Synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic properties of M(II)Cu(II) chains (M = Mn and Co) with sterically hindered alkyl-substituted phenyloxamate …

2011

A series of neutral oxamato-bridged heterobimetallic chains of general formula [MCu(L(x)2 (S)2] · p S · q H2O [p = 0-1, q = 0-2.5; L1 = N-2,6-dimethylphenyloxamate, S = DMF with M = Mn (1a) and Co (1b); L2 = N-2,6-diethylphenyloxamate, S = DMF with M = Mn (2a) and Co (2b) or S = DMSO with M = Mn (2c) and Co (2 d); L3 = N-2,6-diisopropylphenyloxamate, S = DMF with M = Mn (3a) and Co (3b) or S = DMSO with M = Mn (3c) and Co (3d)] were prepared by treating the corresponding anionic oxamatocopper(II) complexes [Cu(L(x))(2)]2- (x = 1-3) with M(2+) cations (M = Mn and Co) in DMF or DMSO as the solvent. The single-crystal X-ray structures of 2a and 3a reveal the occurrence of well-isolated, zigzag…

Bis[(trimethylsilyl)methyl]manganese: Structural Variations of Its Solvent-Free and TMEDA-, Pyridine-, and Dioxane-Complexed Forms

2009

First synthesized in 1976 and recently taking on a new significance as a key precursor to heterobimetallic alkali-metal-manganese(II) complexes, bis[(trimethylsilyl)methyl] manganese has been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. It forms a polymeric chain structure of formula [{Mn(CH2SiMe3)(2)}(infinity)], 1, in which distorted tetrahedral, spiro Mn atoms are linked together via mu(2)-bonding alkyl ligands. The structure is notable for displaying two distinct categories of Mn-C bond lengths with a mean size differential of 0.225 angstrom and for being the first fully crystallographically characterized polymeric manganese(II) dialkyl compound. Magnetic measurements of 1 indic…

The Effect of Light Intensity During Growth of Sinapis alba on the Electron-Transport and the Noncyclic Photophosphorylation

1975

The photosynthetic rate of Sinapis alba can be modified over a wide range by the light intensity during growth. Our present results indicate that there exist regulatory mechanisms in the field of photosynthetic primary reactions. We compared the effect of different light intensities during growth of Sinapis plants on the concentrations of soluble proteins, manganese and lipophilic plastid quinones, the electron flow from water to ferricyanide and noncyclic phosphorylation. We further determined the light dependence curves for the uncoupled electron transport with ferricyanide as electron acceptor and methylammonium-chloride as an uncoupler of photophosphorylation.

Sex Differences in Mitochondrial Antioxidant Gene Expression

2020

Females live longer than males. This could be in part due to the higher levels of estrogens in females, which protect them against aging. Physiological concentrations of estrogens have antioxidant effects as they induce the expression of manganese superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase by stimulating estrogen receptors and the mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear factor kappa B pathways. However, estrogens can have undesirable effects such as they are feminizing to males, so other alternatives need to be searched. Phytoestrogens are good candidates as they can also bind to estrogens receptors, and in fact, they are able to mimic the antioxidant properties of estrogens. It i…

Slow Relaxation of the Magnetization in a {Co IIIMn III} Heterometallic Brick-Wall Network

2021

The use of the cyanide-bearing dicobalt(III) complex (PPh 4 ) 2 [Co 2 III (m-2,5-dpp)(CN) 8 ] as a metalloligand towards [Mn(salen)(H 2 O)]ClO 4 afforded the heterobimetallic two-dimensional compound of formula [{Mn III (salen)} 2 {(m-NC) 4 Co 2 III (m-2,5-dpp)(CN) 4 }] n (1) [PPh 4 + = teraphenylphosphonium cation, 2,5-dpp = 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine and H 2 salen = N,N’ -ethylenebis(salicylideneimine)] whose structure has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 exhibits a neutral brick-wall structure, where each [Co 2 III (m-2,5-dpp)(CN) 8 ] 2- unit adopts a tetrakis-monodentate bridging mode towards four {Mn III (salen)} + fragments through four of its eight cyan…

Atrane complexes chemistry as a tool for obtaining trimodal UVM-7-like porous silica

2018

[EN] The use of atrane complexes as hydrolytic precursors enables the homogeneous incorporation of manganese (25Si/Mn48) throughout the porous walls of the nanoparticles of a surfactant-templated bimodal mesoporous silica (UVM-7). The subsequent leaching of the manganese nanodomains allows adding controlled microporosity to the host silica framework. The resulting final silica material presents three pore systems structured at different length scales: interparticle textural-type macroporosity (ca. 43.2nm), ordered intraparticle mesoporosity (ca. 2.63nm; after template removal), and well-dispersed microporosity (< 2nm; as consequence of the lixiviation of the Mn-rich domains). The good dispe…

Electrocatalytic properties of manganese and cobalt polyporphine films toward oxygen reduction reaction

2018

International audience; Novel member of polymetalloporphines, namely manganese polymetalloporphine of type I (pMnP-I) obtained by ion exchange from magnesium polyporphine of type I (pMgP-I) is reported for the first time and compared to its cobalt analogue (pCoP-I). Both polymer films have been obtained via two-step procedure: demetaladon of the pMgP-I electrode film via its exposure to trifluoroacetic acid solution, resulting in formation of the metal-free polyporphine of type I (pH(2)P-I) followed by electrochemically induced incorporation of Co or Mn ions from the acetonitrile solution of cobalt and manganese perchlorates. A further oxidative transformation of pCoP-I, polymer films has l…

Poly[1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium [tri-μ-isothiocyanato-manganate(II)]]

2019

The title compound, {(C9H11N2)[Mn(NCS)3]} n , has been obtained as a side product of the salt metathesis reaction of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, (EMIm)Br, and K2[Mn(NCS)4]. The structure consists of discrete 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium cations and an anionic two-dimensional network of manganese(II)-based complex anions, interconnected by thiocyanate ions. Every Mn2+ ion is coordinated by three S atoms of three NCS− ions and three N atoms of further three NCS− ions in a meridional octahedral fashion.
