Lymphoscintigraphy with peritumoral injection versus lymphoscintigraphy with subdermal periareolar injection of technetium-labeled human albumin to i…
2014
Background Preoperative lymphoscintigraphy is without doubt a valid method for the detection of the sentinel lymph node (SLN). There has been considerable debate regarding the optimal site for the introduction of the tracer; various sites include peritumoral (PT), periareolar (PA), subdermal, and intradermal injection. Purpose To evaluate retrospectively the lymphoscintigraphic identification rate of peritumoral (PT) injection versus subdermal periareolar (PA) injection in the detection of SLNs in breast cancer. Material and Methods Between October 2002 and December 2011, a cohort of 906 consecutive patients with biopsy proven breast cancer underwent 914 SLN biopsy procedures. A total of 33…
Statistical methods for the comparison of measurements derived from orthodontic imaging
2000
Biometric comparison procedures for dental imaging methods with continuous outcome were reviewed, mainly concentrating on assessment and comparison of accuracy and precision according to the study design. Univariate graphical and numerical representations of corresponding deviations were summarized to derive a 'check list' of minimum information necessary to compare the measurement methods. The methods reviewed in this investigation are illustrated by the comparison of conventional (radiographic) cephalometry versus assessment using the DigiGraph in 50 female children. A paired t-test and the corresponding confidence interval approach were used to assess deviations in location of two imagin…
Materials and methods of signal enhancement for spectroscopic whole blood analysis: Novel research overview
2017
Abstract The early diagnosis of diseases is crucial for reducing morbidity and mortality and also for improving the quality of treatment process. Among various biological samples used to follow up the concentrations of disease markers, whole blood sensing can efficiently decrease analysis time by means of introducing methods with no pretreatment. In addition, the direct detection of markers in whole blood facilitates testing procedure and minimize the possibility of the loss of analytes in the process. Therefore, the assay of unprocessed whole blood is becoming increasingly important in clinical diagnostics and biomedical research. Incorporation of new advanced materials plays a major role …
Automatic Myocardial Infarction Evaluation from Delayed-Enhancement Cardiac MRI Using Deep Convolutional Networks
2021
In this paper, we propose a new deep learning framework for an automatic myocardial infarction evaluation from clinical information and delayed enhancement-MRI (DE-MRI). The proposed framework addresses two tasks. The first task is automatic detection of myocardial contours, the infarcted area, the no-reflow area, and the left ventricular cavity from a short-axis DE-MRI series. It employs two segmentation neural networks. The first network is used to segment the anatomical structures such as the myocardium and left ventricular cavity. The second network is used to segment the pathological areas such as myocardial infarction, myocardial no-reflow, and normal myocardial region. The segmented …
Evaluation of Disaggregation Methods for Downscaling MODIS Land Surface Temperature to Landsat Spatial Resolution in Barrax Test Site
2016
Thermal infrared (TIR) data are usually acquired at a coarser spatial resolution (CR) than visible and near infrared (VNIR). Several disaggregation methods have been recently developed to enhance the TIR spatial resolution using VNIR data. These approaches are based on the retrieval of a relation between TIR and VNIR data at CR, or training of a neural network, to be applied at the fine resolution afterward. In this work, different disaggregation methods are applied to the combination of two different sensors in the experimental test site of Barrax, Spain. The main objective is to test the feasibility of these techniques when applied to satellites provided with no TIR bands. Landsat and mod…
Ozone and autologous therapies [abstract]
2019
PURPOSE: One of the proven effects of Ozone Therapy, is the releasing of Growth Factors from Platelets. Some other therapies can have similar effects. Autologous Therapies can be defined as “The therapy that is done by transferring cells, tissues, body liquids originating from the recipient rather than from donor.” The purpose of this presentation is to give information on those therapies.

DISCUSSION: There are several therapies in this group, such as Stem Cell Therapies, Dentric Cell Vaccine Therapy, Autologous immune enhancement therapy, etc. But most of them are so difficult that we can not practise at office conditions where some therapies can be done at small clinic and pr…
LogDet divergence-based metric learning with triplet constraints and its applications.
2014
How to select and weigh features has always been a difficult problem in many image processing and pattern recognition applications. A data-dependent distance measure can address this problem to a certain extent, and therefore an accurate and efficient metric learning becomes necessary. In this paper, we propose a LogDet divergence-based metric learning with triplet constraints (LDMLT) approach, which can learn Mahalanobis distance metric accurately and efficiently. First of all, we demonstrate the good properties of triplet constraints and apply it in LogDet divergence-based metric learning model. Then, to deal with high-dimensional data, we apply a compressed representation method to learn…
Generation of lentivirus vectors using recombinant baculoviruses
2008
In spite of advances in conventional four-plasmid transient transfection methods and development of inducible stable production cell lines, production of replication-defective lentiviral vectors in clinical scale has been challenging. Baculovirus technology offers an alternative to scalable virus production as a result of fast and easy production of baculoviruses, efficient transduction of mammalian cells and safety of the baculoviruses. As a first step toward scalable lentiviral production system, we have constructed four recombinant baculoviruses: the BAC-transfer virus expresses green fluorescent protein (GFP) as a transgene and BAC-gag-pol, BAC-vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein G …
Blood Flow and Tissue Oxygenation of Human Tumors: An Update
1992
It is generally accepted that tumor microcirculation, blood flow, oxygen and nutrient supply, tissue pH distribution, and the bioenergetic status (factors which are usually closely linked and which define the so-called cellular microenvironment) can markedly influence the therapeutic response of malignant tumors. Tumor blood flow is the major determinant for intra-tumor pharmacokinetics and (through modulation of the cellular microenvironment) of pharmacody-namics. The oxygen supply greatly determines the radiosensitivity of the tumors to be treated. The oxygen enhancement ratio, i.e., the ratio of doses with and without oxygen to produce the same biological effect is 2.7 to 3.0. O2 partial…
