Influence of dissolved humic material and ionic strength on C8 extraction of pesticides from water
1995
A mixture of twelve intermediate polarity pesticides, mostly carbamate-type, have been chromatographied on an octadecyl-silica bonded-phase column using acetonitrile-water gradient mobile phase and UV detection. Pesticides were extracted from aqueous matrix by solid-phase extraction. The extraction system consisted of a glass microcolumn containing octyl-silica solidphase conditioned with methanol and water. The elution was by acetonitrile-dichloromethane (50:50). Studies of extraction factors like volume of sample, addition of 10% sodium chloride and presence of dissolved humic material are investigated.
Extraction of short peptides using supported liquid membranes
2002
Studies of extraction of short peptides using supported liquid membranes containing Aliquat 336 as a carrier are presented. The extractions are carried out from an aqueous donor phase with pH ≥ 10 to an acceptor phase containing salt. The mass transfer is driven by the gradient of salt concentration between these phases. The extraction efficiency is dependent on the composition of water phases, the type and concentration of counter-ion in the stagnant acceptor phase and the flow rate of the donor phase. Moreover, it is also influenced by the concentration and structure of the examined peptides.
Water-soluble polysaccharides from Opuntia stricta Haw. fruit peels: Recovery, identification and evaluation of their antioxidant activities
2015
Abstract Opuntia stricta Haw. is considered as one of the most common cactus plant growing in Tunisia. Extracting valuable compounds from its fruit peel, considered as by-product, is drawing more and more attention, making it on the verge of commercialization. Water-soluble polysaccharides were extracted from Opuntia stricta Haw. peels, and their chemical composition assessed using thin layer chromatography. The antioxidant activities of the extracted polysaccharides were assessed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity, total antioxidant activity and reducing power capacity. The extraction yield of water-soluble polysaccharides was 7.53±0.86%. The chemical comp…
Uranyl(VI) complexes with a diaminobisphenol from eugenol and N-(2-aminoethyl)morpholine: Syntheses, structures and extraction studies
2011
Abstract The syntheses and structural studies of an [O,N,O,N′]-type phenolic ligand [(N’,N’-bis(2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-(propen-2-yl)benzyl)-N-(2-aminoethyl)morpholine), (H2L) and two new uranyl complexes of this ligand are described. The reaction between uranyl nitrate hexahydrate and H2L in a 1:2 M ratio (M to H2L) results in a uranyl complex of the formula [UO2(HL)(NO3)(H2O)] (1). In the presence of a base (triethylamine), with the same molar ratio, the uranyl complex [UO2(HL)2]·2CH3CN (2) is formed. The molecular structures H2L, 1 and 2 were verified by X-ray crystallography. Both uranyl complexes are zwitterions with a neutral net charge. A comprehensive NMR-structural analyses of all co…
Effects of ultrasound-assisted extraction on physicochemical properties, bioactive compounds, and antioxidant capacity for the valorization of hybrid…
2021
Samples of tree hybrid mandarins (´Clemenvilla`, ´Ortanique` and ´Nadorcott`) were employed to determine the physicochemical properties (increase of conductivity, brix° and pH), bioactive compounds (total phenolic, flavonoid, ascorbic acid and carotenoids content) and antioxidant capacity (DPPH and TEAC) of peels. Mandarin peel extracts were prepared employing ultrasound assisted extraction (400 W, 80% v/v duty cycle, 40ºC). The results were compared to the values of control extraction method. Aqueous ethanol solution (50%, v/v) was used as solvent in solid-liquid ratio of 1:10 (w/v). A 5, 15 and 30 min were applied in both methods to stablish the most effective extraction time. The increas…
Application of Molecular Imprinted Polymers for Selective Solid Phase Extraction of Bisphenol A
2016
Abstract Selective molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with bisphenol A as template were synthesized using the non-covalent imprinting approach. MIPs were prepared using thermally initiated polymerization with 1,1’-azobis(cyclohexanecarbonitryle) (ACHN) as initiator and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) as a cross-linking agent. The tested functional monomers included methacrylic acid, acrylamide, and 4-vinylpyridine. The selectivity of the BPA-MIP for the solid phase extraction of bisphenol A was tested in samples containing other related alkylphenols. The polymers prepared in acetonitrile using methacrylic acid or acrylamide as monomer showed the highest selectivity towards target a…
Analysis of carbamate pesticides and their metabolites in water by solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography: A review
2001
Carbamates are an important, broad class of pesticides that are used extensively as insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides. Sensitive, economical, fast, and environmental friendly procedures are constantly developed to investigate their residues in water samples. The state of the art in methods based on solid phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatographic determination are examined here. SPE is presently the most extended method for preconcentration of carbamate pesticide residues and their transformation products from water samples. Advantages and limitations of alkyl bonded-silica, and polymeric sorbents, carbon, and mixed-phases in off-line and on-line procedures are discussed. Beca…
Solid–liquid extraction of ω-amino acids using ditopic receptors
2008
Abstract Five heteroditopic ligands have been prepared to be used in solid–liquid extraction of ω-amino acids into DMSO solutions. The prepared ligands contain crown ethers as cation binding sites and thiourea or amide groups for anion recognition. The aliphatic zone of the 1H NMR spectra suggests that two different species related to the amino acid are present in solution. One of these species is the complexed zwitterionic form and the other seems to be free non-zwitterionic amino acid. The presence of these two species allows extraction efficiencies higher than 100%.
Salt extraction regeneration technologies
2022
Abstract A salinity gradient power heat engine is a novel sustainable technology for the conversion of low-grade waste heat (T This chapter presents an overview of the main regeneration technologies based on the “salt extraction strategy” reported in the literature. A salt extraction regeneration unit takes advantage of the property of specific chemical compounds to shift from a soluble form to separable species in solution allowing the salt transfer between the exhausted solutions and aiding their regeneration. The regeneration processes reported here are classified into (i) switchable solubility salts and (ii) thermolytic salts. The first class includes compounds characterized by thermal…
Evaluating the potential of cell disruption technologies for green selective extraction of antioxidant compounds from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves
2015
Abstract An increased interest has been shown by both food technologists and food industry regarding Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves ( Stevia ) for their high content of bioactive components (phenolic compounds, vitamin C, carotenoids). The aim of this work was to study the effect of emerging technologies such as high voltage electrical discharges (HVED) and pulsed electric fields (PEF) and ultrasounds (US) on the intensification of the extraction of valuable compounds from Stevia leaves. The proposed processes combined pretreatment (HVED, PEF and US) and extraction of intracellular compounds using water as solvent at ambient temperature. The energy inputs of the treatments varied from 24 …
