A generalized method for the design of ergodic sum-of-cisoids simulators for multiple uncorrelated rayleigh fading channels

2010

In this paper, we present a new method for the design of ergodic sum-of-sinusoids (SOS) simulation models for multiple uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. The method, which is intended for a special class of SOS models, known as sum-of-cisoids (SOC) models, can be used to generate an arbitrary number of uncorrelated Rayleigh fading waveforms with specified Doppler power spectral characteristics. This is in contrast to the SOS simulators currently available in the open literature that have been designed under the isotropic scattering assumption, which are limited to the simulation of uncorrelated channels characterized by Clarke's U-shaped Doppler power spectral density (DPSD). The excell…

Optical sectioning microscopy through single-shot Lightfield protocol

2020

Optical sectioning microscopy is usually performed by means of a scanning, multi-shot procedure in combination with non-uniform illumination. In this paper, we change the paradigm and report a method that is based in the light field concept, and that provides optical sectioning for 3D microscopy images after a single-shot capture. To do this we fi rst capture multiple orthographic perspectives of the sample by means of Fourier-domain integral microscopy (FiMic). The second stage of our protocol is the application of a novel refocusing algorithm that is able to produce optical sectioning in real time, and with no resolution worsening, in the case of sparse f luorescent samples. We provide the…

The Lightfield Microscope Eyepiece

2021

Lightfield microscopy has raised growing interest in the last few years. Its ability to get three-dimensional information about the sample in a single shot makes it suitable for many applications in which time resolution is fundamental. In this paper we present a novel device, which is capable of converting any conventional microscope into a lightfield microscope. Based on the Fourier integral microscope concept, we designed the lightfield microscope eyepiece. This is coupled to the eyepiece port, to let the user exploit all the host microscope’s components (objective turret, illumination systems, translation stage, etc.) and get a 3D reconstruction of the sample. After the optical design, …

Control of a PTZ camera in a hybrid vision system

2014

In this paper, we propose a new approach to steer a PTZ camera in the direction of a detected object visible from another fixed camera equipped with a fisheye lens. This heterogeneous association of two cameras having different characteristics is called a hybrid stereo-vision system. The presented method employs epipolar geometry in a smart way in order to reduce the range of search of the desired region of interest. Furthermore, we proposed a target recognition method designed to cope with the illumination problems, the distortion of the omnidirectional image and the inherent dissimilarity of resolution and color responses between both cameras. Experimental results with synthetic and real …

A genetic algorithm for image segmentation

2002

The paper describes a new algorithm for image segmentation. It is based on a genetic approach that allow us to consider the segmentation problem as a global optimization problem (GOP). For this purpose, a fitness function, based on the similarity between images, has been defined. The similarity is a function of both the intensity and the spatial position of pixels. Preliminary results, obtained using real images, show a good performance of the segmentation algorithm.

Variation in contents of main active components and antioxidant activity in leaves of different pigeon pea cultivars during growth.

2013

Pigeon pea is an important and multiuse grain legume crop, and its leaves are a very valuable natural resource. To obtain a high-quality biological resource, it is necessary to choose the excellent cultivar and determine the appropriate harvest time. In this study, the variation in contents of main active components and antioxidant activity in leaves of six pigeon pea cultivars during growth were investigated. The level of each individual active component significantly varied during growth, but with a different pattern, and this variation was different among cultivars. Flavonoid glycosides orientin, vitexin, and apigenin-6,8-di-C-α-L-arabinopyranoside showed two peak values at mid-late and …

Synthetic scene simulator for hyperspectral spaceborne passive optical sensors. Application to ESA's FLEX/sentinel-3 tandem mission

2014

The simulation of synthetic images serve scientists and engineers to study the instrument configuration as well as to develop image processing and retrieval strategies for a sensor in development. Despite synthetic scene simulators have been developed in the past in the frame of satellite missions, their functionality and flexibility to create a user-defined scene is limited by their architecture, design and implementation. This paper introduces the design of a generic scene simulator with the flexibility to generate realistic synthetic scenes by configuration of the surface and atmosphere. Following this generic design, a scene simulator is being developed for the ESA's Earth Explorer 8th …

Blockchain for Smart Cities: Applications for IoT and Video Surveillance Systems

2020

The recent revolution of the Internet of Things introduces new engaging operat- ing scenarios. The IoT paradigm enables the intertwined use of physical and soft- ware components through the interconnection of devices that exchange data with each other without direct human interaction in several fields, especially in industrial and home environments. In the framework of the Italian-Vietnamese cooperation on the topics of smart cities and Blockchain, we present two applications of the blockchain technology, which can be applied, respectively in indoor, for monitoring and controlling smart homes, and in outdoor, for visual monitoring through video surveillance systems. In both cases, we propos…

Texture advection on discontinuous flows

2015

Texture advection techniques, which transport textures using a velocity field, are used to visualize the dynamics of a flow on a triangle mesh. Some flow phenomena lead to velocity fields with discontinuities that cause the deformation of the texture which is not properly controlled by these techniques. We propose a method to detect and visualize discontinuities on a flow, keeping consistent texture advection at both sides of the discontinuity. The method handles the possibility that the discontinuity travels across the domain of the flow with arbitrary velocity, estimating its speed with least-squares approximation. The technique is tested with different sample scenarios and with two avala…

Hardware implementation of content based video indexing algorithms

2005

This paper focus on hardware implementation of content based video indexing techniques by using the FPGA technology. We aim to propose hardware modules that can satisfy requirements of constrained applications, such as real time applications and complex applications that can combine a large number of techniques in the same indexing system. We represent tow examples of micro-architectures related to the dominant colors descriptor and the compact color descriptor.
