Sympathetic cooling of protons and antiprotons with a common endcap Penning trap.

We present an experiment to sympathetically cool protons and antiprotons in a Penning trap by resonantly coupling the particles to laser cooled beryllium ions using a common endcap technique. Our analysis shows that preparation of (anti)protons at mK temperatures on timescales of tens of seconds is feasible. Successful implementation of the technique will have immediate and significant impact on high-precision comparisons of the fundamental properties of protons and antiprotons. This in turn will provide some of the most stringent tests of the fundamental symmetries of the Standard Model.

A comprehensive analysis of six variables characterizing gene expression in yeast, including transcription and translation, mRNA and protein amounts, reveals a general tendency for levels of mRNA and protein to be harmonized, and for functionally related genes to have similar values for these variables.

Latvijā poliprenoli tiek tirgoti kā uztura bagātinātāji, bet nav daudz zinātnisku pētījumu par to farmakoloģisko iedarbību. Iepriekšējie pētījumi in vivo ir apliecinājuši poliprenolu spēju samazināt statīnu izraisīto muskuļu vājumu laboratorijas dzīvniekiem. Darbojoties kā HMG-CoA reduktāzes inhibitori, statīni nobloķē mevalonskābes sintēzi un, iespējams, arī Q10, poliprenolu un doliholu sintēzi, un tiek pieļauts, ka muskuļu vājums ir tieši šo savienojumu līmeņu samazinājuma dēļ. Un tel tableau se rencontre quand on étudie les échanges entre pays ou régions, les flux migratoires ou financiers, etc. Le premier problème qu’on étudie est la reconstitution du tableau quand on ne connaît que ses marges, mais pas les données du tableau elles-mêmes, sachant que celles-ci sont néanmoins proches de celles d’un autre tableau. This study examined the dynamics between perceptions of mathematics task-orientation and mathematics performance among Finnish adolescents over a period of two last years of secondary school. Task-orientation in math was assessed at the beginning of grade 8 and again at the end of grade 9 using both student and teacher-reports. At the same time points, students' mathematics performance was evaluated via standardized test. ChemInform Abstract: Two New Sesquiterpene Derivatives from the Tunisian Endemic Ferula tunetana Pom.

A new sesquiterpene ester, tunetanin A (1), a new sesquiterpene coumarin, tunetacoumarin A (2), together with eight known compounds, i.e., coladin (3), coladonin (4), isosmarcandin (5), 13-hydroxyfeselol (6), umbelliprenin (7) propiophenone (8), beta-sitosterol (9), and stigmasterol (10), were isolated from the roots of Ferula tunetana. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic methods, including 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments and MS analysis, as well as by comparison with published data. The cytotoxicity of compounds 1-7 towards two human colon cancer cell lines, HT-29 and HCT 116, was evaluated. Compounds 3, 4, and 6 showed weak cytotoxic activities.
