Bright Blue Phosphorescence from Cationic Bis-Cyclometalated Iridium(III) Isocyanide Complexes
2012
We report new bis-cyclometalated cationic indium(III) complexes [((CN)-N-boolean AND)(2)Ir(CN-tert-Bu)(2)](CF3SO3) that have tert-butyl isocyanides as neutral auxiliary ligands and 2-phenylpyridine or 2-(4'-fluoropheny1)-R-pyridines (where R is 4-methoxy, 4-tert-butyl, or 5-trifluoromethyl) as (CN)-N-boolean AND ligands. The complexes are white or pale yellow solids that show irreversible reduction and oxidation processes and have a large electrochemical gap of 3.58-3.83 V. They emit blue or bluegreen phosphorescence in liquid/solid solutions from a cyclometalating-ligand-centered excited state. Their emission spectra show vibronic structure with the highest-energy luminescence peak at 440-…

Selective reset of a chain of interacting superconducting qubits
2010
We propose and analyze a scheme for the selective reset of a chain of inductively coupled Josephson flux qubits initially prepared in a multipartite entangled state. The possibility of controlling at will the coupling between two prefixed qubits is exploited to drive a "generalized W state" to a factorized state with only one qubit in the excited state and all the other qubits in their own ground states.
Transient Dynamics of Short Josephson Junctions under the influence of non-Gaussian Noise
2009
We investigate the effects of non-Gaussian white noise source on the transient dynamics of short Josephson junctions. The noise signal is simulated generating standard stable random variables with characteristic function described by Lévy index alpha and asymmetry parameter beta. We study the lifetime of the superconductive state as a function both of the frequency of the external driving bias current and the noise intensity for different values of index alpha. We compare our results with those obtained in the presence of Gaussian white noise. We find the presence of noise induced effects such as resonant activation and noise enhanced stability.
Magnetic field-controlled 0−π transitions and their experimental signatures in superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor junctions
2019
Superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor Josephson junctions are known to exist in the $0$ and $\pi$ states with the transitions between them controlled by the temperature and ferromagnetic interlayer thickness. We demonstrate that these transitions can be controlled also by the external magnetic field directed perpendicular to the layers. By varying the ratio of diffusion coefficients in superconducting and ferromagnetic layers, these field-controlled transitions can be made detectable for arbitrary large value of the exchange energy in the ferromagnet. We also show that the $0$-$\pi$ transitions in the perpendicular field can be observed as the specific features of the flux-flow conducti…
Localizing quantum phase slips in one-dimensional Josephson junction chains
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: New Journal of Physics. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1088/1367-2630/15/9/095014 Open Access We studied quantum phase-slip (QPS) phenomena in long one-dimensional Josephson junction series arrays with tunable Josephson coupling. These chains were fabricated with as many as 2888 junctions, where one sample had a separately tunable link in the middle of the chain. Measurements were made of the zero-bias resistance, R0, as well as current-voltage characteristics (IVC). The finite R0 is explained by QPS and shows an exponential dependence on with a distinct change in the exponent at R 0 = RQ = h/4e2. When R0 > R Q, the…
THE ROLE OF NON-GAUSSIAN SOURCES IN THE TRANSIENT DYNAMICS OF LONG JOSEPHSON JUNCTIONS
2013
We analyze the effects of different non-Gaussian noise sources on the transient dynamics of an overdamped long Josephson junction. We find nonmonotonic behavior of the mean escape time as a function of the noise intensity and frequency of the external driving signal for all the noise sources investigated.
Characterization of PP-cLT Waveguides for Second-Harmonic-Generation and Wavelength-Conversion in the C + L Band of Optical Communications
2010
We report the characterization of single-mode optical waveguides at telecom wavelength, realized in congruent lithium-tantalate. We demonstrate that waveguides realized by proton-exchange show a nonlinear coefficient matching that expected in a bulk crystal.
Infraglottic airway devices and techniques.
2005
Airway management involves far more than just proficiency with tracheal intubation techniques. There are several infraglottic techniques available and the method chosen will depend on the accessibility of equipment, the level of training and expertise, and the patient's specific injury or disease. Endotracheal intubation is most commonly performed by direct laryngoscopy. Several modifications of laryngoscope blades and a variety of adjuncts such as bougies may help to accomplish even a difficult airway. Rigid intubation fibrescopes do improve the view of the larynx, especially in patients with difficult anatomy. They also permit tracheal intubation with less head and cervical spine movement…
