Sterically controlled self-assembly of tetrahedral M(6)L(4) cages via cationic N-donor ligands.

2014

Tripodal cationic N-donor ligands exhibit sterically controlled self-assembly of tetrahedral M6L4 coordination cages that promote selective anion encapsulation (PF6(-)OTf(-)) in the solid state. The described method is a potential template for stepwise assembly of hetero-ligand coordination cages and polymers.

A clickable NHC–Au(i)-complex for the preparation of stimulus-responsive metallopeptide amphiphiles

We report the synthesis of an alkyne functionalised NHC-Au(i)-complex which is conjugated with amphiphilic oligopeptides using a copper(i) catalysed cycloaddition. The resulting Au(i)-metalloamphiphiles are shown to self-assemble into charge-regulated stimulus-responsive supramolecular polymers in water via a weakly cooperative polymerisation mechanism.

Sie werden von Carbonyleisenpulver im sauren Medium zu Triphenylphosphin bzw. Triphenylarsin bzw. Chinaldin reduziert. Triphenylphosphin und Triphenylarsin, die sich als Schicht auf dem Carbonyleisenpulver befinden, konnen nach Extraktion dunnschichtchromatographisch identifiziert werden. Donor–Acceptor Polymers for Electrochemical Supercapacitors: Synthesis, Testing, and Theory

Donor–acceptor polymers can store both a positive and negative charge allowing them to function as both the positive and negative charge storage material in a supercapacitor device, however few have been explored for this application. Here, we describe the synthesis of several donor–acceptor polymers and their electrodeposited polymer electrodes. We use differing molecular structures to examine the effect of electron acceptor concentration and show that device stability can be improved significantly by increasing the acceptor concentration. The interaction between peracetylated beta-cyclodextrin and several triphenyl phosphine derivatives was studied in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) by UV-visible spectroscopy. The equilibrium constant for a 1:1 complexation reaction was obtained from titration spectra and calculated using two established mathematical models. The values of the equilibrium constants are 1-3 orders of magnitude smaller than those obtained in aqueous solution with analogous phosphines. This is likely due to the absence in scCO2 of the hydrophobic effect, which is replaced by a corresponding, but weaker, CO2-phobic effect. The Cu(2+)-mediated self-assembly of oxamato-based ligands derived from either the (S)- or (R)-enantiomers of the amino acid valine leads to the formation of two antiferromagnetically coupled homochiral anionic hexacopper(II) wheels in the presence of templating tetramethylammonium countercations.

Biocompatible Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-halloysite Nanotubes for Thermoresponsive Curcumin Release

The grafting of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM) onto the halloysite external surface is proposed in order to obtain a novel thermoresponsive drug carrier for curcumin delivery. The new nanomaterial is characterized by means of FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and SEM investigations. A high density of polymer chain was achieved at the nanoparticle surface. The PNIPAAM dehydration phenomenon was observed in water above 32 °C that is nearly coincident with the lower critical solution temperature for the polymer. Time-monitoring sensor based on oxygen diffusion in an indicator/polymer matrix

Abstract A time-monitoring sensor based on the oxidation of leuco methylene blue (LMB) to methylene blue (MB) was developed. The sensor changes its color from yellow to green in the presence of oxygen and was integrated into a poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix. The diffusion of the oxygen in the polymer matrix as well as the oxygen uptake due to the oxidation reaction determines the time monitoring of the sensor. A physical model has been developed that accounts for both the diffusion as well as the oxidation reaction. For this purpose, the reaction kinetics was determined experimentally. Mechanical properties of injection-molded binary blends of polyethylene with small additions of a liquid-crystalline polymer

The results of the investigation of the mechanical properties of polyethylene (PE) blends with small (<3 wt %) additions of thermotropic liquid-crystalline polymers (LCPs) are reported. PE/LCP compositions with various LCP weight contents were obtained by thermoplastic mixing in a two-stage process. Short-term and long-term mechanical behavior of various PE/LCP compositions were analyzed. Data on the influence of LCP addition on the tensile elastic modulus [or Young's modulus (E)], stress at yield (σY), stress at break (σB), strain at yield, strain at break, and deformation at long-term (1000-h) tensile creep were obtained. Sorting of Enhanced Reference Raman Spectra of a Single Amino Acid Molecule

In this contribution, we report the identification of the principal reference Raman spectra of a single cystein molecule. To that purpose, we design an active Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) template based on surfactant-less Chebyshev nanoparticles operating in a microfluidic platform. A principal component analysis is obtained from fluctuating spectra to sort the reference spectra of cystein. The assignment of Raman bands brings new insight into the conformation of an amino acid adsorbed onto gold nanoparticle.
