A new approach for assessing minimum flow in ephemeral streams

The aim of this paper is to propose a new methodological approach, appropriate for low-yielding catchments, by calculating the ecological minimum river flow starting from the river water quality based on biological indicators and physical–chemical characteristics as reported in the Italian Water Law no. 152/06 and in the UE 2000/60 Directive (WFD: Water Framework Directive). The proposed essay covers the redesign of the graphic notes for a small manual on the “serial” houses. Written by Giuseppe Vaccaro between 1940 and 1942 when he was called to participate in military actions during the second great war. The text, the schemes and the design elaborated by the Bolognese architect not only seem to ‘anticipate’ the housing emergency that would have occurred at the end of the conflict, but also they highlight his imaginative power. Held firm both by knowledge careful of the manuals that from the themes of the existenzminimum.

The designers and managers of theme parks seek first of allto encourage the visitor's immersion in the heart of an ex-traordinary experience. Nevertheless, access to this type ofconsumption experience is not systematic and the visitor'simmersion does not seem permanent. In this article, we of-fer a better understanding of the park experience. Buildingon the analysis of 41 introspective diaries of theme parkvisitors, we identify states of immersion but also other ex-perienced states (submersion, emersion, reject). On a ma-nagerial plan, this approach offers understanding keys toparks managers and more globally to managers of touristsites offering extraordinary experiences.

Understanding space in ephemeral organizations: contributions of commented walksThis article examines a particular type of ephemeral organization in which institutional and secular actors are connected resting upon on a strong territorial basis. Their fleeting quality is however compatible with a certain degree of permanency. The authors question the sources and resources of such permanency and insist on the role of space in coordinating collective action, and in this case, in preventing urban incivilities. They call on an unusual method, called Commented Walks, to capture the relation between such organizations and space.
A non-canonical chemical feedback self-limits nitric oxide-cyclic GMP signaling in health and disease

Endothelial nitric oxide (NO) stimulates the heme protein, soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) to form vasoprotective cyclic GMP (cGMP). In different disease states such as pulmonary hypertension, NO-cGMP signaling is pharmacologically augmented, yet the pathomechanisms leading to its dysregulation are incompletely understood. Here we show in pulmonary artery endothelial cells that endogenous NO or NO donor compounds acutely stimulate sGC activity, but chronically down-regulate both sGC protein and cGMP formation. Mössbauer spectroscopy on the reaction center of Rhodopseudomonas viridis

Proteins called “reaction centers” (RC) can be isolated from many photosynthetic bacteria. They have one non-heme iron in a quinone acceptor region. The RC of Rhodopseudomonas viridis contains an additional tightly bound tetra-heme cytochrome c subunit. The electronic configuration of both cytochrome and the non-heme iron has been studied in the crystallized protein by Mossbauer spectroscopy at different redox potentials, pH-values, and with an addition of o-phenanthroline. At high potentials (Eh=+500mV) all heme irons are in the low spin Fe3+-state, and at low potential (Eh=−150mV) they are low spin Fe2+ with the same Mossbauer parameters for all hemes independent of pH. The benefit of integrated analysis has been demonstrated in technical literature and it is also required by the EU Water Framework Directive 60/2000, which proposes a water-quality-orientated view of the whole urban drainage system and oversees new ways of assessing its performance. This paper present a method for close range photogrammetry based on an camera positioning scheme in which two cameras capture an equal portion of an object at the same scale, but have different focal lengths and camera-to-object distances. This scheme is alternative to the stereoscopic scheme and is associated with a system of equations which permits one to calculate first the relief displacement of points on a photograph and then their relief relative to a reference plane.
