Designed biodegradable hydrogel structures prepared by stereolithography using poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(D,L-lactide)-based resins

2010

Designed three-dimensional biodegradable poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(D,L-lactide) hydrogel structures were prepared for the first time by stereolithography at high resolutions. A photo-polymerisable aqueous resin comprising PDLLA-PEG-PDLLA-based macromer, visible light photo-initiator, dye and inhibitor in DMSO/water was used to build the structures. Porous and non-porous hydrogels with well-defined architectures and good mechanical properties were prepared. Porous hydrogel structures with a gyroid pore network architecture showed narrow pore size distributions, excellent pore interconnectivity and good mechanical properties. The structures showed good cell seeding characteristics, and human…

Current injection from metal to MoS2 probed at nanoscale by conductive atomic force microscopy

2016

Contacts with MoS2 are currently the object of many investigations, since current injection through metal/MoS2 interfaces represents one of the limiting factors to the performance of MoS2 thin film transistors. In this paper, we employed conductive atomic force microscopy (CAFM) to investigate the current injection mechanisms from a nanometric contact (a Pt coated tip) to the surface of MoS2 thin films exfoliated on SiO2. The analysis of local current-voltage (I-V) characteristics on a large array of tip positions provided high spatial resolution information on the lateral homogeneity of the tip/MoS2 Schottky barrier Phi(B) and of the ideality factor n. From the histograms of the measured P…

Polymer/metal hybrid multilayers modified Schottky devices

2013

Insulating, polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), and semiconducting, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT), nanometer thick polymers/Au nanoparticles based hybrid multilayers (HyMLs) were fabricated on p-Si single-crystal substrate. An iterative method, which involves, respectively, spin-coating (PMMA and P3HT deposition) and sputtering (Au nanoparticles deposition) techniques to prepare Au/HyMLs/p-Si Schottky device, was used. The barrier height and the ideality factor of the Au/HyMLs/p-Si Schottky devices were investigated by current-voltage measurements in the thickness range of 1-5 bilayers. It was observed that the barrier height of such hybrid layered systems can be tuned as a function of bilayers …

L'identité de Fay en théorie des systèmes intégrables

2011

Fay's identity on Riemann surfaces is a powerful tool in the context of algebro-geometric solutions to integrable equations. This relation generalizes a well-known identity for the cross-ratio function in the complex plane. It allows to establish relations between theta functions and their derivatives. This offers a complementary approach to algebro-geometric solutions of integrable equations with certain advantages with respect to the use of Baker-Akhiezer functions. It has been successfully applied by Mumford et al. to the Korteweg-de Vries, Kadomtsev-Petviashvili and sine-Gordon equations. Following this approach, we construct algebro-geometric solutions to the Camassa-Holm and Dym type …

Electro-optic control of photographic imaging quality through ‘Smart Glass’ windows in optics demonstrations

2017

An experimental setup allowing the modeling of conditions in optical devices and in the eye at various degrees of scattering such as cataract pathology in human eyes is presented. The scattering in cells of polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) and 'Smart Glass' windows is used in the modeling experiments. Both applications are used as optical obstacles placed in different positions of the optical information flow pathway either directly on the stimuli demonstration computer screen or mounted directly after the image-formation lens of a digital camera. The degree of scattering is changed continuously by applying an AC voltage of up to 30–80 V to the PDLC cell. The setup uses a camera wi…

Biofiltration System for Purification of Composting Waste Gases

2006

The biofiltration technique for the purification of polluted air from composting facility volatile compounds was studied. Two different biowaste composting techniques were compared with regard to emission of NH3 and H2S. The ammonia removal was observed in aerobic phase of active composting period, respectively H2S in anaerobic phase. Biofiltration process was realized in modified solid- state fermentation system (SSF). The biodegradation of volatile compounds was investigated in one and two stage systems with inert packing material and hemoautotrofic microorganisms designed DN-1 (Pseudomonas sp.), DN-2 (Nitrisomonas sp.), DN-3 (Nitrobacter sp.) and DN-13 (Sarcina sp.) and Thiopharus-3. The…

High-Resolution Spectroscopy and Preliminary Global Analysis of C–H Stretching Vibrations of C2H4 in the 3000 and 6000 cm-1 Regions

2010

International audience; Ethylene (ethene, H2C=CH2) is a naturally occurring compound in ambient air that affects atmospheric chemistry and global climate. The C2H4 spectrum is available in databases only for the 1000 and 3000 cm−1 ranges. In this work, the ethylene absorption spectrum was measured in the 6030- 6250 cm−1 range with the use of a high resolution Bruker IFS 125HR Fourierspectrometer and a two-channel opto-acoustic spectrometer with a diode laser. As a secondary standard of wavelengths, the methane absorption spectrum was used in both cases. A preliminary analysis was realized thanks to the tensorial formalism developed by the Dijon group that is implemented in the XTDS software…

Temperature–Time Relationship in Collembolan Response to Chemical Exposure

1999

Abstract Effects of temperature on chemical toxicity to a collembolan, Folsomia candida , in relation to time were studied in this experiment. Field soil was used as a test substrate. Collembolans were incubated at three different temperatures (+13, +16, and +19°C) and in two different dimethoate concentrations (1 and 3 mg/kg), clean soil serving as the control. Four destructive samplings were done at 2-week intervals. Dimethoate degradation was also analyzed. Dimethoate 1 mg/kg had a slight effect on both adult growth and reproduction, whereas 3 mg/kg was fatal to F. candida in the soil used. Toxic effects tended to last longer at low temperature than at high temperature, but the differenc…
