A comparative analysis of two immersive virtual reality systems in the integration and visualization of natural hand interaction
2022
AbstractIt is generally accepted that the use of natural interaction provides a positive impact in Virtual Reality (VR) applications. Therefore, it is important to understand what is the best way to integrate and visualize this feature in VR. For this reason, this paper presents a comparative study of the integration of natural hand interaction in two immersive VR systems: a Cave Audio Visual Experience (CAVE) system –where users’ real hands are visible– and a non-see-through Head-Mounted Display (HMD) system –where only a virtual representation of the hands is possible–. In order to test the suitability of using this type of interaction in a CAVE and compare it to an HMD, we raise six rese…

VACTERL with hydrocephalus: A further case with probable autosomal recessive inheritance
1994
(Supplement Table S2) Results of 230Th/U-dating
2016
We compared the suitability of two skeletal materials of the Atlantic brain coral Diploria strigosa for 230Th/U-dating: the commonly used bulk material comprising all skeletal elements and the denser theca wall material. Eight fossil corals of presumably Last Interglacial age from Bonaire, southern Caribbean Sea, were investigated, and several sub-samples were dated from each coral. For four corals, both the ages and the activity ratios of the bulk material and theca wall agree within uncertainty. Three corals show significantly older ages for their bulk material than for their theca wall material as well as substantially elevated 232Th content and (230Th/238U) ratios. The bulk material sam…
Comparison of Different Methods for the Calculation of Indices of Paternity
1992
The qualitative decision about paternity in trio cases on the basis of DNA multilocus profiles is no problem. If there are more than 1 or 2 exclusion patterns (band present in child, which is neither present in mother or alleged father), the putative father has to be excluded. The problems arise, if, in the case of a non exclusion, one wants to quantify the evidence for paternity. Different statistics have been proposed for this purpose. This paper discusses three of these statistics and demonstrates their application to real data.
Reliability of automated optical determination of capillary refill time
2021
The present study is devoted to assessment of automated optical capillary refill time determination by custom developed optoelectronic device prototype. Study comprised fifteen healthy volunteers; To induce capillary refill time changes the hand position challenge was utilized. During rest conditions slight inter-subject variation was observed: T90 (0.75±0.27 s), TSTB (2.20±0.58 s) and temperature at the measurement site (32.21±1.87 Co), however during hand position challenge results were more consistent. Rising hand substantially increased, while lowering slightly decreased capillary refill time. We conclude that automated determination of refill time have high clinical potential, however …
Recognising a hand by grasp.
2000
The present study aimed to demonstrate that motor representations are used to recognise biological stimuli. In three experiments subjects were required to judge laterality of hands and forearms presented by pictures. The postures of the hands were those assumed when holding a small, medium and large sphere. In experiment 1, the sphere held in hand was presented, whereas in experiment 2 it was absent. In experiment 3, the same images, showing holding-a-sphere hands, as in experiment 1 were presented, but without forearm. In all experiments one finger of each hand could be absent. In experiment 1 recognition time was longer for those hand postures for which the corresponding grasping motor ac…
