Responsivity measurements of silicon carbide Schottky photodiodes in the UV range

We report on the design and the electro-optical characterization of new classes of 4H-SiC Schottky UV detectors, fabricated employing Ni 2 Si interdigitated strips. We have measured, in dark conditions, the forward and reverse I-V characteristics as a function of temperature and C-V characteristics. Responsivity measurements of the devices, as function of wavelength in the UV range, of package temperature and of applied reverse bias are reported. We also compared devices featuring different strip pitch sizes, discussing their performances, and found the device exhibiting best results.

InAlN underlayer for near ultraviolet InGaN based light emitting diodes

We report on InAlN underlayer (UL) to improve the efficiency of near ultraviolet (NUV) light emitting diodes (LEDs). While InGaN UL is commonly used in high-efficiency blue LEDs it may absorb light for shorter wavelengths. InAlN lattice-matched to GaN exhibits a bandgap of 4.6 eV. This allows alleviating absorption issues in NUV LEDs. We demonstrate that the internal quantum efficiency of 405 nm single InGaN/GaN quantum well LEDs with InAlN UL is similar to 70% compared to less than 10% for LEDs without UL. Excellent I-V characteristics are achieved thanks to polarization charge screening with high doping level at the InAlN/GaN interface. (C) 2019 The Japan Society of Applied Physics

Nanostructured CdO thin films for water treatments

Abstract CdO was the very first transparent conducting metal oxide discovered. CdO thin films show electrical and optical properties of interest as photosensitive anode materials for photochemical cells, phototransistors, photodiodes, window electrodes in liquid crystal displays, IR detectors, antireflection coatings, gas sensors and in other solar energy applications. In the present study we report on the spectroscopic, microscopic, electrical and photo-catalytic properties of CdO thin films prepared by a metal organic chemical vapor method. The degenerate semiconducting CdO thin films are useful as photocatalysts for water treatments.

Evaluation of the Diode laser (810nm,980nm) on dentin tubule diameter following internal bleaching

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of diode laser irradiation and bleaching materials on the dentinal tubule diameter after laser bleaching. Material and Methods: The dentin discs of 40 extracted third molar were used in this experiment. Each disc surface was divided into two halves by grooving. Half of samples were laser bleached at different wavelengths with two different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. Other half of each disc with no laser bleaching remained as a negative control. Highly Homogeneous 2D/3D Heterojunction Diodes by Pulsed Laser Deposition of MoS2 on Ion Implantation Doped 4H-SiC

In this paper, 2D/3D heterojunction diodes have been fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of MoS2 on 4H-SiC(0001) surfaces with different doping levels, i.e., n− epitaxial doping (≈1016 cm−3) and n+ ion implantation doping (>1019 cm−3). Development of a module of stacks of air-breathing microbial fuel cells to light-up a strip of LEDs

Abstract This work focuses on scaling-up of the microbial fuel cells technology according to the principle of miniaturization and multiplication. Seven stacks of 16 mini-MFCs (electrodic area of 0.866 cm2) were built up leading to a big module of 112 MFCs. The electrical connection among the MFCs in the stacks and among the stacks into the modules was optimized in order to implement this technology. Results show that 1 MFC generates 1.22 mW while the optimization of the electric connection in order to achieve the maximum power results in 6.62 mW compared to the theoretical 182 mW, indicating the existence of large energy losses in the system. Electrical Pumping of Potassium Ions Against an External Concentration Gradient in a Biological Ion Channel

We show experimentally and theoretically that significant currents can be obtained with a biological ion channel, the OmpF porin of Escherichia coli, using zero-average potentials as driving forces. The channel rectifying properties can be used to pump potassium ions against an external concentration gradient under asymmetric pH conditions. The results are discussed in terms of the ionic selectivity and rectification ratio of the channel. The physical concepts involved may be applied to separation processes with synthetic nanopores and to bioelectrical phenomena. (C) 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

Differences between panoramic and Cone Beam-CT in the surgical evaluation of lower third molars

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability to identify the contiguity between the root of the mandibular third molar and the mandibular canal (MC) in panoramic radiographs compared with Cone Beam-CT.
