Arrhythmia profiles and heart rates, obtained by 24-hour ECG monitoring, were analysed in 48 patients with hyperthyroidism before (T3 level: 331 +/- 108 ng/100 ml, heart rate: 95 +/- 13/min), during (T3 level: 202 +/- 98 ng/100 ml, heart rate: 85 +/- 11/min) and after (T3 level: 149 +/- 41 ng/100 ml, heart rate: 79 +/- 9/min) antithyroid treatment. 50 persons in whom organic heart disease has been excluded by invasive and noninvasive tests served as controls. Only 6% of patients had repetitive ventricular arrhythmias (Lown group IV) before treatment (controls: 4%; P greater than 0.05). This study aimed to assess an early classification of persistent and long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation patients by means of the time-frequency analysis of the surface ECG, which would allow electrophysiologists to choose the most suitable therapeutic approach to treat this arrhythmia. 140 consecutive unselected patients suffering from atrial fibrillation conformed the study population (84 persistent and 56 long-standing persistent). Arrhythmias consist on electrical alterations in the heart beat control. They can be identified by means of surface ECG leads. The main goal of this work is to provide a signal classification based on ECG signal waveform in the time-frequency domain especially targeted to Ventricular Fibrillation detection. The use of a classifier based on a Boltzmann network is proposed. However, a previous signal preprocessing is also required so that the Boltzmann network is fed with the appropriate data. Physiological parameters measurements in a cardiac cycle via a combo PPG-ECG system

In this paper, we present an innovative way to measure some physiological parameters (such as the pre-ejection period, the pulse transit time, the blood pressure) in a cardiac cycle. A combo PPG-ECG system has been developed and employed to extract both the ECG signal from standard limb leads and simultaneously the photoplethysmography signal from the wrist and the forearm, to calculate the pre-ejection period. This system represents an easy and non-invasive technique to determine these biomedical parameters without using expensive impedance cardiography equipment.

Latvijas Universitātes studente Alise Sika izstrādājusi bakalaura darbu par tematu „Piecgadīgu bērnu uzvedības prasmju pilnveide radošajās rotaļās”. Mūsdienās arvien biežāk uzsvērta bērnu uzvedības problēmu izteikta saasināšanās, bet pārāk maz tiek piedāvātas atbilstošas metodes un pedagoģiskie paņēmieni bērnu uzvedības prasmju pilnveidei. Tādēļ bakalaura darbam izvirzītais mērķis ir pētīt piecgadīgu bērnu uzvedības prasmju pilnveides iespējas radošajās rotaļās. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no divām darba nodaļām.
