Microstructuring of phospholipid bilayers on gold surfaces by micromolding in capillaries

Microstructuring of lipid bilayers on gold surfaces was achieved by micromolding in capillaries employing chemically modified polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Microfluidic networks of PDMS were prepared by micromolding and functionalized with thiol end-groups using 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane. The PDMS stamps were firmly attached to the gold substrate via quasi-covalent linkage providing a tight seal, a prerequisite for establishing individual addressable capillaries. Bilayers composed of POPC/POPG were subsequently prepared on microstructured self assembly monolayers of 11-amino-1-undecanethiol via strong electrostatic interactions. International audience; Structural, electronic and mechanical properties of ZnO/Graphene (ZnO/G) nanolaminates fabricated by low temperature atomic layer deposition (ALD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) were investigated. We performed scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM/TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), Raman spectroscopy, X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and nanoindentation to characterize the ZnO/G nanolaminates. Structure and dynamics of polyethylene/clay films

The relationships between structure and rheology of polyethylene/clay hybrid composite blown films were investigated through rheological tests both in shear and elongational flow. Two polymer matrices (low density polyethylene, LDPE and linear low density polyethylene, LLDPE) with different relaxation kinetics were used. Independently from the matrix, morphological analyses (TEM, XRD, and SEM) indicate that the hybrid structures are similarly constituted of delaminated platelets or tactoids having a relevant degree of orientation along the draw direction. Structural defects in Hg1−xCdxI2 layers grown on CdTe substrates by vapor phase epitaxy

Hg1−xCdxI2 20–25-μm-thick layers with a uniform composition in the range of x = 0.1–0.2 were grown on CdTe substrates by vapor phase epitaxy (VPE). The growth was carried out using an α-HgI2 polycrystalline source at 200 °C and in the time range of 30–100 h. The layers were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high resolution synchrotron x-ray topography (SXRT). The SEM and SXRT images of Hg1−xCdxI2 VPE layers allow one to identify the defects affecting the layer structure. Influence of Substrate Hydrophilicity on Structural Properties of Supported Lipid Systems on Graphene, Graphene Oxides, and Silica

Pristine graphene, a range of graphene oxides, and silica substrates were used to investigate the effect of surface hydrophilicity on supported lipid bilayers by means of all-atom molecular dynamics simulations. Supported 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine lipid bilayers were found in close-contact conformations with hydrophilic substrates with as low as 5% oxidation level, while self-assembled monolayers occur on pure hydrophobic graphene only. Lipids and water at the surface undergo large redistribution to maintain the stability of the supported bilayers. International audience; Nanopatterned thin films of the metal–organic framework {Fe(bpac)[Pt(CN)4]} (bpac=bis(4‐pyridyl)acetylene) are elaborated by the combination of a sequential assembly process and a lithographic method. Raman microspectroscopy is used to probe the temperature dependence of the spin state of the iron(II) ions in the films (40–90 nm in thickness), and reveals an incomplete but cooperative spin transition comparable to that of the bulk material. Adsorption/desorption of pyridine guest molecules is found to have a substantial influence on the spin‐crossover properties of the thin layers. N,N ′ -1 H ,1 H -perfl uorobutyl dicyanoperylenecarboxydiimide (PDIF-CN 2 ), a soluble and air stable n-type molecule, undergoes signifi cant reorganization upon thermal annealing after solution deposition on several substrates with different surface energies. Interestingly, this system exhibits an exceptional edge-on orientation regardless of the substrate chemistry. On the possibility of synthesizing multilayered coatings in the (Ti,Al)N system by RGPP: A microstructural study

International audience; Radiofrequency magnetron sputtering combined with reactive gas pulsing process was used to synthesize two titanium aluminum nitride multilayer films using a periodically controlled nitrogen flow rate changing from 0.4 to 1 sccm (sample S04-1) and from 0 to 1 sccm (sample S0-1). A metallic TiAl buffer layer was deposited on the etched substrates before the deposition to enhance their adhesion.
