Possible light-induced superconductivity in K3C60 at high temperature.

2015

The non-equilibrium control of emergent phenomena in solids is an important research frontier, encompassing effects such as the optical enhancement of superconductivity. Nonlinear excitation of certain phonons in bilayer copper oxides was recently shown to induce superconducting-like optical properties at temperatures far greater than the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. This effect was accompanied by the disruption of competing charge-density-wave correlations, which explained some but not all of the experimental results. Here we report a similar phenomenon in a very different compound, K3C60. By exciting metallic K3C60 with mid-infrared optical pulses, we induce a large increas…

Implementing the environmental dimension of the EU’s urban agenda 2014-2020. The strategy for sustainable development in the medium-sized cities of W…

2019

This work illustrates the planning experience carried out Sustainable Urban Development (SSUD), whose general objectives are strengthening territorial cohesion and to increase accessibility to the local resources. The SSUD action plan, being funded with around 70 millions euro, through which such objectives can be better achieved and reciprocally integrated. After a brief description of the territory targeted by the concept within the broader debate on sustainable mobility. In section 3, a series of evidences are provided to identify the demand and potential for the development the fourth section, after describing the expceted results is suggested why in this area a greenway is the better s…

A framework for defining a sustainability rating system for railway track-beds

2017

Railways perform a significant role in the transportation system and they have relevant environmental, economic and social impacts. They are currently engineered optimizing every singular aspect rather than considering a broader system for improving the sustainability of the overall infrastructure. Thus, it is necessary to promote an effort to define a global sustainability framework for conceiving the design, construction and management of railway infrastructure. The Sustainable Rating System (SRS) proposed in this paper is a tool under development that evaluates different alternatives of railway track-bed structure. Inspired by similar efforts in the field of road engineering such as Gree…

Management of intelligent transport systems applied to sustainable development of motor vehicle transports

2021

The scientific paper presents a concrete research carried out by the authors in order to implement technical concepts, so that those interested in this field can learn about a certain way of exposing the problems with regard to the sustainable development of road transport. The use of computer means in the field of motor vehicle transport have taken on a special magnitude in recent times, and the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), also known as telematics systems used in the field of transport, comprise a wide range of tools and services deriving from ITS technologies, by using communications and information technology. Below we present a technical and managerial study with engineering nu…

2021

The scientific paper presents a concrete research carried out by the authors in order to implement some concepts of a technical nature, so that those interested in this field can get acquainted about a certain way of exposing the problems regarding the actions taken by the European authorities, regarding the implementation of electric vehicles at the level of some EU states, in the context of the sustainable and durable development of the European road transport system. Below we present a technical and managerial study with engineering nuances, through which readers can look at and understand the concept of sustainable development of this sector in a global context, through which we will de…

Contribution to the Sustainability Challenges of the Food-Delivery Sector: Finding from the Deliveroo Italy Case Study

2020

The food delivery sector is assuming increasing importance in the distribution of food products and meals as it is becoming an ordinary component of consumption habits. However, the growth of the sector has inevitably affected the demand for freight transport, especially in urban areas. The aim of this study was to investigate the main enabling factors affecting the adoption of sustainable strategies, among which the electro-mobility, in the food delivery sector and what obstacles to dissemination can be seen. Deliveroo s.r.l. was chosen as case study. Results show that Deliveroo undoubtedly represents a good example of sustainable logistics and the dissemination of good practices among the…

Urban landscapes in transformation: from a case study to the Biennal of the Cities in the world

2019

In this study we will talk about "Countless Cities" – the Biennial of the Cities of the World – an event/exhibition where urban planning and architecture are discussed and the urban landscape in the transformation of different cities around the world is analysed in greater depth. The meetings take place in Favara, a small town in the Sicilian hinterland, in the province of Agrigento, which – through collective participation, the support of institutions, cultural associations and the sensitivity of the local government – is investing heavily in the theme of urban regeneration and re‐cycling, thereby reacting positively to the ecological and economic crisis that has pervaded our cities.

URBAN LANDSCAPES IN TRANSFORMATION : FROM A CASE STUDY TO THE BIENNIAL OF THE CITIES IN THE WORLD

2019

Sustainability, quality of life and creativity are all paths to be followed in the urban transformation processes of the cities of the future. Urban regeneration interventions must aim to form new vital phases within degraded or poorly used urban systems (such as historical centres, suburbs, decommissioned industrial areas, disused railway and port areas, former barracks, etc.). In cities today it is already possible to generate renewed urban landscapes through processes of recovery, creative reuse of abandoned sites, and urban re-cycling, as new and powerful forces of city revitalization. Re-cycling cities mean generating more sustainable, more responsible but also more innovative urban ce…

The Changing City. Good Practices of Resilience and Sustainability

2019

The global crisis that has been assailing our planet at different levels - social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental - has created constant change in the quality of life in our cities. Unfortunately, cities are increasingly vulnerable and characterized by insecurity, uncertainty, and unpredictability due to past mistakes. This is why, urban planning is called upon today to satisfy the new needs of the community through a planning that must adapt to change. In this scenario, urban centers must re-examine their governance in order to ensure a high quality of life and the responsible management of territorial resources as well as, their strategies for expansion and transformatio…

The vehicle as a source and consumer of information : collection, dissemination and data processing for sustainable mobility

2014

Today, vehicles have become more sophisticated, intelligent and connected. Indeed, they are equipped with sensors, radars, GPS, communication interfaces and high processing and storage capacities. They can collect, process and communicate information related to their working conditions and their environment forming a vehicular network. The incorporation of communication technologies on vehicles garnered a huge attention of industry, government authorities and standardizations organizations and opened the way for innovative applications that revolutionized the automotive market with the main goals to ensure safety on roads, increase transport efficiency and provide comfort to drivers and pas…
