Using the latency for tail-flick after thermal stimulation we have assessed the effects of alpha-, gamma(1)- and gamma(2)-MSH on nociceptive threshold in the mice. Intracisternal injections of gamma(2)-MSH induced a distinct analgesia, while gamma(1)-MSH in the same doses gave only a minor analgesia. Intracisternal alpha-MSH instead gave a short-term hyperalgesia. The effect of gamma(2)-MSH was not blocked by any of the MC(4)/MC(3)receptor antagonist HS014, naloxone or by the prior intracisternal administrations of gamma(1)-MSH. Extending and validating gestUI using technical action research

gestUI is a model-driven method with tool support to define custom gestures and to include gesture-based interaction in existing user software system interfaces. So far, gestUI had been limited to the definition of the same gesture catalogue for all users of the software system. Components of an antigen-/T cell receptor-independent pathway of lymphokine production

The general way to induce the synthesis of lymphokines by T cells is the stimulation through the T cell receptor (TcR) complex which results in an increase of intracellular [Ca2+] and in the activation of a tyrosine kinase as well as of protein kinase C. Lymphokine production induced via the TcR is inhibited by the immunosuppressive drug cyclosporin A (CsA). However, an alternative pathway of lymphokine production exists. Calculation of atomic spectra and transition amplitudes for superheavy element Db (Z=105)

Atomic spectra and other properties of superheavy element dubnium (Db, $Z=105$) are calculated using recently developed method combining configuration interaction with perturbation theory [the CIPT method, V. A. Dzuba, J. C. Berengut, C. Harabati, and V. V. Flambaum, Phys. Rev. A 95, 012503 (2017)]. These include energy levels for low-lying states of Db and Db II, electric dipole transition amplitudes between the ground state and low-lying states of opposite parity, isotope shift for these transitions, and the ionization potential of Db. Similar calculations for Ta, which is a lighter analog of Db, are performed to control the accuracy of the calculations.

Introduction: Since 2008, new oral anticoagulants (NOACs) have been approved for the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients receiving hip or knee replacement surgery, prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE). Premarketing randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of NOACs demonstrated their non-inferiority in terms of efficacy vs. warfarin (traditional oral anticoagulant–TOA), with lower risk of serious adverse drug reactions, especially cerebral hemorrhages. A human CCT5 gene mutation causing distal neuropathy impairs hexadecamer assembly in an archaeal model

Chaperonins mediate protein folding in a cavity formed by multisubunit rings. The human CCT has eight non-identical subunits and the His147Arg mutation in one subunit, CCT5, causes neuropathy. Knowledge is scarce on the impact of this and other mutations upon the chaperone's structure and functions. To make progress, experimental models must be developed. We used an archaeal mutant homolog and demonstrated that the His147Arg mutant has impaired oligomeric assembly, ATPase activity, and defective protein homeostasis functions.
