EPA-0703 – Performance of the hamilton depression rating subscales to predict antidepressant treatment response in the early course of treatment
2014
Early improvement ( EI ), i.e. a symptom reduction from baseline of at least 20% after 2 weeks, has been proven to be a clinically useful predictor for later treatment outcome. In most studies EI is identified by using the sum score of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD). Several unidimensional subscales of the HAMD exist, which have proven to be an economic measure of treatment change. Their ability to detect onset of improvement in comparison to the full HAMD has not been researched yet. The present study investigated in patients with major depression (MD) (1) whether the HAMD subscales are a valid and economic option to predict antidepressant treatment response in the early cours…
Investigations on the Mechanism of Induction of the Alkaline Phosphatase by Bromodesoxyuridine in Herpes simplex Virus Transformed Cells and the Tran…
1980
Addition of BrdUrd in combination with prednisolone to HSVi-transformed hamster embryo cells induces an alkaline phosphatase (AP). FdUrd enhances, dThd reduces the inducing capacity of BrdUrd and prednisolone. Induction is prevented by addition of cycloheximide or of cytosine arabinoside. BrdUrd reduces transport and phosphorylation of exogenously applied labeled Urd, especially the amount of UTP, UDP and Urd-diphosphate sugars. The Lineweaver-Burk-plot of uridine-uptake after addition of BrdUrd reveales the characteristics of the mixed type inhibition (competitive-noncompetitive).
The burial of Bad Dürrenberg, Central Germany: osteopathology and osteoarchaeology of a Late Mesolithic shaman's grave
2006
The isolated burial of Bad Durrenberg is one of the richest Mesolithic graves in Europe. Although it was excavated in the 1930s, new spectacular anthropological and archaeological evidence has emerged during a recent re-study. Firstly, we present here the results of an anthropological re-evaluation of certain features of the skull base and the foramen magnum. Our work has clearly established that the observable features are caused by an anatomical variation that also includes an atlar anomaly. This developmental variation possibly caused various neuropathological symptoms. The Bad Durrenberg burial consequently represents a unique case of the possible interpretation of abnormal behaviours i…
A special body: Exposure ritual of a Bronze Age seated cadaver from the cemetery of Humanejos (Parla, Madrid, Spain)
2020
Abstract Seated positions are extraordinarily exceptional in prehistoric graves and despite the increasing number of new cases its social meaning remains uncertain. This paper presents a new finding of a Bronze Age seated burial discovered in the prehistoric cemetery of Humanejos (Parla). Such a unique burial is carefully analyzed in the context of the IInd millennium cal BC burial rituals. Firstly, the different phases of the inhumation were described through an archaeothanatological approach, which showed that the body was originally bound in a sitting position and then the upper part, which was exposed, naturally collapsed after the decomposition process. Furthermore, the biological feat…
Art-Based Inquiry as a Method in Creating Artistic Performances Based on Historical Narratives
2020
This article focuses on art-based inquiry as an approach to creating artistic performances based on narratives related to historical events. The performance referred to is The Flight from Trakehnen, a multimedia presentation using dance, music, audio, texts, images, video clips, stage lightning, and equestrian sport. It was created in a university and upper secondary school context in collaboration with a local equestrian sport establishment. The performance was re-presented as a chamber music concept in a recital hall. The Flight from Trakehnen unfolds against a backdrop of dramatic events during the very last months of the Second World War and highlights the human values of courage and ho…

From the shade into the sun: exploring pride and shame in students with special needs in Finnish VET
2021
This paper reports on a study of the dynamics of social emotions and social bonds between students and class teachers by analysing the narratives of students receiving intensive special support in the Finnish vocational education and training (VET) system. Pride refers to a strong and safe involvement in interaction, and shame implies intimidated social bonds. The analysis is based on abductive content analysis for which Greimas’ actant model worked as an analysis tool. We found some students showing high respect to their teachers who acted as senders setting the objects for students’ studying. Pride is based on the students’ experiences in achieving the objects, thereby pleasing their teac…
University Teachers’ Professional Identity Work and Emotions in the Context of an Arts-Based Identity Coaching Program
2020
In changing work contexts, there is a critical need to adopt practices that support professional identity work in order to promote individuals’ resilience and well-being at work. This chapter reports on an investigation into professional identity work and emotions in the context of an arts-based coaching program aimed at prompting experienced university teachers to process their professional identities. Since different (un)pleasant emotions emerged during the program, the chapter notably discusses the advantages and pitfalls of using arts-based methods among adults. The findings also contribute to the theoretical understanding of the role of emotions in professional identity processes by re…
The RedTube copyright infringement affair in Germany: shame on who?
2015
Recently, tens of thousands of German Internet users were confronted with copyright infringement claims for allegedly watching porn clips on the streaming platform RedTube.com. The alleged copyright infringers received ‘Abmahnung’ cease and desist letters that gave them an opportunity to settle copyright infringements out of court by paying rights-holders €250 in compensation. While in cases relating to peer-to-peer file-sharing, the IP address of a peer can easily be identified,1 the RedTube case raises the question how consumers of a stream could be identified. In addition, it raises the question of whether the consumption of a stream is illegal under German law. Assuming that this is not…

Regulatory T cells (Treg) play a pivotal role in the immune system since they inhibit the T cell response. It is well known that cyclophosphamide applied at low dose is able to stimulate the immune response while high dose cyclophosphamide exerts inhibitory activity. Data obtained in mice indicate that cyclophosphamide provokes a reduction in the number of Treg and impairs their suppressive activity, resulting in immune stimulation. Here, we addressed the question of the sensitivity of human Treg to cyclophosphamide, comparing Treg with cytotoxic T cells (CTL) and T helper cells (Th). We show that Treg are more sensitive than CTL and Th to mafosfamide, which is an active derivative of cyclo…
