Upper limits on the isotropic gravitational-wave background from Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo's third observing run

We report results of a search for an isotropic gravitational-wave background (GWB) using data from Advanced LIGO's and Advanced Virgo's third observing run (O3) combined with upper limits from the earlier O1 and O2 runs. Unlike in previous observing runs in the advanced detector era, we include Virgo in the search for the GWB. The results are consistent with uncorrelated noise, and therefore we place upper limits on the strength of the GWB. We find that the dimensionless energy density $\Omega_{\rm GW}\leq 5.8\times 10^{-9}$ at the 95% credible level for a flat (frequency-independent) GWB, using a prior which is uniform in the log of the strength of the GWB, with 99% of the sensitivity comi…

The main aim of this paper is to consider from different points of view the thesis of a conservative character of Peirce’s thought. The paper consists of two parts. In the first part, arguments for Peirce’s conservatism are presented. They are of two kinds: inner ones (Peirce’s own declarations) and outer ones (a comparison of Peirce’s view o the views of two other classical pragmatists: James and Dewey). This paper introduces two general models for computing centiles when the response variable Y can take values between 0 and 1, inclusive of 0 or 1. The models developed are more flexible alternatives to the beta inflated distribution. The first proposed model employs a flexible four parameter logit skew Student t (logitSST) distribution to model the response variable Y on the unit interval (0, 1), excluding 0 and 1. The Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire for Children (DEBQ-C; van Strien & Oosterveld, 2008) was developed to assess external eating (EXT), emotional eating (EMO), and restriction (RES) in 7- to 12-years-old. The aim of this study was to compare children and parents' views of children's eating behaviour according to children's weight status in a sample of French participants. Il ripensamento della società contemporanea passa attraverso un nuovo umanesimo in cui “facendo arte” insieme gli individui si riconoscono come comunità sulla base di principi e valori condivisi. Mettendo a fuoco un concetto di arte inteso come esperienza (J. Dewey) e come cura, in linea con le teorie dell’Everyday Aesthetics e con la teoria dell’“artification” dell’etologa Ellen Dissanayake, il lavoro si propone di tracciare alcune linee interpretative che, a partire dalle criticità emerse con l’emergenza sanitaria del coronavirus, valorizzino l’arte come strategia per fare comunità.

Después de analizar la filosofía de Dewey en el contexto de la contracultura de los años sesenta, el artículo resume y organiza la filosofía de Dewey en torno a los conceptos de crecimiento, experiencia, educación, democracia y ocupaciones.
