Are we who we cite? : on epistemological injustices, citing practices, and #metoo in academia

The #metoo movement reaching academia and Applied Linguistics creates a need for discussion on how we as scholars react to oppressive ideologies and behaviors in our community. However, this is not merely a question of processing cases of sexual harassment and assault. More deeply, we need conversations on who we do and do not know, read, and cite, and how to make our field more epistemologically equitable. Practices of Writing in Ethnographic Work

Although the practice of writing is key to the production of ethnographic knowledge, the topic remains understudied. Using material from our own ethnographic research in the fields of air travel and cultural heritage as data, we develop a reflexive account of ethnographic writing. We examine in detail the practices of jotting down observations, writing field notes, analytic annotating, ordering and rearranging, and drafting and revising papers. The article takes a praxeological stance, conceptualizing writing as a practice that is simultaneously cognitive, embodied, and material. Pasan, pues, a primer plano las características cognitivas del estudiante como punto de partida y como resultado de aprendizaje. El presente trabajo analiza las creencias epistemológicas y el sistema de valores de 760 estudiantes de la Universitat de València desde un enfoque descriptivo. Para ello, se utilizó el cuestionario EBS (Wood y Kardash, 2002) y el Cuestionario de Valores (Schwartz, 1992). En este trabajo analizamos las dificultades conceptuales y epistemológicas que tienen sobre termoquímica estudiantes universitarios de los últimos cursos de Física, Química e Ingeniería Química. Para ello se han aplicado a una muestra de 35 de estos futuros profesores dos cuestionarios sobre efectos térmicos en fenómenos físicos y químicos que han de explicar y se han categorizado sus respuestas según los razonamientos usados.
