A comprehensive classification of craniofacial fractures: postmortem and clinical studies with two- and three-dimensional computed tomography.

Abstract A comprehensive classification of midfacial/craniofacial fractures, based on two- and three-dimensional computed tomography (2D and 3D-CT) is presented. We performed a postmortem analysis of 24 patients who had died from trauma with signs of craniofacial fractures, based on 2D and 3D-CT studies with pathoanatomical findings. In addition, CT findings for 100 patients with craniofacial injuries requiring an emergency CT were correlated with surgical findings and follow-up results. On the basis of the analysis of a total of 377 fractures a classification system is proposed. Abstract Recent studies on electrochemical meso- and β-functionalization of porphyrins and electrografting of diazonium porphyrin are presented. First, the electrochemical oxidative C–C coupling between porphyrins will be presented, followed by the intermolecular and intramolecular meso- and β-substitutions of porphyrins. Then, the latest results on diazonium porphyrin electrografting will be reviewed.

The terpolymerization of the three monomers (3-vinyl phenylazo)methylmalodinitrile (1), (3-vinyl phenylazo)phenylsulfid (2) or 1-(3-vinylphenylazo)-1,1′-diphenyl methylacetate (3) with methyl methacrylate and butanediol-1,4-dimethyacrylate leads to networks in which the thermolabile azo groups remain intact. Both, the azo monomer and the crosslinking agent are essentially quantitatively incorporated into the network before the conversion of the third monomer is complete. Electrostatic Anchoring of Mn4 Single-Molecule Magnets onto Chemically Modified Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes

Two different routes that enable the electrostatic grafting of cationic single-molecule magnets (SMMs) onto the surface of chemically modified anionic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are described. The chemical nature and physical properties of the resulting hybrids are discussed on the basis of a complete battery of experimental techniques. The data show that the chemical nature of the SMM unit remains intact, while its magnetic response is significantly affected by the grafting process, which is likely due to surface effects.
Biocompatibility of alginates for grafting: impact of alginate molecular weight.

Optimising microencapsulation technology towards the effective clinical transplantation has created the need for highly biocompatible alginates. Therefore, in this study the biocompatibility of different beads prepared from alginates with varying average molecular weight was examined. In some experiments the beads were covered with a multilayer membrane surrounded by an alginate layer. First of all, we found that beads made of a lower weight average alginate elicted a much stronger fibrotic response compared to beads made of a higher weight average alginate (LV-alginate > MV-alginate). International audience; The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the surface charge and coating of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) on their in vitro and in vivo behaviors. Neutral and negatively-charged PEG-based SPIONs were synthesized and compared to Resovist (R), a carboxydextran-based SPION currently used in clinics. Their cytotoxicity, cell internalization, and potential as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging were assessed. Expression of PIP1 and PIP2 aquaporins is enhanced in olive dwarf genotypes and is related to root and leaf hydraulic conductance

The expression of OePIP1.1 and OePIP2.1 aquaporins in root, stem and leaf was higher in Olea europaea L. (olive) plants carrying a dwarfing (D) clone as rootstock, than in plants carrying a vigorous (M) clone as rootstock. The highest difference of expression between plants with D and M rootstocks was detected in the root and for the PIP2 gene, the transcripts of which show a high water channel activity in oocytes. Compared with plants with M rootstock, plants with D rootstock showed reduced root and canopy biomass and reduced hydraulic conductance of the bulk root system (Kroot).
