It is discussed controversially which donor characteristics may be detrimental. Abstract Background Objective of this study was to evaluate the acute cardiovascular and respiratory effects of switching on the deep brain stimulation in the follow up of nine Parkinson's disease patients with subthalamic nucleus stimulation and six cluster headache patients with posterior hypothalamic area stimulation. The relationship between the pharmacokinetics and dynamics of digoxin was investigated using a skin blistering technique that allows experimental access to tissue fluid concentrations. Eight healthy volunteers received digoxin, 1.0 mg, and placebo intravenously according to a double-blind crossover design. Drug concentrations were determined during a 72-hour period in serum, urine, and cantharides blister fluid (CBF). An inter-individual, randomized, double-blind study of digitoxin (Dt) and β-acetyl digoxin (D) was performed in 120 healthy male volunteers. Investigation into isoprenaline resistance in patients with obstructive lung disease

12 patients with chronic obstructive lung disease have been studied in an investigation regarding the causes of resistance to isoprenaline. The effects of repeated intravenous doses of 10 µg isoprenaline were assessed by cross over comparison before and after infusions of isoprenaline and a placebo; the infusions lasted for 35 to 40 min and the amount of isoprenaline infused was 0.5 µg/min. Total resistance, thoracic gas volume (whole-body plethysmography) and heart rate (ECG) were measured. No decrease in bronchospasmolytic or positive chronotopic effects on single isoprenaline injections could be demonstrated after prolonged infusions of isoprenaline.

In subclinical diabetic cardiomyopathy, previous reports did not positively correlate the altered cardiac performance with metabolic parameters. Fifteen insulin-dependent diabetic subjects, without any clinical or instrumental evidence of heart diseases, were studied. Signs of diabetic microangiopathy were absent. Background and aims: CKD patients have a high prevalence of LVH and this leads to an increase of cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and left ventricular geometry in a group of 293 hypertensive patients with stage 2–5 chronic kidney disease (CKD), compared with 289 essential hypertensive patients with normal renal function.
