1H and 13C NMR Measurements of Dimethylchloroformiminium Chloride and Dimethylformamide Hydrochloride

Dual proton and carbon-13 NMR spectra of dimethylchloroformiminium chloride 1 and dimethylformamide hydrochloride 2 in CDCl3 at different temperatures have been measured and the results compared to proton NMR data of dimethyl formamide 3. The energy barriers of internal rotation about C-N bond in 1 and 2 were considerably lower than that of 3. The values of E were 39.3 for 1, 55.9 for 2 and (lit. value) 89.3 for 3 (in kJ/mole).

The cationic nitronyl nitroxide free radical of the N-methylpyridinium type p-MepyNN + has been combined with [Mo 8 0 26 ] 4- and Keggin [SiW 12 0 40 ] 4- polyanions to afford salts ( p-MepyNN) 4 [Mo 8 0 26 ] DMSO (DMSO = dimethylsulfoxide) (1) and (p-MepyNN)4[SiW 12 0 40 ] 6DMF (DMF = dimethylformamide) (2). Herein, their structural and magnetic properties are described.
First measurement of helicity-dependent cross sections in π0η photoproduction from quasi-free nucleons

The helicity-dependent cross sections for the photoproduction of $\pi^0\eta$ pairs have been measured for the first time. The experiment was performed at the tagged photon facility of the Mainz MAMI accelerator with the combined Crystal Ball - TAPS calorimeter. The experiment used a polarized deuterated butanol target and a circularly polarized photon beam. This arrangement allowed the $\sigma_{1/2}$ (photon and target spin antiparallel) and $\sigma_{3/2}$ (parallel spins) components to be measured for quasi-free production of $\pi^0\eta$ pairs off protons and neutrons. The title complex, [UO2(C5H7O2)2(C3H7NO)], was obtained as an unexpected product from our attempts to prepare UIV complexes with imine-type ligands. The title complex was also prepared directly from [UO2(OAc)2]·2H2O, pentane-2,4-dione and DMF. The UVI atom has a pentagonal-bipyramidal geometry and is surrounded by seven O atoms. The bond distances and angles are similar to those found previously in similar structures.

The reduction of NBT to formazan has been suggested as an indicator of the reduction potential of biological systems. An increase in the amount of reduced formazan reflects the activation of the hexose monophosphate shunt of phagocytes cultivated in vitro, as a result of cellular stimulation by chemical or biological factors, or during phagocytosis. This phenomenon has been widely used for the determination of activated phagocytes by different methods. However, the technical limitations of these methods have not been evaluated carefully. The acridine and phenanthridine hydroperoxides 3 and 7 were synthesized as photochemical hydroxyl radical sources for oxidative DNA damage studies. The generation of hydroxyl radicals upon UVA irradiation (lambda = 350 nm) was verified by trapping experiments with 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide and benzene. The enzymatic assays of the damage in cell-free DNA from bacteriophage PM2 caused by the acridine and phenanthridine hydroperoxides 3 and 7 under near-UVA irradiation revealed a wide range of DNA modifications. Photobiological activities of the benzo-spaced psoralen analog furonaphthopyranone 3 have been investigated in cell-free and cellular DNA. The molecular geometry parameters of 3 suggest that it should not form interstrand crosslinks with DNA. With cell-free DNA no evidence for crosslinking but also not for monoadduct formation was obtained; rather, the unnatural furocoumarin 3 induces oxidative DNA modifications under near-UVA irradiation. The enzymatic assay of the photosensitized damage in cell-free PM2 DNA revealed the significant formation of lesions sensitive to formamidopyrimidine DNA glycosylase (Fpg protein). Subpicosecond transient signal spectroscopy of Prodan in dimethylformamide solution.

We report a pump-probe experiment revealing the temporal evolution of subpicosecond evolution of Prodan's excited-state absorption in dimethylformamide. Also, we present calculation of the first spectral moment of this spectral band and estimation of different relaxation components on the subpicosecond time scale.
Coherent photoproduction of η-mesons off 3He – search for η-mesic nuclei

Coherent photoproduction of $\eta$-mesons off $^3$He, i.e. the reaction $\gamma ^3{He}\rightarrow \eta ^3{He}$, has been investigated in the near-threshold region. The experiment was performed at the Glasgow tagged photon facility of the Mainz MAMI accelerator with the combined Crystal Ball - TAPS detector. Angular distributions and the total cross section were measured using the $\eta\rightarrow \gamma\gamma$ and $\eta\rightarrow 3\pi^0\rightarrow 6\gamma$ decay channels. The observed extremely sharp rise of the cross section at threshold and the behavior of the angular distributions are evidence for a strong $\eta {^3{He}}$ final state interaction, pointing to the existence of a resonant …
