À la recherche du Paradis Perdu. L’exil dans "Étoile errante" de J.M.G. Le Clézio

2017

J. M. G. Le Clézio, the author of the novel Wandering Star fitting into the sociopolitical context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, presents the story of two girls Esther and Nejma. Their life reflect the history of two nations: the Jews and the Palestinians. Sentenced to be exiled as a consequence of the war, they embark on a spiritual journey in time and space, in order to return to Paradise Lost. By becoming the witness of the enemy’s ruthlessness, unimaginable cruelty, they discover the importance of religion. It’s the way that they figure out who they are. The religion gives them a sense of security, hope and perseverance, by which, in the end, they return to the Promised Land. So …

Locking Reconstruction Double Plating of Distal Humeral Fractures: How Many Screws in the Distal Ulnar Column Segment in A3 Fracture Provide Superior…

2009

Objectives: Two 90-degree configurations of locking reconstruction plates with different numbers of screws in the distal ulnar column segment of distal extra-articular humeral fractures with metaphyseal comminution (A3) were biomechanically investigated. Methods: Eight pairs of fresh-frozen human humeri were used. For paired comparison, the humeri were divided into 2 randomized groups. In both groups, double-plate osteosyntheses with locking reconstruction plates were performed in 90-degree configurations. In group 1, the posteriorly placed radial column plate exceeded the capitellum and the ulnar column plate extended into the ulnar sulcus. The ulnar plate was molded around the medial epic…

Journalism and fake news in the Covid-19 era. Perspectives for media education in Italy

2020

In this article, drawing from the data collected by the AGCOM during the pandemic crisis, we argue that the emergence of COVID 19 has made more evident the new relationships between the informative cybercascades, the significant need of news during a crisis, the presence of disinformation online, and the relevant consequences on collective narrations, often producing a generalized panic. We also argue that infotainment can be considered a critical turning point in the relationship between true and false in the news because of its fusion of facts, drama, and emotional narrative frames so that it is no longer possible to separate reality from media reconstruction of it. We finally argue that …

The Jewish doctors involved in the development of health resorts in eastern Galicia at the late 19th and early 20th century (Central and Eastern Euro…

2018

Summary Background The involvement of Jewish doctors and scientists in the development of health resorts in eastern Galicia (part of the Austrian monarchy after 1772, and since 1918 as part of independent Poland, now part of Ukraine) is unquestionable; however, awareness of this fact is not that common. Meanwhile, also due to their work and activity, small borderland resorts became important medical, cultural and social centers of the region. The involvement of Jewish doctors in the development of Galician health resorts resulted from, among others, the rich and multi-layered tradition and integration of Judaism with the hygiene regulations and moral principles of the religion. The eastern …

Działalność Zagranicznego Komitetu Odbudowy Zamku Królewskiego w Warszawie (1967–1972)

2018

Zdecydowana większość emigracyjnych elit politycznych zajęła negatywne stanowisko w sprawie zbiórki pieniędzy na restytucję Zamku Królewskiego w Warszawie. W 1. połowie lat 70. XX w. na całym świecie działało jednak kilkadziesiąt komitetów i organizacji polonijnych wspierających ową inicjatywę, najwięcej w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Australii, we Francji i w Kanadzie.

The compendium of self-enactable techniques to change and self-manage motivation and behaviour v.1.0.

2019

Behaviour change techniques describe the content of behaviour change interventions, but do not adequately account for the actions that people must themselves undertake to successfully change or self-manage motivation or behaviour. This paper describes the development of a compendium of self-enactable techniques, combining behaviour- and motivation-regulation techniques across six existing classifications of behaviour change techniques and three scoping reviews. The compendium includes 123 techniques, each of which is labelled, defined and presented with instructive examples to facilitate self-enactment. Qualitative feedback was gathered from intervention developers and the general public to…

The effect of culture on requirements: a value-based view of prioritization

2015

This paper examines how culture affects requirements and their prioritization. We analyze the requirements of a mobile service, which were collected from Helsinki, Hong Kong, and Las Vegas. We argue that the current prioritization techniques for requirements do not sufficiently account for the cultural effects, nor does the literature offer information on ways of prioritizing such requirements according to users’ values. We see this as problematic because the literature suggests that culture should be viewed as a set of values. Our findings support the argument that we should use a value-based approach in prioritizing requirements. Furthermore, by focusing on the links between needs and val…

A View from the Inside: The Dawning Of De-Westernization of CEE Media and Communication Research?

2015

The Editorial outlines some characteristics of the development of the Central and Eastern European (CEE) media and communication scholarship during the past 25 years. In the majority of CEE countries, the media and communication research was re-established after the collapse of communism. Since then, a critical mass of active scholars has appeared who form an integral part of the larger European academia. A gradual integration of East and West perspectives in media and communication research is taking place along with moving away from the barely West-centred approach, and utilizing the research done by CEE scholars. Certain 'de-westernization' and internationalization of the research in ter…

Mapping Leisure across Borders

2013

Leisure has become an important domain in sociological research. While time is often spent in daily “pressing” activities, leisure time, in its multifaceted aspects, is rather oriented to convey new answers for individual and collective needs. Such answers are an important field for leisure studies as well as for the sociological questions connected with leisure. For instance, in developed countries, some of these answers concern the ways in which leisure may be spent in “the best way possible for me”, or “for my family”, or “for me with my friends”, hence focusing on it as a new basic human need/desire oriented to foster self-fulfillment. However, this idea of leisure as self-fulfillment m…
