Trasplante de córnea: aspectos bioéticos

2019

Clinical factors affecting endometrial receptiveness in oocyte donation cycles.

2008

Objective To provide a summary of the actual knowledge about the clinical factors affecting the oocyte recipient (other than those associated with uterine cavity abnormalities) on the outcome of oocyte donation cycles. Design Review of the literature. Setting Information regarding the association between age, body mass index (BMI), endometrial priming, tobacco consumption, hydrosalpinx, and endometriosis/adenomyosis in oocyte recipients and the results of oocyte donation cycles. Result(s) Recipient age and the presence of hydrosalpinx are clearly associated with a poorer outcome in oocyte donation cycles. The negative impact of tobacco consumption has recently been confirmed. The exact rele…

Mitochondrial DNA Replacement Techniques to Prevent Human Mitochondrial Diseases.

2021

Background: Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) diseases are a group of maternally inherited genetic disorders caused by a lack of energy production. Currently, mtDNA diseases have a poor prognosis and no known cure. The chance to have unaffected offspring with a genetic link is important for the affected families, and mitochondrial replacement techniques (MRTs) allow them to do so. MRTs consist of transferring the nuclear DNA from an oocyte with pathogenic mtDNA to an enucleated donor oocyte without pathogenic mtDNA. This paper aims to determine the efficacy, associated risks, and main ethical and legal issues related to MRTs. Methods: A bibliographic review was performed on the MEDLINE and Web of S…

Additive effect of factors related to assisted conception on the reduction of maternal serum pregnancy-associated plasma protein A concentrations and…

2013

Objective To analyze whether assisted conceptions need adjustments in first-trimester Down syndrome screening and why modifications in screening markers occur. Design Eleven-year cohort retrospective analysis. Setting Maternal-fetal medicine unit. Patient(s) Two thousand eleven naturally conceived normal singleton pregnancies and 2,042 normal singleton pregnancies achieved with assisted conception: 350 by IUI and 1,692 with IVF (n = 328) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI; n=1,364), using nondonor (n = 1,086) or donated ova (n = 606), with fresh (n = 1,432) or frozen (n = 260) embryos. Long-term outcome after living donor liver transplantation compared to donation after brain death in autoimmune liver diseases: Experience from the E…

2021

Knowledge of living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for autoimmune liver diseases (AILDs) is scarce. This study analyzed survival in LDLT recipients registered in the European Liver Transplant Registry with autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and the non-autoimmune disorder alcohol-related cirrhosis. In total, 29 902 individuals enrolled between 1998 and 2017 were analyzed, including 1003 with LDLT. Survival from >90 days after LDLT for AILDs in adults was 85.5%, 74.2%, and 58.0% after 5, 10, and 15 years. Adjusted for recipient age, sex, and liver transplantation era, adult PSC patients receiving LDLT showed increased mortality compare…

Type of culture media does not affect embryo kinetics: a time-lapse analysis of sibling oocytes

2013

Are the morphokinetics of growing embryos affected by the type of culture media utilized?Morphokinetic parameters used for embryo selection are not affected between the two different concept culture media analyzed.Studies on the effect of culture media on human embryos have focused on evaluating different in-house and commercially available media as well as comparing outcomes among different commercial media. Nonetheless, the evaluation of embryo development in these studies was based on static observations and very little is known from a dynamic point of view.Prospective cohort study, October 2010 and April 2011.University-affiliated infertility center. Binding communication at the service of organ donations

2010

2021

The essay focuses on organ donation as a possible choice for those patients seeking euthanasia or assisted suicide whose informed and free consent has to be carefully preserved. In that case, indeed, concern for the welfare of others, on the one hand, and dying for having relief from illness, on the other hand, could confusedly converge in the will of a vulnerable person receiving medical treatments. The Dutch and the Belgian statutory frameworks governing organ donation after euthanasia can shed light on this such ethical theme involving human dignity that should be ignored by the Italian legislator anymore.

Pure donation or hybrid donation crowdfunding

2019

PurposeDespite the growing research exploring the possibility and feasibility of financing socially oriented projects through crowdfunding, relatively little research examines which crowdfunding model is better to serve such purpose. The purpose of this paper is to offer novel insights to mitigate this research gap.Design/methodology/approachA unique data set collected from the largest Chinese crowdfunding platform is used to test the hypotheses. To solve the perceived self-selection problem, the propensity score matching method is adopted in this paper. Based on this approach, the results of similar prosocial campaigns in two different models (pure donation and hybrid donation) are compare…
