A Tetracopper(II)-Tetraradical Cuboidal Core and Its Reactivity as a Functional Model of Phenoxazinone Synthase

2007

The coordination chemistry of the tridentate ligand N-(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-2-aminobenzylalcohol H3L has been studied with the copper(II) ion. The ligand is noninnocent in the sense that it is readily oxidized in the presence of air to its o-iminobenzosemiquinonato [L*]2- radical form. The crystal structure of the synthesized tetracopper(II)-tetraradical complex [CuII4(L*)4] (1), has been determined by X-ray crystallography at 100 K. Variable-temperature (2-290 K) magnetic susceptibility measurements of complex 1 containing eight paramagnetic centers establish the spin ground state to be diamagnetic (St=0) arising from the antiferromagnetic interactions. Electrochemical measur…

Elastic torsion effects in magnetic nanoparticle diblock-copolymer structures

2011

Magnetic properties of thin composite films, consisting of non-interacting polystyrene-coated γ-Fe(2)O(3) (maghemite) nanoparticles embedded into polystyrene-block-polyisoprene P(S-b-I) diblock-copolymer films are investigated. Different particle concentrations, ranging from 0.7 to 43 wt%, have been used. The magnetization measured as a function of external field and temperature shows typical features of anisotropic superparamagnets including a hysteresis at low temperatures and blocking phenomena. However, the data cannot be reconciled with the unmodified Stoner-Wohlfarth-Néel theory. Applying an appropriate generalization we find evidence for either an elastic torque being exerted on the …

Ultramorphology and dentine permeability changes induced by prophylactic procedures on exposed dentinal tubules in middle dentine

2010

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in dentinal permeability (i.e. hydraulic conductance) after prophylactic treatments performed using prophy-powders with air-polishing system or prophy-pastes on exposed middle dentine. The changes in dentine morphology were evaluated by SEM. Study design: Commercial prophylactic pastes and air-polishing powders were tested in this study. Dentine discs from human third molars were used to study the quantitative reduction of the dentine permeability under simulated pulpal pressure (20 cm H 2O). Further specimens were gold-coated and analysed using observed a SEM. Results: The results of this study showed different dentine perme…

Confined growth of cyanide-based magnets in two dimensions

2010

Herein we report the first hybrid magnetic material resulting from the intercalation of a cyanide-based molecular magnet into a solid-state layered host. More specifically, the use of a diamagnetic cationic Zn(II)-Al(lII) layered double hydroxide host allows for the formation of an anionic two-dimensional ferromagnetic Ni(II)-Cr(III) Prussian Blue analogue, from the templated assembly of its ionic molecular components in the confined interlamellar space offered by the inorganic host.

Dinuclear Iron(II) Spin Crossover Compounds: Singular Molecular Materials for Electronics

2006

Dinuclear spin crossover molecules can adopt three different spin-pair states: a fully diamagnetic low spin state, [LS–LS], with both iron(II) atoms in the LS state; a paramagnetic mixed spin-pair state [LS–HS]; and an antiferromagnetically coupled [HS–HS] state. Stabilisation of the [LS–HS] state depends on a subtle balance between intra- and inter-molecular interactions in the solid state, consequently, the thermal dependence of the physical and structural properties can present one-step or two-step spin transitions. The former case involves the [LS–LS] ↔ [HS–HS] transformation while in the latter case the intermediate stage responsible for the plateau, at 50% conversion between the two s…

Synthesis, molecular and electronic structures of a paramagnetic trimetallic cluster containing an unusual Mo3(μ3-Se)2(μ-Se)3 core

2014

Abstract The electron precise [Mo3(μ3-Se)(μ-Se)3(dppe)3Br3]+ incomplete cuboidal complex, with six cluster skeletal electrons (CSE), was converted into the paramagnetic bicapped [Mo3(μ3-Se)2(μ-Se)3(dppe)3]+ cluster (1+), with an unusual seven metal electron population, by treatment with elemental Ga. The cluster core consists of an almost equilateral Mo3 triangle (Mo–Mo distances are in the range 2.7583(7)–2.7748(7) A with an average value of 2.77(3) A), capped by two selenide ligands. The remaining selenium atoms bridge adjacent metal atoms, defining a virtually planar Mo3(μ-Se)3 unit, with the capping Se atoms positioned above and below this plane. The new complex possesses a doublet grou…

A Bis(diazadiene) Adduct of MoCl 2 : Mononuclear, Octahedral, Undistorted and Diamagnetic

2004

The complex [MoCl2(iPr2dad)2] (iPr2dad = iPrN=CH−CH=N−iPr) is obtained in one step by reduction of [MoCl3(THF)3] in the presence of iPr2dad. The X-ray structure reveals a relatively undistorted octahedral coordination geometry with a relative cis configuration and points to a more appropriate description of the ligands as enediamides. The NMR investigation is in agreement with the same cis structure in solution and underlines the diamagnetism of the compound, at odds with previously reported very similar complexes. A bulk magnetic susceptibility measurement further confirms the compound’s diamagnetism. No equilibrium with a dinuclear, metal-metal bonded species is apparent from the solution…

Mo 3 Q 7 (Q = S, Se) Clusters Containing Dithiolate/Diselenolate Ligands: Synthesis, Structures, and Their Use as Precursors of Magnetic Single‐Compo…

2013

The coordination chemistry of dithiolene and diselenolene ligands towards the all-selenium [Mo3Se7Br6]2– dianion has been investigated. Complexes (nBu4N)2[Zn(dmit)2] (dmit = 1,3-dithia-2-thioxo-4,5-dithiolate) and (nBu4N)2[Zn(dsit)2] (dsit = 1,3-dithia-2-thioxo-4,5-diselenolate) were employed as ligand precursors. The (nBu4N)2[Zn(dmit)2] complex in acetonitrile at reflux showed unexpected reactivity with [Mo3Se7Br6]2– dianion in which the inner Se atoms were replaced by S (all but the μ3-Se atom) to afford a series of mixed chalcogen [Mo3Se7–xSx(dmit)3]2– (x = 0–6) dianions. Reaction of the [Mo3S4Se3Br6]2– dianion with (nBu4N)2[Zn(dmit)2] under similar conditions also produced a mixed dmit-…

Touching the upper limit for ferromagnetic interactions in hetero-bridged dinuclear [Cu-2(II)] complexes using a novel N-5-dinucleating ligand bearin…

2012

A novel N-5-dinucleating ligand 4-amino-3,5-bis(bipyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole allows the preparation for the first time, and under mild conditions, of single and mixed amido(R-NH-)-bridged copper(II) complexes, the latter exhibiting very strong ferromagnetic coupling.

Diamagnetic susceptibility from a nonadiabatic path-integral simulation of few-electron systems

2022

Diamagnetism is the response of dynamical compositions of charged particles, electrons, and nuclei, to an incident magnetic field. In this paper, we study how the finite temperature and finite nuclear masses affect the diamagnetic susceptibilities of selected small atoms and molecules, as limiting cases of dilute gas. We use nonrelativistic path-integral Monte Carlo simulation (PIMC), where both electrons and nuclei are treated on equal footing at finite temperatures in sampling exact Coulomb pair density matrices. The PIMC estimator of diamagnetic susceptibility has been briefly introduced in Ceperley [D. M. Ceperley, Rev. Mod. Phys. 67, 279 (1995)], but here we present a comprehensive der…
