Probing the chiral weak Hamiltonian at finite volumes

Non-leptonic kaon decays are often described through an effective chiral weak Hamiltonian, whose couplings ("low-energy constants") encode all non-perturbative QCD physics. It has recently been suggested that these low-energy constants could be determined at finite volumes by matching the non-perturbatively measured three-point correlation functions between the weak Hamiltonian and two left-handed flavour currents, to analytic predictions following from chiral perturbation theory. Here we complete the analytic side in two respects: by inspecting how small ("epsilon-regime") and intermediate or large ("p-regime") quark masses connect to each other, and by including in the discussion the two …

Kaon mixing beyond the SM from N-f=2 tmQCD and model independent constraints from the UTA

We present the first unquenched, continuum limit, lattice QCD results for the matrix elements of the operators describing neutral kaon oscillations in extensions of the Standard Model. Owing to the accuracy of our calculation on Delta S = 2 weak Hamiltonian matrix elements, we are able to provide a refined Unitarity Triangle analysis improving the bounds coming from model independent constraints on New Physics. In our non-perturbative computation we use a combination of N-f = 2 maximally twisted sea quarks and Osterwalder-Seiler valence quarks in order to achieve both O(a)-improvement and continuum-like renormalization properties for the relevant four-fermion operators. Scattering and gluon emission in a color field : a light-front Hamiltonian approach

We develop a numerical method to nonperturbatively study scattering and gluon emission of a quark from a colored target using a light-front Hamiltonian approach. The target is described as a classical color field, as in the color glass condensate effective theory. The Fock space of the scattering system is restricted to the |q⟩+|qg⟩ sectors, but the time evolution of this truncated system is solved exactly. This method allows us to study the interplay between coherence and multiple scattering in gluon emission. It could be applied both to studying subeikonal effects in high-energy scattering and to understanding jet quenching in a hot plasma.

Plant viruses move through plasmodesmata to infect new cells. The plant endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is interconnected among cells via the ER desmotubule in the plasmodesma across the cell wall, forming a continuous ER network throughout the entire plant. This ER continuity is unique to plants and has been postulated to serve as a platform for the intercellular trafficking of macromolecules. In the present study, the contribution of the plant ER membrane transport system to the intercellular trafficking of the NSm movement protein and Tomato spotted wilt tospovirus (TSWV) is investigated. Gene expression atlases are crucial for the identification of genes expressed in different tissues at various plant developmental stages. Here, we present the first comprehensive gene expression atlas for a summer squash cultivar, including transcripts obtained from seeds, shoots, leaf stem, young and developed leaves, male and female flowers, fruits of seven developmental stages, as well as primary and lateral roots. Intermolecular potential and rovibrational states of the H2O–D2 complex

Faure, L. Wiesenfeld, C. Rist, S. Kedzuch, J. Noga, J. Chem. Phys. 129 (2008) 134306] by averaging over the ground state vibrational wave functions of H2O and D-2. Abstract Monochromadzed Al-K α XPS spectra from iso- and syndiotacdc polystyrenes are analyzed with the help of theoretical band structures and densities of states produced from a valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) computation scheme. A discussion of the correlations found between the experimental and theoretical results points out to the potentialities but also to the limits of both methods.

The contribution of hydrogen peroxide to the radiosensitizing effect of gold nanoparticles

Abstract Plasmid DNA in aerated aqueous solution is used as a probe to determine whose of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated after absorption of ultra-soft X-rays (USX) take part in biomolecule damage in the presence and in absence of Gold Nano-Particles (GNP) and specific scavengers. Citrate-coated GNPs with core sizes of 6, 10 and 25 nm are synthetized and characterized, especially in terms of plasmon band shift, ζ-potential and hydrodynamic radii (respectively 9, 21 and 30 nm). We confirm the radiosensitizing effect of GNP and show that the SSB number per plasmid increases when, for a same mass of gold element, the core size of the gold nanoparticles decreases. End-to-end tests using alanine dosimetry in scanned proton beams

This paper describes end-to-end test procedures as the last fundamental step of medical commissioning before starting clinical operation of the MedAustron synchrotron-based pencil beam scanning (PBS) therapy facility with protons. One in-house homogeneous phantom and two anthropomorphic heterogeneous (head and pelvis) phantoms were used for end-to-end tests at MedAustron. The phantoms were equipped with alanine detectors, radiochromic films and ionization chambers. The correction for the 'quenching' effect of alanine pellets was implemented in the Monte Carlo platform of the evaluation version of RayStation TPS.
