Redirected EBV-Specific Stem Cell-Memory and Central-Memory CD8+ T Lymphocytes Exhibit Effective and Sustained Antileukemic Immunity to Acute Myeloid…

2014

Abstract Introduction: Adoptive cellular therapy (ACT) of donor-derived cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTL) directed to leukemia or herpesvirus has proven promising to improve antiviral and antileukemic immunity in patients following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT). However, durable clinical responses are often hampered by detrimental graft-versus host (GvH) reactivity and limited persistence of transferred, fully differentiated antileukemic effector T cells (TEFF). We thus explored memory and tumoricidal features of in vitro generated EBV-specific stem cell-memory T cells (TSCM) and central-memory T (TCM) cells, T cell-receptor (TCR) redirected to primary acute myeloid…

Structural priming is supported by different components of nondeclarative memory: Evidence from priming across the lifespan

2017

Abstract Structural priming is the tendency to repeat syntactic structure across sentences and can be divided into short-term (prime to immediately following target) and long-term (across an experimental session) components. Current theories of structural priming propose that different memory systems support these components, however, this study investigates how non-declarative memory could support both the transient, short-term and the persistent, long-term structural priming effects commonly seen in the literature. We propose that these characteristics are supported by different subcomponents of non-declarative memory: Perceptual and conceptual non-declarative memory respectively. Previou…

Conflicting rationales: leader's experienced ethical challenges in community health care for older people.

2017

BACKGROUND Ethical challenges arise in all types of care, and leaders need to be aware of how to resolve these challenges. Healthcare systems tend to be organised around medical conditions, and the patient is often faced with a series of uncoordinated visits to multiple specialties. Ideally, care should be organised around the patient's needs. AIM The purpose of this article was to highlight some ethical challenges perceived by leaders with responsibility for management and service distribution, finance and ensuring quality of community health services for older people. METHOD This study had a qualitative design with a qualitative content analysis of one focus group with six leaders that me…

Does being a Stranger make it Difficult to Cooperate?

2017

AbstractCompetition and cooperation are two somewhat opposed strategies for interpersonal social interaction that help us to achieve both individual and shared goals. The main aim of this study was to explore which type of social interaction (cooperative or competitive) is more stressful in a face-to-face same-sex dyad in healthy young participants (n = 178), considering outcome obtained in these tasks (positive or negative) and sex as moderating variables, and performance of the task alone as a control condition. Salivary cortisol (Csal) was measured in one sample obtained before task and four obtained after the task (+0, +15, +30 and +45 minutes after). Anxiety-state was assessed before a…

Resilience Scale Psychometric Study. Adaptation to the Spanish Population in Nursing Students

2020

Nursing students and professionals are exposed to highly stressful clinical situations. However, when confronted with stress, which is exacerbated by academic and professional situations, there is a great disparity between those who do not know how to respond suitably to the demands from patients or teachers due to a lack of competence and personal resistance, and those who are more resilient and develop a greater range of strengths. This research aims to analyse the validity and psychometric characteristics of a questionnaire on resilience adapted to Spanish nursing bachelor’s degree students. The participants were 434 undergraduate nursing students from the province of Valencia (Spain) be…

Evaluation of ethical reflections in community healthcare: a mixed-methods study.

2014

Background: Ethical reflections over care practices are important. In order to be able to perform such reflections, healthcare professionals must learn to think critically about their care practice. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether an introduction to and practice in ethical reflections in community healthcare have consequences for the healthcare personnel’s practice. Research design: A mixed-methods design was adopted with five focus group interviews and an electronic questionnaire based on results from the interviews. Participants and research context: A total of 29 community healthcare personnel with experience in ethical reflections participated in the interviews. The e…

Izglītojamo sekmju analīzes platformas izstrāde

2017

Acute psychosocial stress effects on memory performance: Relevance of age and sex.

2018

In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in investigating the effects of chronic and acute stress on cognitive processes, especially memory performance. However, research focusing on acute stress effects has reported contradictory findings, probably due to the many factors that can moderate this relationship. In addition to factors related to the individual, such as sex and age, other factors, such as the type of memory assessed, can play a critical role in the direction of these effects. This review summarizes the main findings of our research group and others about the effects of acute psychosocial stress on memory performance in young and older people of both sexes, taking in…

A low cortisol response to acute stress is related to worse basal memory performance in older people

2014

Age-related memory decline has been associated with a faulty regulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA-axis). The aim of this study was to investigate whether the magnitude of the stress-induced cortisol increase is related to memory performance when memory is measured in non-stressful conditions. To do so, declarative and working memory performance were measured in 31 men and 35 women between 55 and 77 years of age. On a different day, the magnitude of their cortisol response to acute psychosocial stress was measured. The relationship between the cortisol response and memory performance was U shaped: a low cortisol response to stress was related to poorer declarative and w…
