Independent Geometrical Control of Spin and Charge Resistances in Curved Spintronics
2019
Spintronic devices operating with pure spin currents represent a new paradigm in nanoelectronics, with higher energy efficiency and lower dissipation as compared to charge currents. This technology, however, will be viable only if the amount of spin current diffusing in a nanochannel can be tuned on demand while guaranteeing electrical compatibility with other device elements, to which it should be integrated in high-density three-dimensional architectures. Here, we address these two crucial milestones and demonstrate that pure spin currents can effectively propagate in metallic nanochannels with a three-dimensional curved geometry. Remarkably, the geometric design of the nanochannels can b…
Visualization of Jacques Lacan’s Registers of the Psychoanalytic Field, and Discovery of Metaphor and of Metonymy. Analytical Case Study of Edgar All…
2017
International audience; We start with a description of Lacan’s work that we then take into our analytics methodology. In a first investigation, a Lacan-motivated template of the Poe story is fitted to the data. A segmentation of the storyline is used in order to map out the diachrony. Based on this, it will be shown how synchronous aspects, potentially related to Lacanian registers, can be sought. This demonstrates the effectiveness of an approach based on a model template of the storyline narrative. In a second and more comprehensive investigation, we develop an approach for revealing, that is, uncovering, Lacanian register relationships. Objectives of this work include the wide and genera…
The HOMFLY-PT polynomials of sublinks and the Yokonuma–Hecke algebras
2016
We describe completely the link invariants constructed using Markov traces on the Yokonuma-Hecke algebras in terms of the linking matrix and the HOMFLYPT polynomials of sublinks.
Biomonitoring of 20 elements in urine of children. Levels and predictors of exposure
2015
The levels of 20 elements in the urine of one hundred twenty children (Ages 6-11) from an agricultural and an urban area of Valencia Region, Spain, were assessed. The seven essential elements analysed (Co, Cu, Mn, Mo, Se, V, Zn) presented average concentrations (geometric mean) ranging from 0.22 µg L(-1) to 63 µg L(-1) (except Zn with 525 µg L(-1)). Eight out of the 13 toxic elements determined (As, Ba, Cd, Cs, Ni, Pb, Tl, Hg) had frequencies of detection of 100%, with geometric mean concentrations from 0.17 µg L(-1) (Cd) to 33.6 µg L(-1) (As). About 18% of children revealed urinary levels of total As higher than the normal range of 100 µg L(-1) accepted by the ATSDR. The urine analysis was…
Current status of the torus palatinus and torus mandibularis
2007
While there is a hereditary component to tori, this does not explain all cases. Tori tend to appear more frequently during middle age of life; the torus palatinus is more commonly observed in females, but this is not the case with the torus mandibularis. Certain ethnic groups are more prone to one torus or the other. The torus is mainly removed due to prostodontic reasons, as it may also be used as biomaterial, not only in periodontology, but also in implantology. The aim of this study was a review of the literature from the past twenty years. Sin financiación 1.071 JCR (2010) Q3, 52/77 Dentistry, oral surgery & medicine UEM
A stochastic approach for automatic registration and fusion of left atrial electroanatomic maps with 3D CT anatomical images.
2007
The integration of electroanatomic maps with highly resolved computed tomography cardiac images plays an important role in the successful planning of the ablation procedure of arrhythmias. In this paper, we present and validate a fully-automated strategy for the registration and fusion of sparse, atrial endocardial electroanatomic maps (CARTO maps) with detailed left atrial (LA) anatomical reconstructions segmented from a pre-procedural MDCT scan. Registration is accomplished by a parameterized geometric transformation of the CARTO points and by a stochastic search of the best parameter set which minimizes the misalignment between transformed CARTO points and the LA surface. The subsequent …
Comment on ‘Estimating average annual per cent change in trend analysis’ by Clegg LX, Hankey BF, Tiwari R, Feuer EJ, Edwards BK, Statistics in Medici…
2010
Trends in incidence or mortality rates over a specified time interval are usually described by the conventional annual per cent change (cAPC), under the assumption of a constant rate of change. When this assumption does not hold over the entire time interval, the trend may be characterized using the annual per cent changes from segmented analysis (sAPCs). This approach assumes that the change in rates is constant over each time partition defined by the transition points, but varies among different time partitions. Different groups (e.g. racial subgroups), however, may have different transition points and thus different time partitions over which they have constant rates of change, making co…
Computational Study of Failure of Hybrid Steel Trussed Concrete Beams
2017
This study investigates the failure behavior of hybrid steel trussed concrete beams (HSTCBs) under three-point bending through a series of finite-element (FE) simulations. The FE model employs well-established constitutive relations of concrete and steel with a simplified contact condition between the concrete and steel truss. The numerical model is compared with existing experimental data as well as a FE model that uses a more sophisticated concrete-steel interfacial model. The comparison shows that the present model is able to capture various failure mechanisms of the beam and its peak load capacity. The model is applied to investigate the behavior of a set of HSTCBs of different sizes, w…
Geometric Analysis of Type B Aortic Dissections Shows Aortic Remodeling After Intervention Using Multilayer Stents
2020
Recently, multilayer stents for type B aortic dissections (TBAD) have been proposed to decrease false lumen flow, increase and streamline true lumen flow, and retain branch vessel patency. We aimed to provide a protocol with standardized techniques to investigate aortic remodeling of TBAD by multilayer flow modulators (MFM) in static geometric and hemodynamic analyses. Combining existing literature and new insights, a standardized protocol was designed. Using pre- and postoperative CT scans, geometric models were constructed, lumen dimensions were calculated, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models were composed, and velocity and pressures were calculated. Sixteen TBAD cases treated with …
Assembly and Speed in Ion-Exchange-Based Modular Phoretic Microswimmers.
2017
We report an experimental study on ion-exchange-based modular microswimmers in low-salt water. Cationic ion-exchange particles and passive cargo particles assemble into self-propelling complexes, showing self-propulsion at speeds of several micrometers per second over extended distances and times. We quantify the assembly and speed of the complexes for different combinations of ion-exchange particles and cargo particles, substrate types, salt types and concentrations, and cell geometries. Irrespective of the experimental boundary conditions, we observe a regular development of the assembly shape with increasing number of cargo. Moreover, the swimming speed increases stepwise upon increasing…
