Background Hydrodynamic injection has demonstrated to be very efficient in the liver of small animals, although this procedure must be translated to the clinical practice in a milder but no less efficient way. The present study evaluates the capacity of non-invasive interventional catheterization as a procedure for naked DNA delivery to the heart in large animals. Infarct size delineation by triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining is dependent on sufficient reperfusion. We therefore evaluated the possibility of using propidium iodide (PI), a reagent conventionally used in flow cytometry to fluorescently stain dead cells, for infarct size analysis after short periods of reperfusion. Forty-five rabbits were subjected to either 15 min, 2 h or 4.5 h of coronary artery occlusion without reperfusion, or to 15 min, 30 min and 2 h of coronary artery occlusion followed by 30 min, 1 h and 3 h of reperfusion. Possible roles of nitric oxide in the physiology and pathophysiology of the guinea pig cochlea.

Two nitric oxide synthase isoforms (NOS-I and NOS-III) are present in the mammalian cochlea, and many regulatory functions of the inner ear could be mediated by NO. In this study, cochlear potentials and immunohistochemical measures were analyzed by changing the concentration of NO in the guinea pig during intracochlear and intravenous application of an NOS inhibitor and an NO donor. In anesthetized guinea pigs the NOS inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine-methylester (L-NAME) was applied by intracochlear perfusion or intravenously. Importance of spin current generation and detection by spin injection and the spin Hall effect for lateral spin valve performance.

Lateral spin valves are attractive device geometries where functional spin currents can be generated and detected by various mechanisms, such as spin injection and the direct and the inverse spin Hall effect. To understand the mechanisms behind these effects better, as well as their potential for application in devices, we combine multiple mechanisms in multi-terminal Pt-Py-Cu lateral spin valves: we generate pure spin currents in the copper spin conduit both via the spin Hall effect in platinum and electric spin injection from permalloy and detect signals both via conventional non-local detection and via the inverse spin Hall effect in the same device at variable temperatures. Tuning Spin Current Injection at Ferromagnet-Nonmagnet Interfaces by Molecular Design.

There is a growing interest in utilizing the distinctive material properties of organic semiconductors for spintronic applications. Here, we explore the injection of pure spin current from Permalloy into a small molecule system based on dinaphtho[2,3-b:2,3-f]thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (DNTT) at ferromagnetic resonance. The unique tunability of organic materials by molecular design allows us to study the impact of interfacial properties on the spin injection efficiency systematically. We show that both the spin injection efficiency at the interface and the spin diffusion length can be tuned sensitively by the interfacial molecular structure and side chain substitution of the molecule.

Solution encoding describes the way decision variables are represented. In the case of permutation problems, the classical encoding should ensure that there are no duplicates. During crossover operations, repairs may be carried out to correct or avoid repetitions. The use of indirect encoding aims to define bijections between the classical permutation and a different representation of the decision variables. These encodings are not sensitive to duplicates. The simultaneous determination of two dissolution profiles with the aid of a Flow Injection Analysis assembly has been applied to: (a) sulfadiazine-trimethoprim in tablets and (b) amitriptyline-perphenazine in sugar coated pills. The selected combinations are drugs which have overlapping UV-vis spectra. The officially proposed procedure from the pharmacopoeias has been adapted for the FIA methodology and derivative spectrophotometry and zero crossing.
