Genome Evolution in the Primary Endosymbiont of Whiteflies Sheds Light on Their Divergence

2015

International audience; Hemipteran insects are well-known in their ability to establish symbiotic relationships with bacteria. Among them, heteropteran insects present an array of symbiotic systems, ranging from the most common gut crypt symbiosis to the more restricted bacteriome-associated endosymbiosis, which have only been detected in members of the superfamily Lygaeoidea and the family Cimicidae so far. Genomic data of heteropteran endosymbionts are scarce and have merely been analyzed from the Wolbachia endosymbiont in bed bug and a few gut crypt-associated symbionts in pentatomoid bugs. In this study, we present the first detailed genomic analysis of a bacteriome-associated endosymbi…

Visual information flow in Wilson-Cowan networks.

2020

In this paper, we study the communication efficiency of a psychophysically tuned cascade of Wilson-Cowan and divisive normalization layers that simulate the retina-V1 pathway. This is the first analysis of Wilson-Cowan networks in terms of multivariate total correlation. The parameters of the cortical model have been derived through the relation between the steady state of the Wilson-Cowan model and the divisive normalization model. The communication efficiency has been analyzed in two ways: First, we provide an analytical expression for the reduction of the total correlation among the responses of a V1-like population after the application of the Wilson-Cowan interaction. Second, we empiri…

MUSIC-LS Modal Channel Estimation for an OFDM-OQAM System

2008

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) signaling over frequency selective multipath channels shows inter-symbol interference (ISI) and Inter-Channel Interference (ICI) that degrade its performance. Channel equalization and channel estimation are needed to combat these intrinsic interferences. In this paper a novel modal channel estimator based on the MUltiple signal classification (MUSIC) and least squares (LS) algorithms for a wideband passband OFDM-OQAM signaling over static multipath channels is presented. The effects of the frequency selective channel on the received signal are described considering a wideband OFDM-OQAM sys…

Distributed Resource Allocation for Energy Efficiency in OFDMA Multicell Networks with Wireless Power Transfer

2019

In this paper, an energy-efficient resource allocation problem is investigated for the wireless power transfer (WPT)-enabled OFDMA multicell networks. In the considered system, multiple base stations (BSs) with a large number of antennas are responsible to provide WPT in the downlink, and the users can recycle and utilize the received energy for uplink data transmission. The role of BS is to execute WPT; thus, there are no data transmissions in the downlink. A time-division protocol is considered to divide the time of downlink WPT and uplink wireless information transfer into separate time slots. With the objective to improve the energy efficiency, we propose the time, subcarrier, and power…

Efficient Simulation of Orthogonal Multicarrier Transmission over Multipath Fading Channels

2011

Filterbank orthogonal multicarrier transmission schemes, such as OFDM/OQAM, are currently under intense study for their spectral efficiency and suitability for the physical layer of Cognitive Radio. Nonetheless, the mathematical description of the signal is cumbersome, and closed form expressions for performance figures are not available, so performance analysis on fading channels has to be performed by means of simulations. We propose an algorithm for simulating the received signal over multipath frequency selective fading channels, based on Taylor series expansion of the channel transfer function. The proposed method is compared to the state-of-the-art FFT-based method in terms of computa…

A 16QAM super-orthogonal space-frequency code for broadband mobile communication systems with two transmit antennas

2010

We combine our previously designed 32-state super-orthogonal space-time trellis code (SOSTTC) with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to build a broadband mobile communication system having a spectral efficiency that amounts to 4 bits/s/Hz depending on the length of the cyclic prefix used to avoid interframe interference. The transmitter is equipped with two antennas, where the OFDM frames they transmit are not independent, as they carry the same information in an orthogonal form. The 2N OFDM tones are grouped in N pairs of tones. Each group of two tones transmits the entries of a 2×2 orthogonal matrix. In our case, the entries are symbols taken from the rectangular 16-point …

A Wideband One-Ring MIMO Channel Model Under Non-Isotropic Scattering Conditions

2008

In this paper, we present a wideband one-ring multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel model for non-isotropic scattering environments. The model is designed in such a way that the delay power spectral density (PSD) of the resulting reference channel model is identical to a given delay PSD. Furthermore, we present an efficient deterministic channel simulation model obtained by using the principle of deterministic channel modeling. The statistical properties of both the reference model and the simulation model are also studied. Analytical expressions will be presented for the temporal autocorrelation function (ACF), the two-dimensional (2D) space cross-correlation function (CCF), and th…

Iontophoretic Transdermal Delivery of Sumatriptan: Effect of Current Density and Ionic Strength

2005

ABSTRACT: Iontophoretic transdermal delivery of sumatriptan was investigated in vitro . Among the conditions tested, 0.25 mA/cm 2 and low ionic strength (NaCl 25 mM) was the best experimental condition to increase its transport across the skin. The flux increased 385-fold respective to passive diffusion, thus resulting in a transdermal flux of sumatriptan of 1273 ± 83 nmol/cm 2 h. © 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc. and the American Pharmacists Association

Iontophoretic in Vitro Release of Antimycotics from Hydrogels

1993

A new in vitro model for iontophoretic release from hydrogels was developed. It represents a modification of the rotary disk cell developed by Moll/Bender and can be used in a normal dissolution tester. The iontophoretic release from antimycotic hydrogels through an artificial membrane was investigated and different types of antimycotics were tested. The influence of current density, drug concentration and vehicle was determined.

The action of iontophoretically applied acetylcholine and dopamine on single claustrum neurones in the cat.

1981

Abstract The effects of iontophoretically applied acetyl-choline (ACh) and dopamine (DA) on spontaneously active claustral neurones, in chloralose-anaesthetised cats, have been investigated. Acetylcholine had both facilitatory and inhibitory effects in almost the same proportions. The action of DA was prevalently inhibitory. Two types of inhibitory response to ACh and DA are described: short-lasting inhibition and long-lasting inhibition. The excitatory response always outlasted the period of drug application.
