ABSTRACT An in place colorimetric method has been proposed for estimation of the quantity of lactose in several matrix (milk, water effluents and surfaces). Analyzing the amount of this carbohydrate it can be control the product, the cleanliness of the parts of the dairy companies and it can avoid contamination of milk products produced there. Ras-pathway has a dual role in yeast galactose metabolism

AbstractIn the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae the genes involved in galactose metabolism (GAL1,7,10) are transcriptionally activated more than a 1000-fold in the presence of galactose as the sole carbon source in the culture media. In the present work, we monitored the activity of the GAL10 gene promoter in different Ras-cAMP genetic backgrounds. We demonstrate that overexpression of C-terminus of the nucleotide exchange factor Cdc25p stimulates GAL10 transcription in yeast strains carrying the contemporary deletion of both RAS genes. Glycosylated macromolecular conjugates of antiviral drugs with a polyaspartamide.

Two new polymeric conjugates for specific liver targeting were prepared by conjugation of sugar moieties and antiviral drugs to alpha, beta-poly[N-2-(hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide] (PHEA). PHEA-galactopyranosylphenylthiocarbamide-mono-O-succinylganciclovir (conjugate 7) and PHEA-mannopyranosylphenylthiocarbamide-O-succinylacyclovir (conjugate 8) were synthesized according to a multi-step procedure which allowed for obtaining high product yield and process standardization. The Origins of Lactase Persistence in Europe

Lactase persistence (LP) is common among people of European ancestry, but with the exception of some African, Middle Eastern and southern Asian groups, is rare or absent elsewhere in the world. Lactase gene haplotype conservation around a polymorphism strongly associated with LP in Europeans (−13,910 C/T) indicates that the derived allele is recent in origin and has been subject to strong positive selection. Furthermore, ancient DNA work has shown that the −13,910*T (derived) allele was very rare or absent in early Neolithic central Europeans. The aim of this paper is to study the lubricant capacity of Compritol HD5 ATO, a glyceryl and polyethylene glycol dibehenate, obtained by atomization. This material is compared to Compritol 888 ATO, constituted only by glyceryl dibehenate. First, this study verifies that Compritol HD5 ATO and Compritol 888 ATO present the same granular characteristics and that their mixes with Lactopress present no structural differences. Model-based biotechnological potential analysis of Kluyveromyces marxianus central metabolism

Abstract The non-conventional yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus is an emerging industrial producer for many biotechnological processes. Here, we show the application of a biomass-linked stoichiometric model of central metabolism that is experimentally validated, and mass and charge balanced for assessing the carbon conversion efficiency of wild type and modified K. marxianus. Abstract Background Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) have important and diverse biological functions in early life. This study tested the safety and efficacy of a starter infant formula containing Limosilactobacillus (L.) reuteri DSM 17938 and supplemented with 2’-fucosyllactose (2’FL). Methods Healthy infants < 14 days old (n = 289) were randomly assigned to a bovine milk-based formula containing L. reuteri DSM 17938 at 1 × 107 CFU/g (control group; CG) or the same formula with added 1.0 g/L 2’FL (experimental group; EG) until 6 months of age.
