An exact method for the determination of differential leakage factors in electrical machines with non-symmetrical windings
2016
An exact and simple method for the determination of differential leakage factors in polyphase ac electrical machines with non-symmetrical windings is presented in this paper. The method relies on the properties of Gorges polygons that are used to transform an infinite series expressing the differential leakage factor into a finite sum in order to significantly simplify the calculations. Some examples are shown and discussed in order to practically demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Resistive communications based on neuristors
2017
Memristors are passive elements that allow us to store information using a single element per bit. However, this is not the only utility of the memristor. Considering the physical chemical structure of the element used, the memristor can function at the same time as memory and as a communication unit. This paper presents a new approach to the use of the memristor and develops the concept of resistive communication.
Integral-Imaging display from stereo-Kinect capture
2017
In this paper, we propose a new approach in order to improve the quality of microimages and display them onto an integral imaging monitor. Our main proposal is based on the stereo-hybrid 3D camera system. Originally, hybrid camera system has dissimilarity itself. We interpret our method in order to equalize the hybrid sensor's characteristics and 3D data modification strategy. We generate integral image by using synthetic back-projection mapping method. Finally, we project the integral image onto our proposed display system. We illustrate this procedure with some imaging experiments in order to prove an advantage of our approach.
Topological insulator nanoribbon Josephson junctions: Evidence for size effects in transport properties
2020
We have used Bi$_2$Se$_3$ nanoribbons, grown by catalyst-free Physical Vapor Deposition to fabricate high quality Josephson junctions with Al superconducting electrodes. In our devices we observe a pronounced reduction of the Josephson critical current density $J_c$ by reducing the width of the junction, which in our case corresponds to the width of the nanoribbon. Because the topological surface states extend over the entire circumference of the nanoribbon, the superconducting transport associated to them is carried by modes on both the top and bottom surfaces of the nanoribbon. We show that the $J_c$ reduction as a function of the nanoribbons width can be accounted for by assuming that on…
Structural, optical, and luminescence properties of ZnO:Ga optical scintillation ceramic
2018
This paper discusses the characteristics of ZnO and ZnO:Ga ceramics fabricated by uniaxial hot pressing. The short-wavelength transmission limit of zinc oxide ceramics is in the 370-nm region; the long-wavelength limit is determined by the free-charge-carrier concentration and lies in the interval from 5 to 9 μm. The total transmittance of such ceramics in the visible and near-IR regions is about 70% when the sample is 0.5 mm thick. The luminescence spectrum is represented by a broad emission band with maximum at 580 nm, having a defect nature. The introduction of 0.03–0.1 mass % gallium into the zinc oxide structure inhibits grain growth and increases the free-charge-carrier concentration …
Melting temperature prediction by thermoelastic instability: An ab initio modelling, for periclase (MgO)
2021
Abstract Melting temperature (TM) is a crucial physical property of solids and plays an important role for the characterization of materials, allowing us to understand their behavior at non-ambient conditions. The present investigation aims i) to provide a physically sound basis to the estimation of TM through a “critical temperature” (TC), which signals the onset of thermodynamic instability due to a change of the isothermal bulk modulus from positive to negative at a given PC-VC-TC point, such that (∂P/∂V)VC,TC = -(∂2F/∂V2) VC,TC = 0; ii) to discuss the case of periclase (MgO), for which accurate melting temperature observations as a function of pressure are available. Using first princip…
B-Scan image analysis for position and shape defect definition in plates
2016
Definition of size, shape and location of defects into a mechanical component is of extreme importance in the manufacturing industry in general and particularly in high-tech applications, and in applications that can become dangerous due to the structural failure of mechanical components. In this paper, a laser-UT system has been used to define position and shape of internal defects in aluminum plates. An infrared pulsed laser is used to generate ultrasonic waves in a point of the plate and a CW laser interferometer is used as receiver to acquire the out-of-plane displacements due to the ultrasonic waves in another point of the plate. The method consists of acquiring a B-Scan map on which s…
Antiferromagnetic NiO thickness dependent sign of the spin Hall magnetoresistance in γ-Fe 2 O 3 /NiO/Pt epitaxial stacks
2019
We study the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in epitaxial γ–Fe2O3/NiO(001)/Pt stacks, as a function of temperature and thickness of the antiferromagnetic insulating NiO layer. Upon increasing the thickness of NiO from 0 nm to 10 nm, we detect a sign change of the SMR in the temperature range between 10 K and 280 K. This temperature dependence of the SMR in our stacks is different compared to that of previously studied yttrium iron garnet/NiO/Pt, as we do not find any peak or sign change as a function of temperature. We explain our data by a combination of spin current reflection from both the NiO/Pt and γ-Fe2O3/NiO interfaces and the thickness-dependent exchange coupling mode between the …
Mathematical modelling of the feed rod shape in floating zone silicon crystal growth
2017
Abstract A three-dimensional (3D) transient multi-physical model of the feed rod melting in the floating zone (FZ) silicon single-crystal growth process is presented. Coupled temperature, electromagnetic (EM), and melt film simulations are performed for a 4 inch FZ system, and the time evolution of the open melting front is studied. The 3D model uses phase boundaries and parameters from a converged solution of a quasi-stationary axisymmetric (2D) model of the FZ system as initial conditions for the time dependent simulations. A parameter study with different feed rod rotation, crystal pull rates and widths of the inductor main slit is carried out to analyse their influence on the evolution …
Space Charges and Partial Discharges Simultaneous Measurements under DC Stress
2016
In the field of HVDC, the main causes of insulation aging are due to the space charge and PD phenomena. In particular, the purpose of the present work is to verify a possibility to measure simultaneously the space charge and the PDs under DC stress in order to evaluate the correlation between both phenomena. The space charge was measured by using a modified PEA cell and PDs were measured by using a novel wireless sensor system. The space charge profile and the PD pulses carried out simultaneously have been reported and discussed.
