Ficción y compromiso ontológico
2014
In this paper I am concerned with a variant of Kripke´s abstractist theory of fiction, namely, the semantic theory according to which proper names and …
Conceptual study of a heavy-ion-ERDA spectrometer for energies below 6 MeV
2017
Abstract Elastic recoil detection analysis (ERDA) is a well established technique and it offers unique capabilities in thin film analysis. Simultaneous detection and depth profiling of all elements, including hydrogen, is possible only with time-of-flight ERDA. Bragg ionization chambers or Δ E - E detectors can also be used to identify the recoiling element if sufficiently high energies are used. The chief limitations of time-of-flight ERDA are the beam induced sample damage and the requirement of a relatively large accelerator. In this paper we propose a detector setup, which could be used with 3 MeV to 6 MeV medium heavy beams from either a single ended accelerator (40Ar) or from a tandem…
Oxy-nitrides characterization with a new ERD-TOF system
2017
Abstract A new time-of-flight (TOF) camera was installed on Elastic Recoil Detection (ERD) measurement setup on the Tandem Accelerator at Universite de Montreal. The camera consists of two timing detectors, developed and built by the Jyvaskyla group, that use a thin carbon foil and microchannel plates (MCP) to produce the start and stop signals. The position of the first detector is fixed at 18 cm from the target, while the position of the second detector can be varied between 50 and 90 cm from the first detector. This allows to increase time resolution by increasing the distance between the time-of-flight detectors or to increase solid angle by decreasing the distance. Moving the detector …
Characterization of two groups of Spodoptera exigua Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) C-type lectins and insights into their role in defense against th…
2018
Insect innate immunity relies on numerous soluble and membrane-bound receptors, named pattern recognition proteins (PRPs), which enable the insect to recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns. C-type lectins are among the best-studied PRPs and constitute the most diverse family of animal lectins. Here we have characterized two groups of Spodoptera exigua C-type lectins that differ in their phylogeny, domain architecture, and expression pattern. One group includes C-type lectins with similar characteristics to other lepidopteran lectins, and a second group includes bracoviral-related lectins (bracovirus-like lectins, Se-BLLs) recently acquired by horizontal gene transfer. Subsequently…
RNA interference in Lepidoptera: an overview of successful and unsuccessful studies and implications for experimental design.
2011
International audience; Gene silencing through RNA interference (RNAi) has revolutionized the study of gene function, particularly in non-model insects. However, in Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) RNAi has many times proven to be difficult to achieve. Most of the negative results have been anecdotal and the positive experiments have not been collected in such a way that they are possible to analyze. In this review, we have collected detailed data from more than 150 experiments including all to date published and many unpublished experiments. Despite a large variation in the data, trends that are found are that RNAi is particularly successful in the family Saturniidae and in genes involv…
Prevalence of Age-Related Macular Degeneration in Europe
2017
Manuscript no. 2016-1147 Supplemental material is available at www.aaojournal.org/; International audience; Purpose: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a frequent, complex disorder in elderly of European ancestry. Risk profiles and treatment options have changed considerably over the years, which may have affected disease prevalence and outcome. We determined the prevalence of early and late AMD in Europe from 1990 to 2013 using the European Eye Epidemiology (E3) consortium, and made projections for the future. Design: Meta-analysis of prevalence data. Participants: A total of 42 080 individuals 40 years of age and older participating in 14 population-based cohor…
Example Markers at the Intersection of Grammaticalization and Lexicalization
2020
Givon’s words “today’s morphology is yesterday’s syntax” have been widely used to describe grammaticalization, a process of linguistic change which implies an increase in the grammatical status of ...

2021
This paper analyses some jurisprudential novelties about the economic imbalance that give the right to receive the compensatory allowance in case of separation or divorce.
