Research of prognostic biomarkers in Tunisian patients with bladder cancer
2016
Bladder cancer is the first most common urogenital cancer in men in Tunisia, with a high recurrence rate. Patients with muscle-invasive disease develop metastasis. The need for expensive continuous surveillance. In this thesis we try to search some candidate biomarkers. Their use for cancer staging and personalization of therapy at the time of diagnosis in order to identify a better treatment could improve patient care. The aim of this first part of our study was to investigate the clinical significance of three immune cell-related transcription factors, T-bet, GATA-3 and Bcl-6 in Tunisian patients with bladder cancer. We found that T-bet level was significantly higher in invasive carcinoma…
Visceral fat area as a new independent predictive factor of survival in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with antiangiogenic age…
2011
Abstract Purpose. A better identification of patients who are more likely to benefit from vascular endothelial growth factor–targeted therapy is warranted in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). As adipose tissue releases angiogenic factors, we determined whether parameters such as visceral fat area (VFA) were associated with outcome in these patients. Experimental Design. In 113 patients with mRCC who received antiangiogenic agents (bevacizumab, sunitinib, or sorafenib) (n = 64) or cytokines (n = 49) as first-line treatment, we used computed tomography to measure VFA and subcutaneous fat area (SFA). We evaluated associations linking body mass index (BMI), SFA, and VFA to time to progres…
Intravesical gemcitabine in superficial bladder tumors. Results of a phase I-II study
2004
the good tolerability of intravesical gemcitabine have been recently published. The evaluation of the activity on a papillary marker lesion is the best tool to measure the efficacy of a drug by intravesical route against superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder (TCCB). The scientific background and the ethical acceptability of this approach have been validated by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Urological Group. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the ablative efficacy of weekly intravesical instillations of gemcitabine against a histologically proven papillary marker lesion. MATERIAL & METHODS: Twenty-seven patients, affected by recurre…
The pathology of bladder cancer: An update on selected issues
2006
OBJECTIVE: To achieve a closer relationship between urologists and pathologists and to use a common language and identical objectives in the pathology of bladder cancer. METHODS AND RESULTS: Special emphasis was given to an analysis of the new World Health Organization (WHO) grading system, to the interpretation of the last Tumour-Nodes-Metastasis staging rules, and to identifying new markers of prognostic significance in clinical practice. A consensus was achieved on the main points. CONCLUSIONS: The 2004 WHO grading system must become acceptable to clinicians, perhaps by a minimal modification of the present terminology. Simple transurethral resection-biopsy should be expressed in terms o…
Coupled Susy, pseudo-bosons and a deformed su(1, 1) Lie algebra
2021
Abstract In a recent paper a pair of operators a and b satisfying the equations a † a = bb † + γ 1 and aa † = b † b + δ 1 , has been considered, and their nature of ladder operators has been deduced and analyzed. Here, motivated by the spreading interest in non self-adjoint operators in quantum mechanics, we extend this situation to a set of four operators, c, d, r and s, satisfying dc = rs + γ 1 and cd = sr + δ 1 , and we show that they are also ladder operators. We show their connection with biorthogonal families of vectors and with the so-called D -pseudo bosons. Some examples are discussed.
Some results on the rotated infinitely deep potential and its coherent states
2021
The Swanson model is an exactly solvable model in quantum mechanics with a manifestly non self-adjoint Hamiltonian whose eigenvalues are all real. Its eigenvectors can be deduced easily, by means of suitable ladder operators. This is because the Swanson Hamiltonian is deeply connected with that of a standard quantum Harmonic oscillator, after a suitable rotation in configuration space is performed. In this paper we consider a rotated version of a different quantum system, the infinitely deep potential, and we consider some of the consequences of this rotation. In particular, we show that differences arise with respect to the Swanson model, mainly because of the technical need of working, he…
Abstract ladder operators and their applications
2021
We consider a rather general version of ladder operator $Z$ used by some authors in few recent papers, $[H_0,Z]=\lambda Z$ for some $\lambda\in\mathbb{R}$, $H_0=H_0^\dagger$, and we show that several interesting results can be deduced from this formula. Then we extend it in two ways: first we replace the original equality with formula $[H_0,Z]=\lambda Z[Z^\dagger, Z]$, and secondly we consider $[H,Z]=\lambda Z$ for some $\lambda\in\mathbb{C}$, $H\neq H^\dagger$. In both cases many applications are discussed. In particular we consider factorizable Hamiltonians and Hamiltonians written in terms of operators satisfying the generalized Heisenberg algebra or the $\D$ pseudo-bosonic commutation r…
New potentially cytotoxic thiolatogold(I) complexes of 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene
1996
Abstract 1,1′-Bis[chlorogold(I) diphenylphosphino] ferrocene (1) was chosen as the starting material to synthesize new thiolato gold(I) complexes. This has been achieved by substituting the chlorine atoms by monofunctional and bifunctional thiolates affording ‘open’ thiolatogold complexes and trimetallic ferrocenophane-type structures, respectively. The new 1,1′-bis(2,6-dithia-1-phosphanyl)ferrocene (7) containing directly linked P and S atoms was also prepared but no gold complex was obtained. Compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with a=10.2632), b=21.064(4), c=16.259(3) A , β=97.06(2)° and V=3.488(1) A 3 . The distance between the two gold atoms (3.06 A) indicates a…
Statics and dynamics of weakly coupled antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 ladders in a magnetic field
2011
We investigate weakly coupled spin-1/2 ladders in a magnetic field. The work is motivated by recent experiments on the compound (C5H12N)2CuBr4 (BPCB). We use a combination of numerical and analytical methods, in particular the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) technique, to explore the phase diagram and the excitation spectra of such a system. We give detailed results on the temperature dependence of the magnetization and the specific heat, and the magnetic field dependence of the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation rate of single ladders. For coupled ladders, treating the weak interladder coupling within a mean-field or quantum Monte Carlo approach, we compute the transit…
Intraductal aspiration: a promising new tissue-sampling technique for the diagnosis of suspected malignant biliary strictures
2012
Brushing is the most commonly used technique for biliary sampling at ERCP, despite its limited sensitivity. To evaluate intraductal aspiration (IDA) as a new combined endoscopic technique for cytodiagnosis, its cellular adequacy, diagnostic accuracy for cancer detection, feasibility, and safety. Prospective, observational study. Single tertiary referral center. IDA cellular adequacy, diagnostic accuracy for cancer detection, feasibility, and safety. From April 2009 to September 2010, 42 consecutive patients with suspected malignant biliary stricture underwent ERCP, with tissue sampling obtained with IDA. IDA included performance of standard brushing in all patients. After standard brushing,…
