The solubilisation behaviour of some dichloroalkanes in aqueous solutions of PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymers: a dynamic light scattering, fluorescenc…

2006

The aggregation behaviour of PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymers in water and in water + chlorinated additive mixtures was studied by means of fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The copolymers were chosen such as to investigate the effects of molecular architecture (L35 and 10R5) and molecular weight by keeping constant the hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance (F88 and F108). 1,2-Dichloroethane was used as a prototype of water basins contaminants. The hydrodynamic radius of the block copolymer aggregates (R(h,M)) and the intensity ratio of pyrene of the first and the third vibrational band (I(1)/I(3)) were determined as a function of…

The crystal structure of 3,5-diisopropyl-4-nitropyrazole from X-ray powder diffraction data

2001

The crystal structure of 3,5-diisopropyl-4-nitropyrazole, 3c, has been determined by a Patterson Search method from laboratory X-ray powder diffraction data. The crystal data are: monoclinic symmetry with the unit-cell parameters aa 19:530O5U; ba 6:485O1U and ca 17:937O3U A; ba 100:32O1U8; space group I2/a ,C 9H15N3O2, Za 8, 293 K. After indexing the powder pattern by two methods, the unit-cell parameters found were refined by a least-squares technique. A whole pattern- fitting program was used to extract the integrated intensities. The structure was solved taking a related compound as a search model and the final Rietveld refinement converged to Rwpa 0.1971 and Rpa 0.1437. The structure pr…

Molecular and crystal structure of Ac-(Z)-ΔAbu-NMe2 and Ac-DL-Abu-NMe2 as compared to those of related molecules

2004

Abstract The molecular and crystal structures of two homologous amino acid derivatives: N-acetyl-α,β-dehydro-butyrine N´,N´-dimethylamide (1) and N-acetyl-DL-butyrine N´,N´-dimethylamide (2), have been determined by X-ray crystallography. Similar solid-state association of both compounds is observed; despite different molecular conformation, they form centrosymmetric dimers linked by the intermolecular N–H…O hydrogen bonds. The conformation of two crystallographically independent molecules of 1 [with torsion angles ϕ, ψ, χ 1 ≈ (–47°, 130°, 3°), respectively] is also characteristic of other related diamides – ΔAla, ΔPhe and ΔLeu – previously studied in the solid state. To analyse whether thi…

Temperature-dependent polymorphism of N-(4-fluorophenyl)-1,5-dimethyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxamide 3-oxide: experimental and theoretical studies on int…

2014

X-ray analysis of N-(4-fluorophenyl)-1,5-dimethyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxamide 3-oxide reveals the temperature-dependent polymorphism associated with the crystallographic symmetry conversion. The observed crystal structure transformation corresponds to a symmetry reduction from I41 /a (I) to P43 (II) space groups. The phase transition mainly concerns the subtle but clearly noticeable reorganization of molecules in the crystal space, with the structure of individual molecules left almost unchanged. The Hirshfeld surface analysis shows that various intermolecular contacts play an important role in the crystal packing, revealing graphically the differences in spatial arrangements of the molecule…

Crystal structure of the tetraaquabis(thiocyanato-kappa N)cobalt(II)-caffeine-water (1/2/4) co-crystal

2017

In the structure of the title compound, [Co(NCS)2(H2O)4]·2C8H10N4O2·4H2O, the cobalt metal lies on an inversion centre and is coordinated in a slightly distorted octahedral geometry. In the crystal, the complex molecules interact with the caffeine molecules through O—H⋯N, O—H⋯O, C–H⋯S hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions.

Hydration dependent dynamics in sol-gel encapsulated myoglobin.

2008

In this work we study the effect of hydration on the dynamics of a protein in confined geometry, i.e. encapsulated in a porous silica matrix. Using elastic neutron scattering we investigate the temperature dependence of the mean square displacements of non-exchangeable hydrogen atoms of sol-gel encapsulated met-myoglobin. The study is extended to samples at 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 g water/g protein fractions and comparison is made with met-myoglobin powders at the same average hydration and with a dry powder sample. Elastic data are analysed using a model of dynamical heterogeneity to take into account deviations of elastic intensity from gaussian behaviour in a large momentum transfer range and r…

Solving the Hydrogen and Lithium Substructure of Poly(triazine imide)/LiCl Using NMR Crystallography

2016

Poly(triazine imide) with incorporated lithium chloride has recently attracted substantial attention due to its photocatalytic activity for water splitting. However, an apparent H/Li disorder prevents the delineation of structure–property relationships, for example, with respect to band-gap tuning. Herein, we show that through a combination of one- and two-dimensional, multinuclear solid-state NMR spectroscopy, chemical modelling, automated electron diffraction tomography, and an analysis based on X-ray pair distribution functions, it is finally possible to resolve the H/Li substructure. In each cavity, one hydrogen atom is bound to a bridging nitrogen atom, while a second one protonates a …

Crystal structure of a new polytype in the V–P–O system: is ω-VOPO4 a dynamically stabilised metastable network?

2001

Abstract ω-VOPO 4 has been prepared by thermal decomposition of different oxovanadium hydrogen phosphates, namely VO(HPO 4 ) n H 2 O ( n =2( α ), 2(β) and 4) and β-NH 4 (VO 2 )(HPO 4 ). The ω-VOPO 4 phase only remains well crystallised at relatively high temperatures. Its crystal structure has been determined ab initio from X-ray powder diffraction data collected at 475°C. The cell is tetragonal (space group P4 2 /mmc) with a =4.8552(3) A and c =8.4301(6) A. Starting positional parameters were obtained by direct methods, and the structure was refined using Rietveld profile refinement principles. Disorder of two oxygen sublattices is observed. To rationalise some features of the crystal stru…

Optical active centres in ZnO samples

2006

Abstract In recent years, there has been a resurgence in the interest in the use of ZnO (Eg ∼ 3.37 eV) as a material for a wide range of opto-emitter applications spanning visible and short wavelengths. Bulk, thin films and nanomaterials obtained using different synthesis methods have been investigated for optoelectronic and biotechnological device applications. Nominally undoped bulk samples typically present a myriad-structured near-band-edge recombination, mainly due to free/bound excitons and donor–acceptor pair transitions. Furthermore, deep level emission due to intrinsic defects and extrinsic impurities, such as transition metal ions, are commonly observed in different grades of bulk…

Protective effect of mesoporous silica particles on encapsulated folates.

2016

Mesoporous silica particles (MSPs) are considered suitable supports to design gated materials for the encapsulation of bioactive molecules. Folates are essential micronutrients which are sensitive to external agents that provoke nutritional deficiencies. Folates encapsulation in MSPs to prevent degradation and to allow their controlled delivery is a promising strategy. Nevertheless, no information exists about the protective effect of MSPs encapsulation to prevent their degradation. In this work, 5-formyltetrahydrofolate (FO) and folic acid (FA) were entrapped in MSPs functionalized with polyamines, which acted as pH-dependent molecular gates. The stability of free and entrapped vitamins af…
