Characterization of the Carbapenem-Hydrolyzing Oxacillinase Oxa-58 in an Acinetobacter Genospecies 3 Clinical Isolate

2008

ABSTRACT Based on imipenem resistance in an Acinetobacter genospecies 3 clinical isolate, we were able to identify, for the first time in this genomic species, a plasmid-encoded bla OXA-58 gene that was 100% homologous to the same gene in Acinetobacter baumannii .

ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in a University hospital: Molecular features, diffusion of epidemic clones and evaluation of cross-transmission.

2021

The worldwide spread of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL-Kp) is a significant threat. Specifically, various pandemic clones of ESBL-Kp are involved in hospital outbreaks and caused serious infections. In that context, we assessed the phenotypic and molecular features of a collection of ESBL-Kp isolates in a French university hospital and evaluated the occurrence of potential cross-transmissions. Over a 2-year period (2017–2018), 204 non-duplicate isolates of ESBL-Kp were isolated from clinical (n = 118, 57.8%) or screening (n = 86, 42.2%) sample cultures. These isolates were predominantly resistant to cotrimoxazole (88.8%) and ofloxacin (82.8%) but remaine…

Probable disseminated Mycobacterium abscessus subspecies bolletii infection in a patient with idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia: a case report.

2012

Abstract Introduction Rapidly growing mycobacteria are opportunistic pathogens in patients with underlying risk factors. Mycobacterium abscessus subsp. bolletii is a newly recognized member of rapidly growing mycobacteria, isolated from respiratory tract and cutaneous infections. Case presentation We describe a case of chronic disseminated infection caused by M. abscessus subsp. bolletii in a 38-year-old Sri Lankan man with idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia. Idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia is a rare cause of immunodysfunction that, similar to human immunodeficiency virus infection, causes a depletion of CD4+ T lymphocytes. M. abscessus subsp. bolletii infection was diagnosed by culture is…

Aeromonas hydrophila subsp. dhakensis Isolated from Feces, Water and Fish in Mediterranean Spain

2012

Eight Aeromonas hydrophila-like arabinose-negative isolates from diverse sources (i.e., river freshwater, cooling-system water pond, diseased wild European eels, and human stools) sampled in Valencia (Spain) during 2004–2005, were characterized by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and extensive biochemical testing along with reference strains of most Aeromonas species. These isolates and all reference strains of A. hydrophila subsp. dhakensis and A. aquariorum showed a 16S rRNA sequence similarity of 99.8–100%, and they all shared an identical phenotype. This matched exactly with that of A. hydrophila subsp. dhakensis since all strains displayed positive responses to the Voges-Prokauer test and to t…

Comparative study on the inhibition of Na+, K+-activated ATPase activity by chlorpromazine, promazine, imipramine, and their monodesmethyl metabolites

1972

The inhibition of the sodium- and potassium-activated adenosine triphosphatase (Na-K-ATPase, EC 3.6.1.3) activity by chlorpromazine, promazine and imipramine was compared with that by the monodesmethyl metabolites of these drugs. The experiments were performed with a deoxycholate- and sodium iodide-treated microsomal enzyme preparation from rat brain. It was shown in dose-response curves as well as in double-reciprocal Lineweaver-Burk plots of Na-K-ATPase activity against KCl concentration that the monodesmethyl metabolites were stronger inhibitors than their parent compounds. The results obtained with the desmethyl metabolites and imipramine as inhibitors indicate competitive inhibition wh…

Automated Determination of Paroxetine and Its Main Metabolite by Column Switching and On-Line High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

1994

An automated column-switching method coupled to isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography has been developed for simultaneous determination of blood levels of paroxetine and its nonconjugated main metabolite BRL 36610. The lower limits of detection were 9-15 nmol/L (3-5 ng/ml) and linearity between drug concentration and detector response was found for 0-1,500 nmol/L (0-500 ng/ml). The method could be applied to the analysis of serum samples obtained from depressed patients who were treated with daily oral doses of 20 or 40 mg of paroxetine. After the 20-mg dose, the mean blood level of paroxetine was 69 nM (23 ng/ml), whereas the metabolite BRL 36610 was detectable in only one of 5 …

Neurotrophic Properties of Silexan, an Essential Oil from the Flowers of Lavender-Preclinical Evidence for Antidepressant-Like Properties.

2020

Abstract Background Silexan, a special essential oil from flowering tops of lavandula angustifolia, is used to treat subsyndromal anxiety disorders. In a recent clinical trial, Silexan also showed antidepressant effects in patients suffering from mixed anxiety-depression (ICD-10 F41.2). Since preclinical data explaining antidepressant properties of Silexan are missing, we decided to investigate if Silexan also shows antidepressant-like effects in vitro as well as in vivo models. Methods We used the forced swimming test (FST) in rats as a simple behavioral test indicative of antidepressant activity in vivo. As environmental events and other risk factors contribute to depression through conve…

El método del caso como herramienta de aprendizaje activo en arqueología

2021

[EN] The case study, like other methodologies that enhance the active participation of the students, greatly favours the teaching-learning process. Here we present the design, application and results of the cases implemented in two Archaeology subjects (History Degree, University of Valencia). Within the framework of a Teaching Innovation Project (METARQ), we have implemented, in six different groups, two cases related to two subjects: Archaeological Methodology (3rd year-2nd semester, three groups) and Mediterranean Archaeology (4th year-1st semester, three groups). Both the learning results and the general opinion of the students were very positive. In addition, the application of this po…

Contribution to the knowledge of North-American species Hyperomyzus subgenus Neonasonovia (Aphididae, Aphidinae, Macrosiphini)

2017

American specimens of the Hyperomyzus subgenus Neonasonovia conserved in the collections of the Museum national d’Histoire naturelle (Paris, France) and the Natural History Museum (London, United Kingdom), have been studied. Data to complement previous descriptions of apterous and alate viviparous females of H. nabali and of apterous viviparae of H. nigricornis, H. inflatus, H. niger and H. pullatus , are presented. Apterous and alate virginogeniae females of H. nigricornis, alate viviparous females of H. inflatus, H. niger and H. pullatus, plus oviparous females of H. nabali , are described for the first time. The morphological and biological variability of H. pullatus is discussed. An ide…
