Dominating Clasp of the Financial Sector Revealed by Partial Correlation Analysis of the Stock Market

2010

What are the dominant stocks which drive the correlations present among stocks traded in a stock market? Can a correlation analysis provide an answer to this question? In the past, correlation based networks have been proposed as a tool to uncover the underlying backbone of the market. Correlation based networks represent the stocks and their relationships, which are then investigated using different network theory methodologies. Here we introduce a new concept to tackle the above question--the partial correlation network. Partial correlation is a measure of how the correlation between two variables, e.g., stock returns, is affected by a third variable. By using it we define a proxy of stoc…

Low-cost materials for boron adsorption from water

2012

[EN] Knowing the affinity of boron aqueous species for cis-diol organic groups, five different hybrid materials have been prepared by anchoring glucose groups onto the surface of silica matrices with a different surface topology: UVM-7 bimodal mesoporous silica, UVM-11 unimodal non-templated mesoporous silica, commercial silica fume and two silica xerogels with pores within the mesoporous range (13-50 nm). After optimizing the experimental conditions, a comparison was made of the boron adsorption capacities in water. The relationship of the structural and functionalization parameters is discussed and the importance of the surface topology in the final adsorption behaviour is revealed. Hence…

Hydrogen Supplied Wireless Charging System for Electric Vehicles

2020

The aim of this work is the experimental characterization of a Wireless Charging System based on IPT (Inductive Power Transfer) supplied by a PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) in order to verify the possibility of its installation in not electrified areas. A hydrogen-based supply system is designed and assembled with the purpose of having an EV (electrical vehicle) charging station not connected to the main power grid. An efficiency analysis of the wireless transmission system is carried out taking into account external parameters such as distance and misalignment between the transmitter coil and the receiver coil, verifying the integration potentialities of both IPT and fuel cell …

Calculating the regional economic impact of the olympic games

2004

This study introduces a methodological concept to combine the cost‐benefit analysis and input‐output models to create a new method to regionalize Olympic costs and benefits in order to define the economic impact at the regional level. This new form of analysis is used to calculate the regional economic impact of the Frankfurt Rhein/Main region, which bid to stage the 2012 Olympics. A generalised view of the Frankfurt case study shows patterns that are valid for all impact studies of major sport events. Finally a sensitivity analysis is used to determine critical variables.

Bronchoalveolar Lavage and Oleic Acid-Injection in Pigs as a Double-Hit Model for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).

2020

The treatment of ARDS continues to pose major challenges for intensive care physicians in the 21st century with mortality rates still reaching up to 50% in severe cases. Further research efforts are needed to better understand the complex pathophysiology of this disease. There are different well-established animal models to induce acute lung injury but none has been able to adequately mimic the complex pathomechanisms of ARDS. The most crucial factor for the development of this condition is the damage to the alveolar capillary unit. The combination of two well-established lung injury models allow us to mimic in more detail the underlying pathomechanism. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) leads to…

The Phenomenon of Social Enterprise in Austria: A Triangulated Descriptive Study

2011

Abstract There is little to no existing research on the phenomenon of social enterprises (SEs) in Austria. To enable subsequent comparative studies, the author first traces social enterprises' conceptual underpinnings from most current research found in leading journals and subsequently creates a framework based upon social origins theory for use on Austria's social enterprises. In order to validate the findings, the author employs a triangulated research approach, including an online-based survey, semi-structured interviews and two panel discussions. Social enterprises in Austria are characterized through social activities, organizational types, legal forms, the society sector, the outcome…

Respiratory gas exchange in the rat spleen in situ and intrasplenic oxyhemoglobin saturation.

1979

Measurements of splenic respiratory gas exchange and of HbO2 saturations in the red pulp of the rat spleen have shown that there are no indications of a reduced intrasplenic O2 availability during normoxia. The present studies provide evidence that, in the normal spleen, the intrasplenic sequestration of red blood cells cannot be explained by an O2 deficiency in the red pulp since the commonly accepted notion of an intrasplenic hypoxia is not true.

Molte Palermo. Temi

2019

In the theme of unfinished ideas of possible cities will recognize the connotative paradigm of the evolution of Palermo will be recognised along a thousand year path of transformational processes none of which was completed by virtue of the distinctive value of exemplum that does not require additional and conclusive demonstrations. The course of history has moreover imposed on Palermo a cyclical recurrence of broken destinies. This was evidence of the invention of the capital city that of the “geometric square and the cross roads” superimposed on the archetypal underpinning of Pan-ormos as a place of exchange. And incompleteness will be the hallmark of the city of the nineteenth century straight roads heading towards undefined destinations the symptomatic expression of the idea of a preordained effect of suspension. Similarly unfinished will be the Palermo of the redevelopment plans in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries upto the shapeless development of the contemporary city and the new arterial routes (the Circonvallazione) manifestations of further “Palermo as abstraction” ever more distant from “Palermo as places”. A city ultimately characterized by continuous metamorphoses replacement of values absorptions oblivion and cultural desecration. From this distance one can indeed observe Palermo from a marginal and peripherical point of view as regards its urban limits opening up a different prospect penetrating and maybe even superior able to understand facts and phenomena in depth.Settore ICAR/14 - Composizione Architettonica E Urbana
