The organic air pollutant cumene hydroperoxide interferes with NOantioxidant role in rehydrating lichen

Organic pollutants effects on lichens have not been addressed. Rehydration is critical for lichens, a burst of free radicals involving NO occurs. Repeated dehydrations with organic pollutants could increase oxidative damage. Our aim is to learn the effects of cumene hydroperoxide (CP) during lichen rehydration using Ramalina farinacea (L.) Ach., its photobiont Trebouxia spp. and Asterochloris erici. Confocal imaging shows intracellular ROS and NO production within myco and phycobionts, being the chloroplast the main source of free radicals. Synthesis and structural characterization of titanium complexes containing a sulfinyl-bridged bis(phenolato) ligand

Abstract Titanium complexes containing the novel tridentate 2,2′-sulfinylbis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenoxo) ligand (sibmp) were synthesized and characterized. Treatment of titanium tetra-iso-propoxide with 2,2′-sulfinylbis(6-tert-4-methylphenol) (sibmpH2) in 1:1 molar ratio afforded red-orange, sparingly soluble di-iso-propoxo derivative [Ti(sibmp)(O-i-Pr)2]2·0.5 Et2O. The single-crystal structure analysis was performed and revealed a dimeric centrosymmetric structure with a planar Ti2O2 core. The titanium center is approximately octahedral with a SO function intramolecularly coordinated at the titanium center. Distinct photodynamics of κ-N and κ-C pseudoisomeric iron(ii) complexes

Two closely related FeII complexes with 2,6-bis(1-ethyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4yl)pyridine and 2,6-bis(1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene)pyridine ligands are presented to gain new insights into the photophysics of bis(tridentate) iron(II) complexes. The [Fe(N^N^N)2]2+ pseudoisomer sensitizes singlet oxygen through a MC state with nanosecond lifetime after MLCT excitation, while the bis(tridentate) [Fe(C^N^C)2]2+ pseudoisomer possesses a similar 3MLCT lifetime as the tris(bidentate) [Fe(C^C)2(N^N)]2+ complexes with four mesoionic carbenes. Alkoxy-, Acyloxy-, and Bromomethylation of Resorcinarenes

Reaction of resorcinarene octols with tris-hydroxymethylmethylamine (TRIS), formaldehyde, and alcohols results in tetraalkoxymethylation of the resorcinol rings. Harsh acylation of aminomethylated resorcinarenes with acid anhydrides leads to the complete acylation of eight hydroxyls and substitution of the amino versus acyloxy groups. Acyloxymethylated resorcinarene 6b can be transformed into a tetrabromomethylated derivative 7 through the reaction with HBr in acetic acid.

Radical salts of TTF derivatives with the metal-metal bonded [Re2Cl8]2- anion

Abstract Four new salts of the radical cations of TMTSF (tetramethyltetraselenafulvalene), TMTTF (tetramethyltetrathiafulvalene), BEDT-TTF (bisethylenedithiotetrathia-fulvalene) (ET) and o-Me2TTF (o-4,4′-dimethyltetrathiafulvalene) with the metal–metal bonded dianion [Re2Cl8]2− were synthesized, and their structures and physical properties investigated. The structures of these semiconducting salts feature one-dimensional stacking of the donor molecules interleaved with [Re2Cl8]2− anions and interstitial solvent molecules.

Antiproliferative activity against leukemia cells of sesquiterpene lactones from the Turkish endemic plant Centaurea drabifolia subsp. detonsa

The apolar organic extract obtained from aerial parts of Centaurea drabifolia Sibth. & Sm. subsp. detonsa (Bornm.) Wagenitz, growing wild in Turkey, was investigated for the first time for its secondary metabolite composition. Seven sesquiterpene lactones belonging to the guaiane class (1-7), including the new compound 4, along with a fatty acid lactone derivative (8), were isolated. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis, including 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques, with the stereostructure of the new guaiane 4 determined with the help of MTPA derivatization. α-(Alkylideneamino)nitriles can be deprotonated under mild conditions. Their conjugated anions react with enones in a 1,4-addition to yield δ-keto-α-(alkylideneamino)nitriles which in turn can be reduced to form pyrrolidines in a one-pot reaction sequence.

The condensation of the azaenolates derived from readily available ketimines with fluorinated nitriles offers an efficient and straightforward entry to new fluorinated 1,3-vinylogous amidines. These versatile compounds, in turn, react with triphosgene to yield new fluorinated pyrimidin-2(1H)-ones in high yields.

Metal-Free and User-Friendly Regioselective Hydroxyfluorination of Olefins

A simple, user-friendly, metal-free protocol for the regioselective anti-Markovnikov hydrofluorination of olefins using readily available and inexpensive reagents has been developed. This new approach displays a broader scope than previously reported methodologies and has been applied to the late-stage fluorination of a complex molecule, giving rise to a fluorosteroid derivative. The stereochemistry of the process has also been studied in some detail.
