Unshared binding sites for Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa and Cry3Ca proteins in the weevil Cylas puncticollis (Brentidae)

Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Aa and Cry3Ca proteins have been reported to be toxic against the African sweetpotato pest Cylas puncticollis. In the present work, the binding sites of these proteins in C. puncticollis brush border vesicles suggest the occurrence of different binding sites, but only one of them is shared. Our results suggest that pest resistance mediated by alteration of the shared Cry-receptor binding site might not render both Cry proteins ineffective.

ABSTRACT Despite the fact that around 200 cry genes from Bacillus thuringiensis have already been cloned, only a few Cry proteins are toxic towards a given pest. A crucial step in the mode of action of Cry proteins is binding to specific sites in the midgut of susceptible insects. Binding studies in insects that have developed cross-resistance discourage the combined use of Cry proteins sharing the same binding site. W teologii Zwingliego nauka o sakramentach ma znaczenie drugorzędne. Potrzebę i konieczność sakramentów reformator ograniczał praktycznie tylko do umocnienia słabych w wierze. Przeciwnie do tradycyjnego poglądu chrzest pełni w teologii Zwingliego jedynie rolę inicjującego znaku, który jest znakiem przymierza, osobistego wyznania wiary, zobowiązania się do prowadzenia chrześcijańskiego życia i znakiem potwierdzającym przynależność do widzialnego Kościoła. Dla reformatora duchowa substancja chrztu jest zupełnie oddzielona od znakowej.

In Catholic theology use of the term “dogma” is the most frequently associated with the normative dimension of faith. The above given title while speaking about “reflction” seems in addition to limit the meaning of the notion of “dogma” to the cognitive matters.
