Since the 1980s there have been a number of studies that investigate the use of computers in homes. Many of these focused on the adults or adolescents in the family. Few studies have focused on children, particularly those between the ages of five and twelve. If children of these ages were included in a study they were usually situated within a study of the family and its dynamics, and often their experiences were viewed through the eyes of the adults in the family. The study described in this paper is unique in that the children‘s perceptions, beliefs and practices were the major focus and the children themselves were the informants. The study investigated children‘s computer experiences w…

2020

The Latin American journals of psychology indexed in the Journal of Citation Reports (JCR), are generally edited by professional associations of psychologists, universities and private foundations. This paper analyzes the positioning strategy adopted by the Professional Association of Psychologists of Madrid, regarding the psychological journals in the area in which they edit. The methodological approach taken to explore the topic uses socio-bibliometric techniques gathering numerical data, and then using that data to perform analyses for a well-informed description of what the topic might be. The results reveal that journals, whose editor or co-editor was Professional Association of Psycho…

Spanish scientific production in literature through a gender perspective in the Web of Science (1975-2017)

2019

Gender inequality in directive bodies and scientific production on the Ibero-American psychology journals with greater international visibility

2018

Correction for Frantz et al., Ancient pigs reveal a near-complete genomic turnover following their introduction to Europe

2020

Significance Archaeological evidence indicates that domestic pigs arrived in Europe, alongside farmers from the Near East ∼8,500 y ago, yet mitochondrial genomes of modern European pigs are derived from European wild boars. To address this conundrum, we obtained mitochondrial and nuclear data from modern and ancient Near Eastern and European pigs. Our analyses indicate that, aside from a coat color gene, most Near Eastern ancestry in the genomes of European domestic pigs disappeared over 3,000 y as a result of interbreeding with local wild boars. This implies that pigs were not domesticated independently in Europe, yet the first 2,500 y of human-mediated selection applied by Near Eastern Ne…

Genomic Structure and in Vivo Expression of the Human Organic Anion Transporter 1 (hOAT1) Gene

2000

The human organic anion transporter 1 (hOAT1) plays a key role in the secretion of an array of potentially toxic organic anions including many clinically important drugs. Here we report on the genomic cloning of hOAT1. A human genomic library was used for screening of a PAC (P1 artificial chromosome) clone applying PCR techniques. Sequencing of several restriction subclones and of a PCR-generated clone revealed that the hOAT1 gene spans 8.2 kb and is composed of 10 exons divided by 9 introns. RT-PCR studies in a human kidney specimen led to the detection of two new splice variants, hOAT1-3 and hOAT1-4, showing a 132-bp in-frame deletion. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) we ma…

Serological identification and expression analysis of gastric cancer-associated genes

2002

Serological identification of tumour antigens by recombinant expression cloning has proved to be an effective strategy for the identification of cancer-associated genes having a relevance to cancer aetiology and progression, and for defining possible targets for immunotherapeutic intervention. In the present study we applied this technique to identify immunogenic proteins for gastric cancer that resulted in isolation of 14 distinct serum-reactive antigens. In order to evaluate their role in tumourigenesis and assess the immunogenicity of the identified antigens, we characterised each cDNA clone by DNA sequence analysis, mRNA tissue distribution, comparison of mRNA levels in cancerous and ad…

Goodpasture antigen-binding protein, the kinase that phosphorylates the goodpasture antigen, is an alternatively spliced variant implicated in autoim…

2000

The non-collagenous C-terminal domain of the alpha(3) chain of collagen IV is the autoantigen in Goodpasture disease, an autoimmune disorder described only in humans. Specific N-terminal phosphorylation is a biological feature unique to the human domain when compared with other homologous domains lacking immunopathogenic potential. We have recently cloned from a HeLa-derived cDNA library a novel serine/threonine kinase (Goodpasture antigen-binding protein (GPBP)) that phosphorylates the N-terminal region of the human domain (Raya, A. Revert, F, Navarro, S. and Saus J. (1999) J. Biol. Chem. 274, 12642-12649). We show here that the pre-mRNA of GPBP is alternatively spliced in human tissues an…
