Support effect on the catalytic performance of Au/Co3O4–CeO2 catalysts for CO and CH4 oxidation

Gold-based catalysts supported on Co3O4, on CeO2 and on mixed Co3O4-CeO2 oxides were prepared by co-precipitation. They were tested in the catalytic oxidation of CO and CH4, in separate tests, and their activities were compared with that of the bare oxides. Tests of CH4 oxidation were performed in two consecutive runs in order to evaluate the catalysts stability. The effect of SO2 in the reactant mixture was investigated. The fresh and spent catalysts were analsed by XRD, BET, TPR and XPS techniques. Among the fresh catalysts, Au supported on CeO2 was the most active in CO oxidation whereas Au supported on Co3O4 was the most active for methane total oxidation. Synergy between the two oxides…

Abstract The chemoselective reaction of (2R, 3R)-3-methylamino-3-phenyl-1,2-propanediol 1 with dimethoxypropane and dichloromethane under different conditions are reported as useful preparative procedures, for the synthesis 1,3-oxazolidines and 1,3-dioxolanes.

La cyclopolymerisation du dimethacrylate de dihydroxy-2,2′-dimethyl-5,5′-diphenylmethane (II) a ete realisee en milieu benzene a 80° avec l'azobisisobutyronitrile comme amorceur, en milieu toluene a −500°C avec le butyllithium comme amorceur et en tetrahydrofuranne (THF) avec le naphthalene sodium. Trimethylsilyldiazomethane in the presence of catalytic amounts of Sc(OTf) 3 smoothly promotes the ring expansion of isatins or imino isatins to efficiently afford 3-functionalized quinolin-2-ones through controlled ring enlargement. Whereas the ring-expansion reaction of azetidine-2,3-diones led to the adduct resulting from migration of the carbonyl group, the ring-expansion reaction of oxindole derivatives gave the adduct resulting from migration of the aryl group. To rationalize the experimental observations, theoretical studies have been performed. The non-selective methylation of compounds 3a-d using ethereal diazomethane, allowed the synthesis of isomers 4 and 5 which were useful intermediates for the preparation, by a simple approach, of the title compounds 7 and 9. A complete assignment of the chemical shifts to the carbon atoms of the compounds 7 and 9 was performed by different nmr experiments, such as DEPT and XHDEPT for onebond CH correlations and COLOC experiments for long-range C-H correlations.

The rate constants for the esterification of some 3-, 4-, and 5-substituted thiophene-2-carboxylic acids with diazodiphenylmethane in methanol at 25° have been measured. The reactivity of some para- and ortho-substituted benzoic acids has also been determined. Logarithmic kinetic constants for ortho-, meta-, and para-like substituted thiophene-2-carboxylic acids furnish an excellent linear free energy relationship when plotted versus Δpka (β 0.89, r 0.989, C.L. > 99.9%, n 18, i 0.04), thus confirming the peculiar behaviour of five-membered ring derivatives.
