Pēdējo gadu desmitu laikā plašā lasīšana ir guvusi atbalstu un atzinību otrās valodas un svešvalodu apguves pedagoģijā. Daudzi raksti parāda plašās lasīšanas priekšrocības angļu valodas prasmju uzlabošanā. Lai gan plašā lasīšana ir guvusi atzinību tiek praktizēta daudzās valstīs, Latvijā tā joprojām tiek maz izmantota. Šī diplomdarba mērķis ir parādīt plašās lasīšanas priekšrocības un to, cik efektīvi tā var uzlabot izglītojamo svešvalodu prasmi. Plašās lasīšanas pētījums parāda, ka tas ne tikai efektīvi attīsta izglītojamo lasītprasmi, bet arī uzlabo citas valodas prasmes. Diplomdarbā ir iztirzāts valsts eksāmena 12. klasēm angļu valodā lasīšanas daļas tekstu autentiskums. Pētījuma mērķis ir izpētīt lasīšanas daļas tekstus un apkopot pierādījumus gan situatīvajam autentiskumam, gan interaktīvajam autentiskumam. Tēmas aktualitāti nosaka tas fakts, ka autentiskums ir viena no svarīgākajām komunikatīvo valodas pārbaudes darbu īpatnībām. Diplomdarba mērķis ir izpētīt, kādi spēļošanas elementi var palīdzēt attīstīt skolēnu pašvadītas mācīšanās prasmes 5. klases angļu valodas stundās, jo pašvadītas mācīšanās prasmes ir nozīmīgas skolēnu turpmākajai dzīvei. Turklāt iepriekšējā pētījumā autore atklāja, ka spēļošana ir efektīvs līdzeklis, lai saglabātu skolēnu interesi un motivāciju. Kā pētījuma metode tika izvēlēta gadījuma izpēte. Datu vākšanas metodes ietvēra anketu, autores pašnovērtējumu un angļu valodas stundu refleksijas, kā arī skolēnu atsauksmes. An important element in current historical research is the analysis of diplomatic relations focusing on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. They show the history of the Polish-Lithuanian state, its internal and foreign policy from a different historical perspective. In 1700, the Great Northern War broke out and changed the political power system in Central and Eastern Europe for the next decades. Diplomats from foreign courts were interested in this war, including Philippe Plantamour, secretary of the British embassy in Berlin. The grammaticalization and pragmaticalization of cleft constructions in Present-Day English

The present paper examines the development of the variation between a marked and an unmarked infinitival complement clause in three types of cleft constructions in 20th century English. Data from corpora of written and spoken British (BrE) and American English (AmE) evidence a significantly divergent development of these clefts types in speaking when compared to writing. The written corpora show a steady increase in the frequency of clefts, and a decrease of the to-infinitive paired with an increase of the bare infinitive, thus a reversal of preferences in both varieties in all three types of clefts. We perform a large scale analysis of a list of fintech terms in (i) news and blogs in English language and (ii) professional descriptions of companies operating in many countries. The occurrence and co-occurrence of fintech terms and locutions shows a progressive evolution of the list of fintech terms in a compact and coherent set of terms used worldwide to describe fintech business activities. This paper aims to give an outline of the development of the term “Lingua Franca”. Initially the proper name of an extinct pidgin, to “Lingua Franca”, the term has become a common noun, used with regard to language contact phenomena in general – at first specifically for pidgins and trade languages, but now for all vehicular languages. This broader usage is especially prominent in the field of research known as “English as a lingua franca” (ELF). The article presents a portrait of Joseph Conrad-Korzeniowski, an English writer with a Polish soul. Conrad—the last Polish Romantic—did not only manage to introduce Polish dreams and longings into English (and Western) literature, but also transformed the Polish experience into a universal one. Writing about exotic, faraway places, he disseminated myths concerning Polish national identity, chivalric tradition and the Polish Eastern Borderland atmosphere and ethos. Conrad, a very demanding writer, never presents ready-made answers, nor does he offer simple solutions to the problems of his protagonists.
