Synthesis and characterization of redox-sensitive polyurethanes based on L-glutathione oxidized and poly(ether ester) triblock copolymers

Abstract Segmented polyurethanes, based on PCL-PEG-PCL copolymers, 1,4-diisocyanatobutane and l -glutathione oxidized, used as chain extender, were synthetized. Three different reactions conditions were investigated using three different copolymers having ɛ-CL/polyethylene glycol molar ratios equal to 12, 24 and 36 and three different reaction conditions. As investigated by size exclusion chromatography analyses and quantification of l -glutathione, the polymerization and the extension phase's efficiency depended on the ɛ-CL/PEG ratio and the extension phase's operating temperature. Vibrational and rotational collisional relaxation in CO2–Ar and CO2–He mixtures studied by stimulated Raman-infrared double resonance

0021-9606; The collisional relaxation among vibrational levels of the Fermi dyad of CO2 mixed with Ar and He (10% CO2, 90% rare gas) has been studied at room temperature with a double resonance experiment. Stimulated Raman effect from the ground state achieved the pumping process with a Nd:YAG laser and a pulse amplified dye laser. After pumping the v(1) or 2v(2)(Sigma(+)g) level, a cw CO2 laser was used to probe either the depopulation rates of the pumped levels (vibrationally or rotationally resolved) or the energy transfer rates to neighboring states. The biologically induced precipitation processes can be important in wastewater treatment, in particular treating raw wastewater with high calcium concentration combined with Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal. Currently, there is little information and experience in modelling jointly biological and chemical processes. This paper presents a calcium phosphate precipitation model and its inclusion in the Activated Sludge Model No 2d (ASM2d). The precise delta(13)C value of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) is important for various types of ecological studies. Without a preservation agent, microbial degradation of organic compounds continues in water samples and the delta(13)C value of DIC will become more depleted with time. HgCl(2) or acidification is often used to prevent microbial activity in water samples collected for carbon isotope ratio analyses of DIC. Mercury compounds are toxic and result in waste disposal problems. Other inhibiting agents or preservation methods are therefore needed. Modelling of an activated primary settling tank including the fermentation process and VFA elutriation

A complete model of a primary settler including both sedimentation and biological processes is presented. It is a one-dimensional model based on the solids flux concept and the conservation of mass that uses the Takács model for the settling velocity, which is corrected by a compression function in the lower layers. The biological model is based on the ASM2 and enlarged with the fermentation model proposed by this research group. The settler was split in ten layers and the flux terms in the mass balance for each layer is obtained by means of the settling model. Toxic metals have proven to be a major threat to human health, mostly because of their ability to cause membrane and DNA damage, and to perturb protein function and enzyme activity. Interactions of earthworms with Atrazine-degrading bacteria in an agricultural soil
