<title>Compact multi-functional skin spectrometry set-up</title>
2006
A portable fibre-optic spectrometry set-up has been assembled and tested for applications in skin diffuse reflectance spectrometry, laser fluorescence spectrometry and multi-wavelength reflection photoplethysmography (multi-PPG) studies. The spectrometry set was tested by diffuse reflectance and fluorescence measurements for diagnostics of skin vascular malformations and pigmented diseases such as nevi and melanoma . In addition, studies of microcirculation in blood vessels located at different depths from the skin surface were performed by the multi-PPG method. The results of skin diffuse reflectance and autofluorescence showed differences in spectra of healthy and pathologic skin. The par…
Determination of reflectance spectra model of skin phototypes V
2012
In dermatology, skin is assessed for its response to UV light and is categorised under the Fitzpatrick skin type (FST). The FST is commonly applied as a predictor of skin cancer. The FST classification however is subjective. To enable an objective assessment, a pattern model of skin colour taken from normal subjects is required. In this paper, a model for skin phototype (SPT) V is developed and presented. We conducted an observational study involving 41 participants with FST V. The study analysed the reflectance spectra of facultative skin and constitutive skin which was captured using spectrophotometer and multispectral camera. Using piecewise linear regression, we modelled the reflectance…
Understanding Finnish education: science popularization and scholarly work as intertwined activities
2015
Moving to Finland two years ago had given new push to my work in many ways. I have been studying Hungarian educationfor about thirteen years and I have been addressing the general public with popularizing materials for nearly five years now. However, in Finland these activities become more complex than in my native country. Here, I wish to discuss how my research found larger and larger contexts in two steps: First, by starting to make my research available to wider audiences in Hungary, and second, by turning my focus to an international environment. I claim that these two types of recontextualization are not only beneficial for me as a researcher personally but also serve the researched c…
De la reflexión a la acción: una introducción a la investigación educativa
2014
El documento articula la transición entre los paradigmas de la docencia reflexiva y el uso de la investigación acción educativa, con especial énfasis en el diseño y desarrollo curricular This document describes the transition implied in the development of reflective teaching into educational action research, and places special emphasis on its consequences for curriculum design and development
Kielenoppimista tukeva arviointi
2023
Genealogy of the Ethics of Teacher Self-Evaluation
2022
Quality evaluation (QE) has assumed major importance in governing education. QE is acknowledged as a self-evident and necessary method of improving quality in education across education systems. Along with the quality ‘evaluation wave’, schools and teachers have not only become objects of evaluation, but have also been subjected to increasing demands to self-evaluate. Using genealogical methodology, this chapter analyses the emergence and formation of the politics of school and teacher self-evaluation and also the power and subjectivities invoked through it in the case of Finnish comprehensive education. The research material includes curricular, legislative and education policy texts and n…

Authentic assessment as a support for student teachers’ reflection
2023
Assessment and feedback guide learning. In light of this, the assessment practices of teacher education have received little research. This qualitative study examines student teachers’ discussions in a study unit built on authentic assessment practices: self- and peer assessment of videotapes from authentic performance with research-based rubrics. The aim is to investigate whether authentic assessment supports student teachers’ reflection and, if so, how. The findings show that authentic assessment led students frequently to reflection, and in most cases reflective discussions were induced by students’ self-criticism. We deduced that the encouraging feedback culture between students and bet…
