Exploring Finnish Guidance Counselors’ Conceptions of Career Management Skills

2020

This article reports the findings from a phenomenographic investigation into guidance counselors’ conceptions of career management skills (CMS). The results show that CMS was conceived as (a) information-based knowledge, (b) personal skills development, (c) interpersonal skills development, and (d) autonomous application of skills. The differences appeared along six dimensions of variation that included awareness of CMS, emphasis, promotion of CMS, teaching practice, assessment, and attitude. The findings give us a more profound understanding of critical aspects that may have an important role in the development of individual’s CMS.

Physicochemical stability of carmustine-containing medicinal products after reconstitution and after dilution to ready-to-administer infusion solutio…

2020

Introduction The aim of this study was to determine and compare the physicochemical stability of two carmustine-containing medicinal products licensed and marketed in Europe as Carmustin Obvius (Medac GmbH) and Carmubris (Tillomed Pharma GmbH). Reconstituted stock solutions and diluted ready-to-administer infusion solutions of the two products were investigated. Methods Reconstituted carmustine stock solutions (3.3 mg/mL) and ready-to-administer infusion solutions (0.2 mg/mL, 1.0 mg/mL) prepared in prefilled 5% glucose injection solution PP/PE bags were stored at 22°C or 2–8°C over a maximum period of 66 hours protected from light. Samples were taken immediately after reconstitution or dilu…

Modulating carbohydrate-based hydrogels as viscoelastic lubricant substitute for articular cartilages

2017

Viscosupplementation is a therapeutic approach for osteoarthritis treatment, where the synovial fluid, the natural lubricant of the joints, is replaced by viscoelastic solutions with rheological properties comparable or better than the starting material. This study presents the development of an innovative platform for viscosupplementation, based on the optimization of polysaccharide-based colloidal hydrogel, aiming to reduce on-site enzyme degradation and enhance the possibility of hyaluronic acid substitution with alternative biomaterials. Catanionic vesicles are proposed as physical crosslinker that can guarantee the formation of a 'soft', tunable network, offering a dual-therapeutic app…

Physical Activity Is Related with Cartilage Quality in Women with Knee Osteoarthritis

2017

Purpose To study the relationship between 12-month leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) level and changes in estimated biochemical composition of tibiofemoral cartilage in postmenopausal women with mild knee osteoarthritis (OA). Methods Originally, 87 volunteer postmenopausal women, age 60 to 68 yr, with mild knee OA (Kellgren Lawrence I/II and knee pain) participated in a randomized controlled, 4-month aquatic training trial (RCT), after which 76 completed the 12-month postintervention follow-up period. Self-reported LTPA was collected along the 12-month period using a diary from which MET task hours per month were calculated. Participants were divided into MET task hour tertiles: 1, lowe…

Bile acid-derived mono- and diketals—synthesis, structural characterization and self-assembling properties

2010

Three oxo-derivatives of bile acid methyl esters have been used as starting compounds in the preparation of novel bile acid monoketals with 1,2-benzenediol (catechol) and 2,3-naphthalenediol, as well as mono- and diketals with pentaerythritol. Monoketals of pentaerythritol showed a tendency to form thermoreversible gels in many aromatic solvents and the methyl lithocholate derivative proved to be a supergelator able to form a gel with t-butylbenzene at a concentration as low as 0.5% w/v. Whereas the naphthalenediol ketals formed film-type materials in the studied solvents, the catechol ketals underwent rapid crystallization into X-ray quality single crystals. Single crystal X-ray structures…

Cation binding resorcinarene bis-crowns: the effect of lower rim alkyl chain length on crystal packing and solid lipid nanoparticles

2012

A group of seven resorcinarene bis-crown ethers (CNBC5) with two polyether bridges at the upper rim and either propyl, butyl, pentyl, heptyl, nonyl, decyl or undecyl groups at the lower rim were synthesized and their binding properties with Cs+ were investigated by NMR titration. The bis-crowns form 1:2 complexes with Cs+ with binding constants of logK 4–5. Crystal structures of bis-crowns and their Cs+ and K+ complexes were studied and different packing motifs were found depending on the alkyl chain length. Short ethyl, propyl and butyl alkyl chains gave a layer or pillar packing where the polar and non-polar regions cannot be distinguished, whereas longer pentyl and decyl chains formed bi…

Recensione a: C. Giurintano, Riformismo e liberalismo in Augustin Cochin (1823-1872), Firenze, Centro Editoriale Toscano, 2007

2009

Data from: The strategic reference gene: an organismal theory of inclusive fitness

2019

How to define and use the concept of inclusive fitness is a contentious topic in evolutionary theory. Inclusive fitness can be used to calculate selection on a focal gene, but it is also applied to whole organisms. Individuals are then predicted to appear designed as if to maximise their inclusive fitness, provided that certain conditions are met (formally when interactions between individuals are ‘additive’). Here we argue that applying the concept of inclusive fitness to organisms is justified under far broader conditions than previously shown, but only if it is appropriately defined. Specifically, we propose that organisms should maximise the sum of their offspring (including any accrued…

Biocompatible hydrogels based on hyaluronic acid cross-linked with a polyaspartamide derivative as delivery systems for epithelial limbal cells.

2011

The aim of this work was to evaluate the potential use of hydrogels based on hyaluronic acid (HA) chemically cross-linked with α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl) (2-aminoethylcarbamate)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA-EDA) as substitutes for the amniotic membrane able to release limbal cells for corneal regeneration. Hydrogels, shaped as films, with three different molar ratios (X) between PHEA-EDA and HA (X = 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5) have been investigated. First, it has been evaluated their swelling ability, hydrolytic resistance in simulated physiological fluid and cell compatibility by using human dermal fibroblasts chosen as a model cell line. Then adhesion studies in comparison with collagen gel, have been pe…

Synthesis, spectroscopic studies and biological evaluation of acridine derivatives: The role of aggregation on the photodynamic efficiency.

2018

Two new photoactive compounds (1 and 2) derived from the 9-amidoacridine chromophore have been synthesized and fully characterized. Their abilities to produce singlet oxygen upon irradiation have been compared. The synthesized compounds show very different self-aggregating properties since only 1 present a strong tendency to aggregate in water. Biological assays were conducted with two cell types: hepatoma cells (Hep3B) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Photodynamic therapy (PDT) studies carried out with Hep3B cells showed that non-aggregating compound 2 showed photoxicity, ascribed to the production of singlet oxygen, being aggregating compound 1 photochemically inactive.…
