Summary Levels of free 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC), its malonyl conjugate (MACC) and ACC-synthase activity were significantly higher in the needles of damaged Norway spruce trees ( Picea abies (L.) Karst ) compared with those in undamaged trees during both the diurnal and seasonal courses. The concentrations of ACC and MACC, and ACC-synthase activity fluctuated much more intensively in the needles of damaged trees both in the diurnal and the seasonal courses than in those of undamaged ones, which implies that damaged trees respond more sensitively to the environmental conditions. Investigation of molecular dimers by ensemble and single molecule spectroscopy

International audience; We have investigated molecular dimers with different electronic coupling strengths by bulk and single molecule spectroscopy. In one of the dimers the two monomers (perylene-monoimide) are directly connected via a single bond while in the other one they are separated by the benzil motif. The close proximity of the monomers in the first case gives rise to excitonic band splitting which is clearly observable in the bulk absorption spectra. For the benzil structure the electronic interactions are governed by Förster-type energy hopping between the monomers. A family of azo and stilbene derivatives (1-9) are synthesized, and their chromo-fluorogenic behavior in the presence of nerve-agent simulants, diethylchlorophosphate (DCP), diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP), and diethylcyanophosphate (DCNP) in acetonitrile and mixed solution of water/acetonitrile (3:1 v/v) buffered at pH 5.6 with MES, is investigated. The prepared compounds contain 2-(2-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)ethanol or 2-[(2-N,N-dimethylamino)phenoxy]ethanol reactive groups, which are part of the conjugated pi-system of the dyes and are able to give acylation reactions with phosphonate substrates followed by a rapid intramolecular N-alkylation. Mutations in the genes for CNGA3, CNGB3, and GNAT2 have been associated with this disorder. Here, we analyzed the spectrum and prevalence of CNGB3 gene mutations in a cohort of 341 independent patients with achromatopsia. In 163 patients, CNGB3 mutations could be identified. Zinc for conjugate alkynylation: The enantioselective conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to 2-arylidene-1,3-diketones in the presence of diethylzinc and a catalytic amount of (R)-VANOL has been developed. The reaction can be applied to different aromatic and heteroaromatic alkynes and enones, giving the expected products in good yield and with enantiomeric excesses up to 91%. The products can be enantiomerically enriched up to 99% ee by crystallization (see scheme).
