Impedance characterization of the electrochemical environment under a polymer film artificially delaminated

2008

International audience; Knowledge of the electrical conductivity of the zone under a delaminated paint film is one necessary input parameter for the simulation of electrochemically driven underpaint corrosion. In this work, a microelectrode array system has been developed, tested, and applied to measure the spatial distribution of resistivity in the delaminated zone along the metal/polymer interface. The experimental device consists of a linear array of six 100 m diameter stainless steel microelectrodes (100 m in diameter) embedded in a steel substrate. A polymer coatingwas applied and an artificial "delaminated zone"was created using the laser-induced decohesion technique. The electrochemi…

Structure and dynamics of water confined in silica hydrogels: X-ray scattering and dielectric spectroscopy studies.

2003

We have used a sol-gel technique to obtain optically transparent hydrogels in which water is confined within a 3D silica matrix. In this work we report X-ray scattering and dielectric spectroscopy measurements on samples having different aging times and compare them with previously obtained results with near-infrared (NIR) absorption spectroscopy. X-ray scattering at room temperature enables to characterize the structure and size of the matrix pores and the non-uniform distribution of water inside the hydrogel. Broad band dielectric spectroscopy in the temperature range 130-280 K enables to study water dynamics. In aged hydrogels two relaxations are clearly evident and show characteristic t…

(Photo)catalyst Characterization Techniques

2019

Abstract This chapter reports on some characterization techniques that are commonly used for catalysts and photocatalysts. Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV–visible (UV–Vis), photoluminescence (PL), and electrochemical characterization techniques are presented with experimental details and actual case studies from literature are discussed. The chapter starts with adsorption phenomena on (photo)catalysis and adsorption isotherms are presented. Then BET analysis technique and its applications in (photo)catalysis are explained. Morphological properties (SEM), functional groups, and the interaction of substrate (…

Study the effects of moisture content on the electrical properties of technical textiles by impedance spectroscopy

2012

Application of metal coatings for the functionalization of technical fibres and fabrics faced with influence of moisture on functional properties, e.g., the impedance of the metal coated K-glass fabrics have strong dependence of content absorbed water or moisture. The paper devoted to develop methodology for characterisation functional materials based on fabrics and model for interpretation of the electrical impedance spectra to obtained functional characteristics of technical textile fabrics. Model based on analyses of 3D plot of imaginary part of complex modulus spectra versus sample mass. Methodology helps to control content of adsorbed water in fabric and influence of moisture on the fu…

Conductimetry and impedance spectroscopy study of low pressure metal organic chemical vapor deposition TiN O films as a function of the growth temper…

2001

Abstract Titanium oxinitride thin films have been grown by low pressure metal organic chemical vapor deposition (LP-MOCVD) using titanium isopropoxide, Ti(OCH(CH 3 ) 2 ) 4 (TIP) and NH 3 precursors in a growth temperature range from 450 to 750°C on sapphire substrates. The electrical behaviour of these films was studied between 400 and 173 K, revealing three different behaviours, ranking from a hopping conductivity (450–500°C) to a conducting one (700–750°C), with a dual behaviour for the intermediate growth temperatures. Moreover, at room temperature, both conductimetry and impedance spectroscopy highlighted a percolation behaviour, interpreted in terms of continuum percolation. The effect…

(La0.8Sr0.2)(Mn1−yFey)O3±δ oxides for ITSOFC cathode materials?

2005

The oxygen transport properties in (La 0.8 Sr 0.2 )(Mn 1-y Fe y )O 3±δ (LSMF) with various iron contents y = 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 and 1 were determined by the IEDP technique. Both oxygen diffusion and surface exchange coefficients were found to be greater for y = 0.8 and 1 than those of LSM (y=0). Moreover, for y ≤0.5, grain boundary diffusion was the rate limiting step especially at lower temperatures. Thus, in the LSMF perovskite materials, the oxygen diffusion via oxygen vacancies is enhanced by Fe. The LSMF electrical performances were measured by impedance spectroscopy. Compared to LSM and LSF (y= 1), porous LSMF cathodes with y= 0.2-0.8 exhibit poor electronic conductivity: Fe, by reducin…

Ion transport in the fragile glass former3KNO3-2Ca(NO3)2

1996

The molten salt ${3\mathrm{K}\mathrm{N}\mathrm{O}}_{3}$-2Ca(${\mathrm{NO}}_{3}$${)}_{2}$ has been studied in the frequency range 5 mHz40 GHz and for temperatures 10 KT500 K using impedance spectroscopy. It is found that in the microwave regime the dynamic conductivity traces the primary response. In the radio- and audio-frequency ranges the mobile ion relaxation becomes increasingly decoupled and the time scale and stretching of the response as determined from electrical modulus spectra differ from those obtained by spectroscopies probing the structural response. For T\ensuremath{\gtrsim}360 K minima are detected in the dielectric loss that make possible a comparison with recent mode-coupli…

Tuning of the Mg Alloy AZ31 Anodizing Process for Biodegradable Implants

2021

Coatings were grown on the AZ31 Mg alloy by a hard anodizing process in the hot glycerol phosphate-containing electrolyte. Anodizing conditions were optimized, maximizing corrosion resistance estimated by impedance measurements carried out in Hank's solution at 37 °C. A post anodizing annealing treatment (350 °C for 24 h) allowed us to further enhance the corrosion resistance of the coatings mainly containing magnesium phosphate according to energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Raman analyses. Gravimetric measurements revealed a hydrogen evolution rate within the limits acceptable for application of AZ31 in biomedical devices. In vitro tests demonstrated that the coatings are biocompati…

Corrosion behaviour of a highly alloyed austenitic alloy UB6 in contaminated phosphoric acid

2013

The influence of temperature (20–80°C) on the electrochemical behaviour of passive films anodically formed on UB6 stainless steel in phosphoric acid solution (5.5 M H3PO4) has been examined by using potentiodynamic curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and Mott-Schottky analysis. UB6 stainless steel in contaminated phosphoric acid is characterised by high interfacial impedance, thereby, illustrating its high corrosion resistance. The obtained results show that the films behave as n-type and p-type semiconductors in the potential range above and below the flat band potential, respectively. This behaviour is assumed to be the consequence of the semiconducting properties of the iron …

Vacuum-Deposited Multication Tin-Lead Perovskite Solar Cells

2020

The use of a combination of tin and lead is the most promising approach to fabricate narrow bandgap metal halide perovskites. This work presents the development of reproducible tin and lead perovskites by vacuum co-deposition of the precursors, a solvent-free technique which can be easily implemented to form complex stacks. Crystallographic and optical characterization reveal the optimal film composition based on cesium and methylammonium monovalent cations. Device optimization makes use of the intrinsically additive nature of vacuum deposition, resulting in solar cells with 8.89% photovoltaic efficiency. The study of the devices by impedance spectroscopy identifies bulk recombination as on…
