Mono-DMSO ligated cobalt nitrophenylcorroles: electrochemical and spectral characterization

Four mono-DMSO ligated cobalt corroles with one or three meso-nitrophenyl substituents on the macrocycle were synthesized and investigated as to their electrochemical and spectroscopic properties in CH2Cl2 and DMSO. Comparisons are made between redox reactions of the five-coordinate DMSO adducts in the current study and earlier examined five- and six-coordinate cobalt corroles with pyridine axial ligands which were characterized in a variety of nonaqueous electrochemical solvents. The binding of carbon monoxide (CO) is also investigated.

Two-photon absorption of BF2-carrying compounds: insights from theory and experiment

This communication presents a structure–property study of a few novel pyridine-based difluoroborate compounds with a N–BF2–O core, which exhibit outstanding fluorescence properties. To exploit their potential for two-photon bioimaging, relationships between the two-photon action cross section and systematic structural modifications have been investigated and unravelled.

Theoretical study on the decomposition mechanism of bisphenol A polycarbonate induced by the combined effect of humidity and UV irradiation.

Polycarbonate (PC) is a good material for covering and protecting cultural heritage sites because of its durability, mechanical properties, and transparency. When bisphenol A polycarbonate is subjected to weathering conditions this polymer shows several degradation processes depending on the irradiation wavelength, humidity and temperature. In particular, the combined effects of humidity and UV irradiation speed up the PC molecular weight reduction. Influence of Wind on Suspended Matter in the Water of the Albufera of Valencia (Spain)

Wind is one of the factors that has a great influence on suspended matter in lakes, especially in shallow lagoons. In order to know how wind affects the water in Albufera of Valencia, a shallow coastal lagoon, the measured variables of turbidity and transparency have been correlated with the estimates by processing Sentinel-2 satellite images with the Sen2Cor processor. Data from four years of study show that most of them are light to gentle easterly breezes and moderate to fresh westerly breezes. Analysis of directional effects on atmospheric correction

Abstract Atmospheric correction in the Visible and Near Infrared (VNIR) spectral range of remotely sensed data is significantly simplified if we assume a Lambertian target. However, natural surfaces are anisotropic. Therefore, this assumption will introduce an error in surface directional reflectance estimates and consequently in the estimation of vegetation indexes such as the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the surface albedo retrieval. Record-breaking warming and extreme drought in the Amazon rainforest during the course of El Niño 2015–2016

AbstractThe El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the main driver of interannual climate extremes in Amazonia and other tropical regions. The current 2015/2016 EN event was expected to be as strong as the EN of the century in 1997/98, with extreme heat and drought over most of Amazonian rainforests. Here we show that this protracted EN event, combined with the regional warming trend, was associated with unprecedented warming and a larger extent of extreme drought in Amazonia compared to the earlier strong EN events in 1982/83 and 1997/98. Land Use Affects Carbon Sources to the Pelagic Food Web in a Small Boreal Lake

Small humic forest lakes often have high contributions of methane-derived carbon in their food webs but little is known about the temporal stability of this carbon pathway and how it responds to environmental changes on longer time scales. We reconstructed past variations in the contribution of methanogenic carbon in the pelagic food web of a small boreal lake in Finland by analyzing the stable carbon isotopic composition (δ13C values) of chitinous fossils of planktivorous invertebrates in sediments from the lake. International audience; Ocean acidification in modern oceans is linked to rapid increase in atmospheric CO 2 , raising concern about marine diversity, food security and ecosystem services. Proxy evidence for acidification during past crises may help predict future change, but three issues limit confidence of comparisons between modern and ancient ocean acidification, illustrated from the end-Permian extinction, 252 million years ago: (1) problems with evidence for ocean acidification preserved in sedimentary rocks, where proposed marine dissolution surfaces may be subaerial.
