Mössbauer Spectroscopy: Elegance and versatility in chemical diagnostics
2010
Dedicated to Professor Rudolf Ludwig Mossbauer on the occasion of his 80th birthday . Soon after the discovery of the recoilless nuclear resonance fluorescence by Rudolf L. Mossbauer some fifty years ago a new spectroscopic technique developed quickly on the basis of this resonance phenomenon as an excellent tool for the investigation of materials through electric and magnetic hyperfine interactions between electrons and suitable Mo uml ssbauer nu-clides. Many disciplines of solid state research have benefited from applications of the new tool for non-destructive phase analysis. Chemists in particular have recognized the information that can be derived from Mo uml ssbauer spectra regarding …
Guest Induced Strong Cooperative One- and Two-Step Spin Transitions in Highly Porous Iron(II) Hofmann-Type Metal-Organic Frameworks.
2017
[EN] The synthesis, crystal structure, magnetic, calorimetric, and Mo¿ ssbauer studies of a series of new Hofmann-type spin crossover (SCO) metal¿organic frameworks (MOFs) is reported. The new SCO-MOFs arise from self-assembly of FeII, bis(4-pyridyl)butadiyne (bpb), and [Ag(CN)2] ¿ or [MII(CN)4] 2¿ (MII = Ni, Pd). Interpenetration of four identical 3D networks with ¿-Po topology are obtained for {Fe(bpb)[AgI (CN)2]2} due to the length of the rod-like bismonodentate bpb and [Ag(CN)2] ¿ ligands. The four networks are tightly packed and organized in two subsets orthogonally interpenetrated, while the networks in each subset display parallel interpenetration. This nonporous material undergoes a…
Application of 61Ni Mössbauer spectroscopy to chemical problems
1996
Using the possibility to produce 61Co sources at the MAinz MIcrotron, 61Ni Mossbauer spectroscopy was applied to different kinds of chemical problems. Measurements of isomer shifts and V zz values in some common compounds and compounds with unusual chemical bonding for comparison with band structure calculations, measurement of 61Ni Mossbauer parameters in model compounds for hydrogenase and dehydrogenase with an active [NiS4] centre, and study of novel binary NiF3 compounds at helium temperature are presented.
Synthesis and characterization of bis[dicarboxylatotetraorganodistannoxane] units involving 5-[(E)-2-(aryl)-1-diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoic acids: an in…
2006
Abstract Reactions of 5-[(E)-2-(aryl)-1-diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoic acids (LHH′, where the aryl group is an R-substituted phenyl ring such that for L1HH′: R = H; L2HH′: R = 2′-CH3; L3HH′: R = 3′-CH3; L4HH′: R = 4′-CH3; L5HH′: R = 4′-Cl; L6HH′: R = 4′-Br) with nBu2SnO in a 1:1 molar ratio yielded complexes of composition {[nBu2Sn(LH)]2O}2. The complexes have been characterized by 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR, ESI-MS, IR and 119mSn Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with elemental analyses. The crystal structures of {[nBu2Sn(L1H)]2O}2 (1), {[nBu2Sn(L4H)]2O}2 (4), {[nBu2Sn(L5H)]2O}2 (5) and {[nBu2Sn(L6H)]2O}2 (6) were determined. The compounds are centrosymmetric tetranuclear bis(dicarboxy…
Rock paintings from Minas Gerais, Brasil, investigated by in-situ Mössbauer spectroscopy
2002
The archaeological site of Santana do Riacho is located at about 90 km northeastern of Belo Horizonte, in the “Serra do Cipo” region. The recent development of a miniaturised Mossbauer spectrometer opened the possibility of making in-situ measurements of the rock paitings, and the results of such pioneer work is presented in this contribution. The spectrometer MIMOS II operates in backscattering geometry measuring the scattered 14.41 keV Mossbauer radiation and the 6.4 keV Fe X-rays. The dimensions of the whole instrument are approximately 110 mm (long) × 80 mm (diameter). The paintings were selected based on their colours and apparent thickness, and six spots were measured. The analysis of…
In-situ Mössbauer Spectroscopy with MIMOS II at Rio Tinto, Spain
2010
The Rio Tinto, located in southwest Spain, exhibits a nearly constant, acidic pHvalue along its course. Due to the formation of sulfate minerals, Rio Tinto is considered a potential analogue site for sulfate-rich regions on Mars, in particular at the landing site of the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity, where the ferric sulfate mineral jarosite was identified with Opportunity's Mössbauer spectrometer. Primary and secondary mineralogy was investigated in situ with portable Raman and Mössbauer spectrometers at four different Rio Tinto sampling sites. The two techniques analyse different sample portions due to their specific field of view and sampling depth and provide complementar…
The first authenticated example of triorganotin(IV) perchlorate complexes of some heterocyclic bases
1993
Abstract A convenient method is reported for the synthesis of some novel complexes of composition (R 3 SnL 2 ) ClO 4 where L represents pyridine, γ-picoline, 2,2′-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline; and R n Bu or Ph. All of the new ionic complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, infrared, multinuclear nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H, 13 C and 119 Sn) and 119 Sn Mossbauer spectroscopies. The complexes of composition (R 3 SnL 2 )ClO 4 exist both in solution and in the solid state with trans -trigonal bipyramidal structure where the R-groups occupy the equatorial positions while the ligands are in the axial position.
Synthesis of diorganotin(IV) complexes with nucleosides and their Characterization by Mössbauer and infrared spectroscopy
1984
Abstract A number of new complexes of R 2 Sn IV with adenosine, guanosine, inosine, cytidine and uridine were synthesized by reaction of ribonucleosides with diorganotin oxide in hot methanol. The complexes were characterized by infrared and 119 Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy as O(2′), O(3′) (diorganostannylene) nucleosides; the occurence of dimers with three-co-ordinate oxygen atoms is inferred on the basis of spectroscopic data.
Complexes of organometallic compounds. XLVI. Synthesis of adducts formed by organotin(IV) trichlorides with 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane, and the…
1977
Abstract Adducts between RSnCl 3 (R = Me, Bu n , Oct n , Ph) and 1,2-bisz(diphenylphosphino)ethane, DPE, have 1:1 composition. In Mossbauer spectroscopic experiences at variable absorber temperature the area under the resonant peaks, A, has been measured for RSnCl 3 ·DPE, R = Me, Ph; slopes plots of in A vs. T suggest strong coupling between Mossbauer atoms, which has been interpreted in terms of solid state polymeric structures, due to DPE acting as a bridging bis-monodentate ligand. Infrared data indicate the covalency of SnCl bonds. Three possible structural isomers of octahedral type are then proposed, one having trans -P 2 and two cis -P 2 atoms. A choice between these structures has …
6-Thiopurine complexes of organotin(IV) moieties. Synthesis and structural characterization by infrared and Mössbauer spectroscopy
1982
Abstract The novel complexes Me3Sn(6-TP−1) and Bun2Sn(6-TP−1)2, where 6-TP−1 is the mono-anion of 6-thiopurine, have been synthesized. The sites of stannylation of 6-TP have been inferred from the known directions of electrophilic substitution reactions of 6-TP itself. The compounds have been characterized by infrared and Mossbauer spectroscopy. A solid state polymeric structure has been proposed for Me3Sn(6-TP−1), where planar SnC3 skeletons are bridged by 6-TP−1 (thione tautomer) axially bound to Sn through N(3) and N(1) atoms. For Bun2Sn(6-TP−1)2, a molecular structure has been advanced, with the ‘aromatic’ ligand anions chelating Sn by S-N(7) atoms.
