Performance of chromatographic columns is of major importance in the development of more efficient separation methods. So far, a common practice is to study the column behavior in isocratic elution by modifying the flow rate and fitting the theoretical plate height values versus the mobile phase linear velocity, according to the Van Deemter equation. Nonstationary response envelope probability densities of nonlinear oscillators

The nonstationary random response of a class of lightly damped nonlinear oscillators subjected to Gaussian white noise is considered. An approximate analytical method for determining the response envelope statistics is presented. Within the framework of stochastic averaging, the procedure relies on the Markovian modeling of the response envelope process through the definition of an equivalent linear system with response-dependent parameters. One-dimensional nonlinear boundary value problems with variable exponent

In this paper, a class of nonlinear differential boundary value problems with variable exponent is investigated. The existence of at least one non-zero solution is established, without assuming on the nonlinear term any condition either at zero or at infinity. The approach is developed within the framework of the Orlicz-Sobolev spaces with variable exponent and it is based on a local minimum theorem for differentiable functions.

Fuzzy dynamic sliding mode control design for high order disturbed systems

In this paper, the problem of fuzzy dynamic sliding mode control design is investigated for a class of disturbed systems. Specifically, the fuzzy controller is constructed based on one feedback signal to estimate the unknown nonlinear terms and to develop the sliding mode control according to the fuzzy rules. Furthermore, it possesses the characteristic of simplicity in design and effectiveness in attenuating chattering. Finally, a numerical example is included to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantage of the proposed method.

In the paper three methods of determination of the expected fatigue fracture plane position under random triaxial stress state have been presented. They are: weight function method, variance method and damage cumulation method. The weight function method for biaxial cyclic loadings has been analysed with digital simulation. Nonlinear elliptic equations with asymmetric asymptotic behavior at $pminfty$

We consider a nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Dirichlet problem with reaction which is asymptotically superlinear at $+infty$ and sublinear at $-infty$. Using minimax methods together with suitable truncation techniques and Morse theory, we show that the problem has at least three nontrivial solutions one of which is negative.
