Optimization of instrumental parameters for improving sensitivity of single particle inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry analysis of gold

2021

Single particle inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (spICP-MS) is a promising technique for analysis of engineered nanoparticles, whose utilization has increased substantially over the past years. Optimization of instrumental conditions is, however, crucial to improve the sensitivity and precision of nanoparticle (NP) detection. In this study, the influence of ICP-MS instrumental parameters (nebulizer gas flow, plasma radiofrequency-power and sampling depth) on the signal intensity of gold in spICP-MS was evaluated using dispersions of Au NPs and a solution of dissolved gold. The interaction effects of the main factors were found to have a significant effect on the signal intensity…

Transmembrane electrochemistry of erythrocytes: Direct electrochemical test for detecting hemolysis in whole blood

2016

A rapid method for detecting hemolysis in whole blood based on a direct electrochemical assay either in venous blood and finger blood, respectively at glassy carbon and screen-printed graphite electrodes is described. The presence of hemolysis is detected from characteristic voltammetric signatures associated to Fe-heme units in healthy and hemolyzed erythrocytes. The voltammetric response of blood was also investigated using scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and involved transmembrane electrochemistry of erythrocytes superimposed to molecular electrochemistry of heme-containing proteins and heme fragments in the plasma. Voltammetric testing …

Graphene and ionic liquids new gel paste electrodes for caffeic acid quantification

2015

Abstract Graphene/ionic liquids nanocomposite gels were synthesized by an electrochemical etching approach and fully characterized under a morphological and structural point of view. For this purpose, several analytical techniques were applied, as HR-TEM/EDX (High Resolution-Transmission Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis); FE-SEM/EDX (Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis); XPS (X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy); FT-IR (Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy) and electrochemical techniques. After the characterization study, nanocomposite-gel paste electrodes were assembled, exhibiting a selective and specific detection toward the ca…

New n-type molecular semiconductor–doped insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions combining a triphenodioxazine (TPDO) and the lutetium bisphthalocyanine (Lu…

2018

International audience; Molecular semiconductor–doped insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions were designed using a new family of sublayers, namely triphenodioxazines (TPDO). The device obtained by combining the tetracyano triphenodioxazine bearing two triisopropylsilylethynyl moieties as a sublayer with the lutetium bisphthalocyanine (LuPc2) as a top layer showed a nonlinear current–voltage characteristic independent of the sign of the polarization, which is the signature of MSDI heterojunctions. Thus, a TPDO was used in a chemical sensor for the first time. Despite LuPc2 being the only material exposed to the atmosphere, the positive response of the device under ammonia revealed the key role pla…

FT-ICR MS studies of ion-molecule reactions of Ru+ and Os+ with oxygen

2005

Abstract The reactions of stored ruthenium and osmium cations with oxygen have been studied in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometer. In case of osmium the reaction products OsO+ and OsO 2 + have been observed and corresponding reaction-rate constants have been determined. In addition, there is an unreactive fraction of Os+ ions due to the presence of a slightly endothermic reacting ground state. Only the excited states react with oxygen. For ruthenium no spontaneous reaction with oxygen has been observed unless the cyclotron motion of Ru+ was excited. The results are discussed with respect to a similar investigation in a Penning trap-TOF mass spectrometer […

A study of the effect of molecular and aerosol conditions in the atmosphere on air fluorescence measurements at the Pierre Auger Observatory

2010

The air fluorescence detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory is designed to perforin calorimetric measurements of extensive air showers created by Cosmic rays of above 10(18) eV. To correct these measurements for the effects introduced by atmospheric fluctuations, the Observatory contains a group Of monitoring instruments to record atmospheric conditions across the detector site, ail area exceeding 3000 km(2). The atmospheric data are used extensively in the reconstruction of air showers, and are particularly important for the correct determination of shower energies and the depths of shower maxima. This paper contains a summary of the molecular and aerosol conditions measured at the Pierr…

Studies of narrow autoionizing resonances in gadolinium

2003

The autoionization (AI) spectrum of gadolinium between the first and second limits has been investigated by triple-resonance excitation with high-resolution cw lasers. A large number of narrow AI resonances have been observed and assigned total angular momentum J values. The resonances are further divided into members of AI Rydberg series converging to the second limit or other ''interloping'' levels. Fine structure in the Rydberg series has been identified and interpreted in terms of Jc j coupling. A number of detailed studies have been performed on the interloping resonances: These include lifetime determination by lineshape analysis, isotope shifts, hyperfine structure, and photoionizati…

"Identification of mixed bromidochloridotellurate anions in disordered crystal structures of (bdmim)2[TeX2Y4] (X, Y = Br, Cl; bdmim = 1-butyl-2,3-dim…

2013

Abstract The discrete mixed [TeBrxCl6−x]2− anions in their disordered crystal structures have been identified by using the phases prepared by the reaction of 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium halogenides (bdmim)X with tellurium tetrahalogenides TeX4 (X = Cl, Br) as examples. Homoleptic (bdmim)2[TeX6] [X = Cl (1), Br (2)] and mixed (bdmim)2[TeBr2Cl4] (3), and (bdmim)2[TeBr4Cl2] (4) are formed depending on the choice of the reagents, and their crystal structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The coordination environments of tellurium in all hexahalogenidotellurates are almost octahedral. Because of the crystallographic disorder, the mixed [TeBr2Cl4]2− and [TeBr4Cl2]2…

ESR and electrochemical studies of 2-acylpyridines and 6,6'-diacyl-2,2'-bipyridines.

2005

Abstract The ESR spectra of radicals obtained by electrolytic reduction of 2-acylpyridines and 6,6′-diacyl-2,2′-bipyridines were measured in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and analyzed by quantum chemical calculations. The electrochemistry of these compounds was characterized using cyclic voltammetry, in DMSO solvent. The results showed a two step reduction mechanism, first wave was assigned to the generation of the correspondent free radical species, and the second wave was assigned to the dianion derivatives. AM1 and DFT calculations were performed to obtain the optimized geometries, theoretical hyperfine constants, and spin distributions, respectively. The theoretical results are in complete a…

"Reactivity of Cu3Si of different genesis towards copper(I) chloride"

2000

Abstract A comparative study of the reactivity between copper(I) chloride and three types of Cu 3 Si obtained in a molten medium (Cu 3 Si-Ref) and from mechanical activation following an annealing process (Cu 3 Si-M2AP) or a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (Cu 3 Si-MASHS) was performed by thermogravimetry under vacuum using non-isothermal and isothermal methods of kinetic measurement. It was established that for the three Cu 3 Si/CuCl systems, the acceleration and decay stages in the temperature range 145–215°C are very closely approximated by an equation of the Prout–Tompkins type where an autocatalytic process was proposed. The lower apparent activation energy obtained for the…
